Slap Emote

Guys... Don't feed the troll.

I always use the slap emote on bosses and such, i guess i am a violent person of society?
I could understand about violence and such but this is a video game, i am sure none were harmed while creating the slap emote

Related anectode. A GM answered one of my RMT report tickets by telling me to stop using the /slap and /throw emotes on "other players" (oh, andit looks like I'm not the only one to use these emotes on RMT, yay), because this could be considered harassing and have ME banned.

I'm pleasantly surprised no one used the 9 pages in this thread as an opportunity to denounce "the angry femininsts". Something positive on the forums /joy

Like- it's a joke emote. It isnt meant to be taken seriously- none of the emotes are (unless you're /pet ing a lala- that shit is offensive)....

It's funny you mention this, because a player I knew was called to the GM Jail because he was running around Mist doing that emote to a bunch of people. A bunch of players of the FC whom he was emoting to reported him.

I give this attempt a 3 slaps out of ten. Now, does anyone know where I can buy some elbow grease?

Wasnt slap not even in the game originally and it got added in because people wanted it? I can't remember

I tend to use a custom /slap emote in dungeons (/em slaps <t>'s butt) most of the time i use this macro I get a commendation at the end of the dungeon, don't know why
(^ female Miqo'te/Au Ra in skimpy outfits that like to jump around a lot beware)

I'm surprised i haven't been kicked from dungeons for harassment, but i do on odd occasions get an "oh behave" comment :-D

lets remove all emotes altogether. Infact, I find grass offensive, so lets remove all of gridania. Oasis are terrible creations that exist to incite joy in a barren land. Offensive. Get rid of it. Also, have you seen what people wear to the beach? Lewd. Remove La noscea now. I can see my breath in Coerthas, meaning it's extremely cold there, that means my female body is uncomfortable. Begone frozen lands!

Heh, I've had that happen to me several times through the whole game already, sometimes even when I have my female miqo'te dressed up in full armor, and without even jumping around so much.

Never thought much about it though, nor ever felt offended. It's pixels, lol. Now, if it was a real life moment on the other hand...

One of my custom macros, lol.

Cyberbullying and online harassment are really serious things that should be talked about. But it doesn't include an emote and removing it won't solve any problems. If you feel that someone is harassing you ingame, report them right away.

There's a lala (no surprises there) on Cerberus who spammed a custom emote, (he'd have loved the /slap emote lol haven't seen him around in awhile), which I found pretty funny, got him back!

But some people just really hate them, and see it as a personal attack :/ So I'm really careful about emoting with random people, only if they emote first. If OP is serious, there's more to this story, I find it hard to believe that multiple people got really offended just from the slap emote.

No, it's not. I've spoken to some of the abused player (one from my fc), and they all said that they were ashamed by what had happend to them. Does not sound funny to me.

I'm sorta reminded how in XI to some folks /poke was like the worst thing you could possibly do to them. Like, legit would send people into fits of rage. I think it was the JP player side mostly if I recall right; lots would take it as some grave insult. Just one of the worst things you could do and could so quickly turn you into some pariah, lol.

I don't recall /poke being an issue but checking (examining) people did "offend" some, mostly JP, players. Frankly, I didn't see it start to offend NA players until after it became semi-common knowledge that it offended some JP players.

If I recall correctly, the JP version would say "Name stares at you intently." and the NA version said "Name examines you." I think the whole taking offense to being checked/examined thing started in other, earlier MMOs with RPers and then caught on with non-RPers because... people are stupid.

Omg, I remember this sooo much. I would be no better tho, I would keep examining them til they teleported or left the area. Only time I really examine people is cuz they had a piece of gear that looked nice and wanted to know what it was.

Everytime I see that I get wrathful. I know it's just a game, but behind every Char is a real person, and i don't want to be a witness of this mindless Violence.
And from what i have seen, there are almost only male chars who are beating female chars.
You have changed the crouch emote for female miqo'te for a good reason (too sexual), so please, remove the slap emote because of unnecessary violence against female chars.

It is my most used emote so I hope it stays.

The /slap emote is not really meant for violence. This game comes from Japan, need I remind. If you've ever seen anime then you know it's relatively common for characters to teasingly/playfully slap a friend's back. That's why your character is smiling--it's meant to be mild, friendly rough-housing and not legitimate harassment.

Characters are not real so a in game (fantasy) slap did not actually harm anyone. What you are talking about is a "thought crime" where you imagine something. That isn't real. If someone /em ties you upside down by your big toe ... they really didn't do that.
