I am very sure there are many times more i210 pieces in game, than there are i180 crafted pieces.

They're trying to keep players from being able to control the entire market board by being able to have every single thing for every single DoH and DoL. It's a good thing, honestly. Most of the people that are complaining are the ones I just spoke of. I think it's nice to see gates like this with crafting and gathering. Normally you can just get to max level and then all there is to do is get the best equipment and then just sell crap you gather/craft on the market board... This actually gives people goals and things to work towards and this content will be relevant for months to come.
What's really happened here is that it's now a heck of a lot harder to be independent in the DoL/DoH world. And people are having a hard time dealing with that. I don't see SE making any changes to this. I'm sure it will be just like the weekly combat tomestone and the cap will be removed in 6 months. They might up the scrip reward turn ins a bit. Personally I'd like to see some daily crafting/gathering stuff that rewards both red and blue scrips. Would at least make the casual's lives easier.
All they have to do is reduce the amount of time you have to do your weekly favor gatherings. Waiting to craft your equipment is nothing new, since it already happened with moonstones and sealants.
And since everyone thinks that the ilvl 180 crafted battle equipment sucks anyway, there is no point crafting it, so that being locked behind a gate shouldnt matter at all.
^ this is true.. we are complaining about bad loot .. so fix the bad loot so we can complain about gated loot
So you seriously think requiring 8 crafters max melded, 3 gatherers max melded (30 million for the melds), 2 million spent on crafting red scrips, 10 hours spent gathering red scrips, 11 hours spent on fully RNG controlled favors, time spent on getting max purity sands, countless time spent desynthing items for deminateria OR 2 million in red scrips + 200 million in buying other mats all just so you can ATTEMPT to craft one or two 2 stars (and no more until next week) is good?
This content won't last for months because everyone will have died of boredom and possibly from overworking too. Also, none of these items will ever sell because the lowest price you could ever justify all that nonsense for is 100 million Gil up to 300 million.
Finally, this limits how much you can craft therefore limiting your fun. You want to craft really cool, difficult, engaging recipes? Well too bad, do your 20+ hours of work and have fun crafting 2 recipes a week because you'll just love gathering 99% of the time and crafting for 1%.
If you count the mats you can craft 11 items a week :D that should be enough excitement for the week.
Also youre not required to gear everthing. Gear one or two crafters and specialize in that sort of equipment for your sales. As of now there os not even a point in gearing Alchemist or Culinarian
In 1.0, you are required to turn in a 2 meld item. Now, in 1.0, on a melding fail, you lose all materia + the base item and 2nd meld % chance was around 20%......just saying...
Youre far from specialized or not? Later ppl might rather have some equipped crafter craft their 2 stars than risking to NQ it. There are also gatherers with 60 crafts but not actively crafting anymore who still want in on some 2 star sales later
Would you even want to attempt to craft it in the first place?
I assume you factor in a botched craft when weighing up crafting something for someone or is that just me?
I sure as hell wouldn't want to craft something for someone that I couldn't replace with relative ease if I failed to HQ for whatever reason.
You have absolutely no idea how forefront crafters work, do you?

In case you don't know, those happen to be GSM, CRP, and BSM crafts, and I can confidently say I can HQ any other 2 star. Yet, no one is going to ask me to craft stuff. You know why? Because no one has mats.
And before you comment on the prices, you're free to ignore them because I have no intention of actually selling them. I simply can't use them yet.
That's what I meant by a botch, NQ is useless IMO with very few exceptions.
The amount of times I've gotten NQ items from quest rewards and they have been worse than my lower ilvl HQ gear pretty much engrained the fact that if you do not HQ you wasted the mats like you say.
Going by the prices right now mats cost at max 20 million, its still alot but no way 300 mil, ppl overreacting again
And i never said it will happen now, but later. Of course nobody is going to ask you, because right now your chances are basically the same as everyone.
This changes when you equipped yourself with the 2 star stuff and your client aint.
And nice dedication there to farm all those favors
Which is part of the whole problem people have been trying to express with this system. As it stands, this grind is financially daunting for anyone just starting out, not as well equipped, or those who never really crafted for profit. Considering the system was touted as an option for more casual-minded crafters to gear up and participate without the high set up costs...it's doing a poor job of achieving that.
Never did i disagree on that, i was just making a point to DarthBuzzer that hes not as limited as he makes it out to be.
There will always be friends, friend of friends, FC Members who needs something crafted because they only have a leatherdealer @60 and want the main hand or whatever
Your opinion is rather uninformed.
With crafting scrips locked at 450 a week and a chest piece for example costing 300 scrips to make. Therefore you can make 1.5 chest pieces per week.
I have no idea where this magical number of "11" came from, but it seems like you just made it up. ( If we actually were limited to getting mats for 11 crafts per week, there would actually be far far less fuss about it!)
A lot of battle class only players rely on crafters for supplying the mats etc for their gears (i.e. big demand), but your there suck being able to make 1 or 2 items a week max and if you want to gear you crafters, then you cant spare a single item for months and months.
Your counting is wrong...

And who in the right might wants that?
I think we can all agree that the combat equipment sucks, no denying here.
I'm talking about the actual USEFUL chest pieces:

You mean the AF2 glamours? Because without tier V materias those are far from useful.
it's not bad at all for the blue scripts. there is a cheap turn in for almost every class. the only one i didn't find a cheap one for was arm. my suggestion as an omni is to grind the nuggets on arm, bsm, and make whetstones with gsm. then use crp and do the turn in for mica grinding wheel for your scripts. this allows you to use the materials you already grinded on so already have created for the turn ins.
bsm/ arm grind on hardsilver nugget once you can make them. make as many as possible while getting 18k+ exp
crp grind on dark chestnut lumber. same as above.
gsm grind on mica whetstones. same as above.
now you have all the materials made already to create the cloud mica grinding wheel. easy to create at level 56 and from 56-60 you make enough exp to cap crp, scripts to get the books for all classes, and scripts to buy all adept gear. granted ths is not the only way to do it, but it allowed me to work on leveling multiple crafts and get all books and gear for very little cost.
the red script gate is where the major issue comes in for crafting and gathering.
Right now coke is being sold for 800k ea on moogle, thats 4m a mat, someone on the crafting subforum said that he bought the astral birch ingredient for 2,5m. These are actual prices that ppl would also pay, not some inflated pseudo prices.
And scarebearz wasnt the general opinion that the crafted battle pieces suck and have no use in endgame, while the crafter equipment will be needed when 3 stars come?
The i180 pieces would be fine as a temp (temp being the key factor when it comes to value) upgrade for many, the problem is by the time we cant actually make these for affordable prices, they will be useless as everyone will be in i200+ gears.
Looking at the state of crafting in 3.x, do you really think anyone gives a darn about 3* crafts? I suspect when 3* is out we'll have a new version of "artisan" gear or something silly, looks like we'll also have silly restrictions on mats too.
So if anyone is spending millions and millions just to get "ready" for 3*, I think they have gone mad xD
I can link like 5 ppl saying its worse than upgraded law gear, i havent done any comparioson since i wasnt planning to craft any of it until i had my own crafter gear.
Anyway what would you do with your 2300 millions if not trying to get a headstart. A fraction of your money is already enough to buy a new ishgard plot.
You might aswell quit crafting if you dont think it will get better again. I for one are still hoping
With how rare current mats are, I doubt I have enough gil to gear all of my crafts.
I only spend gil on crafting when I think there is a decent chance I'll make it back, investing on speculation for 3* with how things are at the moment imo is not wise at all ^^
I'd quite like a i180 caster robe for my main (BLM), but frankly it's not worth anywhere near it's cost, as a temp upgrade that I'd replace in a few weeks.
I took one look at the Red Scrips and I was like "NOPE".
