Saying shut up to someone, isn't the right way to go. I apologize for my lack of explanation, I was in kinda in wtf mode. I know housing will be put in...... I know extra space is nice.......... But again, they are just giving stuff to us. Like other people have said in this thread, would be nice to work for it. They are giving us 200 extra spaces, 50 for each npc, 100 for us. They already gave us a free npc, space, and now more space. Silvertear sorry I got you so angry, just because I have my own opinions and you have yours. I don't tell you to shut up.
Correction, we DO need an extra 100 item slots. In fact, we need 200 extra item slots instead.
I feel it is a little backwards tho, as retainers should be able to hold more imo.
My character's inventory and my retainers' inventory, as well as their bazaars, are almost always maxed out because I hold onto and make a lot of things for crafting, as well as store things that my linkshell members can also use. Having the extra space will be a GODSEND for me.
Though, I do agree that having a housing option to store everything would be nice. It'd sure beat having to travel back and forth between two different market wards where you have your retainers set up. That, and perhaps you could craft your own storage space for extra room; for example, carpenter could make a dresser or chest, armorer could make a safe, etc.
Also with housing should be the option to access your retainers' inventories no matter which city they are currently selling in.
i read afew pages and saw ppl want mog houses and having more space makes it easier to change on the fly... i dont want a mog house. I WANT A GUILD HOUSE. most ppl in a ls alrdy have picked spots in the towns to chill to craft, talk bs, and to gather for events and party. ppl also wanted moogles added back if i remember right. make the guild house have a moogle to "run" the palce, add the task board like in the advent guild to the guild house so ppl can check it since there is no /lsmes in this game. give a ls chest( this is so ppl can store old gear they no longer need and are putting it there for other ls member to take and use). also make it so you must be part of that linkshell to enter. with the chocos being added this coming patch id like to restate i still feel we should be given a quest or something that allows use the ability to add bags to the side of the chocos to hold items. I currently play archer, mrd, lnc, thm and the few crafting jobs so having the extra would surely be great... also why hasnt anything been done about the retainers having a (rank or lvl). when we 1st got the 2 retainers htye start at 1. will thye ever add anything t othis or just leave us pondering
lol i see it now Mythril Ingots 500k, Sheepskin, diamonds and all other crap. yea... we dont need a gobbie bag quest right now. its kinda sad to see people complaining about a game that they didnt spend a dime since launch. maybe they should start billing us so the complaints matter. really guys its 100+ slots for nothing in return just to enjoy the game
no I WANT A CHALLENGE!! 100 extra inventory slots what! we don't need that, we need 50 less. /sarcasm
+200 slots for materia and same gears with different materia. I'm on it.
We dont need 100 add.slots actually
Just kill all +1,+2 and +3 items, make really working sorting and yes i pray for materia's bag
You can't apply real-world common to a world that isn't compliant with our own. Sure, it's silly that can carry a few dozen polearms in your pack. But it's also that we don't have wagons, houses, wheeled chests, and the like to handle that sort of thing. If the world allowed for such amenities, then it would be more plausible. When you don't have a home to store your stuff, you have to make like a snail and take your home with you. :)
While I don't think we need 200 more slots, I realize that some people are pretty fail when it comes to inventory management. It should at the very least hold people over until we have housing.
The armory system (whatever may be left of it) is more conducive to having all your stuff on you. Any non-job related items you can keep on your retainers, which work essentially the same as a static storage space, except they're not static.
While I am not SE and I don't know know for sure that this is correct... I think it's more along the lines of:
This game has been out for a year.
It is still being worked on and isn't complete.
SE messed up and they know they messed up.
Due to that they have lost players because of these issues.
Some are staying because they believe in SE, or they want this game to succeed, or maybe because they want to log in once a month so they can keep posting here. Whatever the reason, I think SE knows they can't give us housing at this time because they need to fix the game. They know people need space, and they know they need to keep the players they DO have happy so they don't leave as well. I look at this as more of a 'thanks for sticking with us, we can't give you what you want but for now this will help until we can start looking into x,y, and z'.
As I said, regardless of the reason, I'll not put down SE for trying to fix issues.
Even if it's not in the way some would like to see.
If you need more than 300 slots, you're a hoarder. You can always aquire stuff as needed rather than keeping everything youve ever had.
I think a good solution would be to split inventory, 50 slots designated to gear and maybe 100 for items.
I saw somewhere that they are going to add the ability to search your retainer for items! If only they do the same thing for your inventory, that would be awesome.
And why is this thread still here? Really? You don't want space? Wth...
If all you want is housing with more space, you should have put a more proper title to your topic. :P
If your carryign that much gear you are actually playing the game the way it was meant to be played. The game was always advertised as "Have to many of x in party? Quickly swap to class X or Y or Z" or "Did you the person playing X have to leave? Then quickly swap to replace his class".
The game was designed with the idea of quickly swapping to a new class to fill a role that was missing. Carrying items on you that you need is what makes the system work. have the extra 100 inventory makes the system work more like it should have at start. Not an inventory failure, its how the game was designed. The problem is SE had a feature/content failure at launch and was forced to extend beta indefinitely.
Just because you CAN do something doesn't mean you should nor does it mean that was the intention! If people are too stupid to manage their inventory half assed and logically it's their own fault xD Not to mention there's barely any class specific armor out, which is another reason why people shouldn't be full. Can easily carry around 10+ classes worth of stuff in 50 inventory or less if you "need" too by using your head and managing your inventory... not even going to get into the rpg side of how managing inventory is part of the genre *facepalm*
To skip this essay, please skip down to the very last paragraph.

I main Lancer and Conjurer: That's already 1 weapon and 6 armour pieces for two classes. 14. Then I decide to join rank 25 raid with classes closer to that rank. Gladiator and Thaumaturge - 7 pieces for each class + a shield for each. 16 + 14 = 30. This is because they're at DIFFERENT RANKS, not to mention my Conjurer also has class and rank specific gear. However, my Conjurer and Thaumaturge share shoes, and my THM and GLA share belts. 30 - 2 = 28.
Then a low ranked friend wants me to help out, but with a low-ranking class. That's ok; I go to my archer. An additional 7 pieces of armour for a low-ranking gear, not to mention arrows. 8 + 28 = 36. Sometimes, they require a Pugilist. 7 more pieces of gear. Notice how none of my classes are exactly the same, requiring different gears? So 7 + 36 = 43.
Then you get crafting gear. I like to actually FIX my gear on the run, not to mention craft when I have the time. I would prefer not going back to Ul'dah to fetch stuff out of my retainers every time I do. I have one set for rank 25, one set for rank 15. That's just the armour, so 6 * 2 = 12 + 43 = 56. Then I major in 5 crafting classes, so 5 + 56 = 61. Gathering classes: one set + 2 tools. 8 + 61 = 69. A set and a half of jewellery; 4 rings, two earring and a choker. 7 + 69 = 76.
And that's with me not even having Marauder, Armourer, Culinarian and Mining classes mixed in. If that was the case, another 10 inventory slots need to be taken. I also did not take into account throwing weapons; only those that are essential e.g. Shield and arrows. I also have not taken into account underwear as well. 76 + 2 = 78.
Now to non-gear related items. I'm a crafter, with nothing over rank 25, so I carry 4 types of dark matter. 4 + 78 = 82. As a crafter, my main is weaver, so I have plenty of canvas and cotton with me to make express clothes for people to wear. Cotton bolls + undyed cotton cloth + undyed canvas cloth. 3 more slots + 82 = 85.
For the current event, I have all three fireworks. 85 + 3 = 88. I have 3 foods; one for crafting, one for melee fighting, one for magical powering. 88 + 3 = 91.
Now, that leaves me 9 spaces left for filling with loot etc. Considering how much stuff falls from the monsters, I say that only gives me 5 minutes before I start having a full inventory. 100 inventory slots? Not enough.
Can you find anything unreasonable in my logic for this set up? No.
However, you are entirely correct, Dreamer. This is my choice. No one has to play with me; if they want to play one set of armour for everything, fine. Canvas tunic, canvas coif, leather tool belt, cotton half-gloves, leather shoes, cotton tights. That's 6 armour pieces. Then the person only does one job. 7 pieces. Wow. Question is; who's setup will be like that?
It may be inventory failure in your eyes, and sometimes, I wish I didn't carry so much stuff. But when something breaks, or party members are taking a half-hour break, or we decide to switch to a lower-ranked SP mob, this is when it comes in handy. Not to mention I can also lend out equipment to those who need it fast; for example, someone only carried around one main hand, but needed it fixed. I traded my bow over, he equipped it, allowing me to fix it with my tools, then he gave it back to me.
It's my choice, and that's the point. I have every right to it; I only keep the rarer loots or those that sell for a lot of money. Else, they get discarded.
Also; my argument isn't against half-arsing inventory management. It's against those who suddenly believe that a adjustment to low and high quality loot means a substantial difference and net loss in inventory items, when our highest priority items, gear, does not get affected by this change. At the most, a normal player will regain 30 spaces of inventory, assuming that they carry around 40 pieces of gear, and in the 60 pieces of loot, they have 30 items each of no quality and +1. That's not very substantial. At all.
Just because we kill of high quality goods, does not mean that suddenly, gear can stack. Learn to think, people, before you type.
Dreamer, I'm not targeting you, but the fact that you team me as an inventory failure before you understood the context of my statement makes me very disappointed in how you approach your arguments. Yes, I carry a lot of gear, but to make that into an inventory failure? It's much like elitists who require only THIS and THAT. I'm very disappointed, Dreamer, especially since I usually respect your posts. Very upset.
Sometimes, the truth is very funny. =P
....Barely any class-specific armour? I contest that badly. Rank 25 dungeon - very class specific items there. Rank 45 dungeon - even more so. NMs - also specific class items. Heck, every time I change from my conjurer to another class, I get stripped naked by the game because it's class-specific. The higher-up you get, the more class-specific it gets.
And what if you have vastly different ranked classes? Surely, that would give SOME measure of more gear to use. Perhaps you don't, but with my classes ranging from 50 to 9, I definitely have a large range of gear to fit in.
And RPG managing inventory....really, what RPGs have you been playing that make you limit inventory? I haven't seen an FF game where you're forced to limit your inventory, and they're RPGs alright. Kingdom Hearts, yet again a RPG, but no inventory limitations. Hmmm...part of the genre you say. Give me a game that limits inventory, and I'll revise this statement. :D
~~~~~~~~~~~~
TL;DR Having lots of gear is by no means the best inventory choice there is. However, just because high and low quality items are being simplified, does not mean that "SOOOOOOO" much space is going to be freed up as long as gear still takes up around half your inventory. I also highly doubt that people take along with them no quality, +1, +2, +3 loot and regeants around with them in the first place, but that's besides the point.
Additional inventory slots for both PCs and retainers have been added.
Please note that this is a temporary measure that will remain in place only until the UI is fully overhauled..... My word here is done!!!
thank you square enix for giving us hermione grangers beaded bag from the second to last Harry potter movie rofl.
love that bag
So its not permanent...Funny that people actually thought they would have a million inventory spaces by the first expansion, likely the inventory will disappear once the housing comes into play
I just find it funny that people assume what the devs had in mind ^.^
Maybe failure is a too strong a word, but I do approach my classes in a completely different way. While I don't use one set of gear for everything as you mentioned above, I definitely do not have separate sets for them all. With the way stats currently are, I've seen no need to have specific gear for each class, so I normally have one set of gear for DoW, one set for DoM, one set for DoH, and one set for DoL. However, given the way the equipment is grouped, it's completely feasible to use simply two sets of gear for ALL of your classes, which in turn is simply 12 pieces of armor and your weapons.
If you are using that many items for your daily routine, why not simply segment it and take what you need for a bunch of leves, and toss the rest to your retainer? Before I remade this character and was in the process of ranking all classes, my preferred method was to grab equipment for a subset of classes, do it, then switch out once done. I know I can't expect everyone to think this is the preferred solution, but if you're running out of inventory room, isn't the extra effort worth it?
Perhaps it's worth it, but I don't find it particularly pleasing to rush over to my retainers. It's ok; I'm fine with how my system works. That way, I filter off random loot that I don't need, and only keep the bare minimums. I've grown used to switching fast on the go; my macros are useful for that, at least.
I use that many items because my rank range is massive, not to mention it's also personal preference to have optimal ranked and class armour for each class. By no means does that make me excellent; it just means I'm more diverse in terms of my gear. I really only have different armour sets for my DoW and DoM classes, but in essence, DoM and DoH classes only have 3 sets given to them. So the majority of my armour pieces are from the fighting ones.
There are many different playing styles; inventory sorting will probably fall under different styles as well. It's just who benefits from what; I find my style excellent on the run, and while I may not have the best sortments for loot etc, it certainly is useful for the amount of changing and gear I have. Perhaps one day, when my classes start getting into range of one another, I'll discard some gear, but for now, it works perfectly for me.
I have no qualms for other styles. As you said, I can segment it and take only what I need, but I'm kind of a hoarder, not to mention I do kind of need all my gear since I'm very anti-damaged gear. I may try to adopt your style into mine, a mix of the two; since I'm ranking up my DoW and DoM classes, I may as well put my higher set of DoH armour and my DoL gear into the retainers. Maybe I'll get some more space. ^.^
Either way, all's fine. Perhaps I lashed out a bit too much against you, Dreamer; most of my rage is directed at those who don't really think through, and believe that the simplification of the qualities will decrease the inventory by a lot.
Well, its fine, its all temp guys, no need to fight anymore. :D
for those who level alot of jobs, rotate around them, and like to keep the proper 'favored' gear on i can see why all the slot usage.
doesnt sound like a quote that someone whos experienced crafting would say... you sure you didnt let someone else level your craft for you?
its fine guys... Its all temporary! :D
