sorry it just doesn't make sence. i'd sooner assume that it's some sort of crossbow attachment. But we won't really know until we get to play with it.
I'd also like to point out that the WHM and BLM are not holding their weapons while they cast. Could that just be artistic liscence or are we going back to the good old days of not having to be engaged to cast?
The picture is a bit out of proportion and confusing but I think it was designed to be like that to confuse us :(
They said they where adding the ability to cast while in passive mode so should be good :)
The archer's weapon is a transformer.
The harp attachment can be pulled down so it faces the archer.
Aahaha.
I hate this job system ><
Lol just because the three musketeers didnt use muskets in the movies doesnt mean they arent trained to use muskets. The three musketeers were never really deployed to the front lines of battles in the war against the spaniards now were they?
That's just it. It is a fantasy game.
If you look, a part of the "harp" extends down near where the arrows are nocked. Maybe, just maybe, when arrows are fired it vibrates that deal, which in turn vibrates the strings to produce notes. Maybe there's some mechanism for changing the tune of the notes as well to produce different effects.
Firing arrows rapidly (Which characters seem capable of: quick nock) might be able to produce music, buffing nearby players and perhaps debuffing enemies via the music, or when the shots land.
...Far fetched? Yes. Doesn't make it any less possible.

Also something I noticed, I think someone else briefly mentioned it, the Bow/Harp appears to be able to fold. If you look at the black bit that the harp is attached to, you'll see a hinge of sorts (can't think of the right word for what I'm thinking of). It does appear to be able to fold down.
IMO conj should have been rdm based on the mix of whm and blm spells and thm should have been oracle, from ff tactics, based on the debuff and mp type spells. The job for mrd should be berserker not war.
Makes a lot more sense than my crazy idea.
Would probably be a simple animation to have the character just fold the bow down when they initiate a music buff or debuff, and then it just snaps back out when the casting is done.
Maybe the "harps" will be able to be equipped in the offhand or something, and it will just modify your existing bow so that it has a harp attached to it. Or maybe there would be an entirely new type of bow all together which is required to play music on a Bard.
At least it's not a gunharp.
I hope this means I won't have a retarded whm headpiece in this game.
The bow seems more of a recurve or compound bow. If it was a bard, why the hell would he attach a harp to a bow? It would defeat the purpose of both the bow and the instrument.
To be able to quickly swap between playing the harp and attacking with the bow? Otherwise he'd have to put his bow away, pull out the harp, play the music, put the harp away, and pull out the bow.
Or he could just snap the harp down, play it, and snap it back up.
I think it's safe to assume Archer will be Bard. After all, there was a Dev post stating that Bard was in fact a confirmed job. I don't really see any other class that could host Bard as a job.
I'm seriously loving these designs. I do hope we get more details soon, especially in regards to that strange bow.
i like everything i see except the bow harp, it srly looks silly.
