I feel like the more desperate you grow for an answer the less likely you'll get one. I don't know, but they almost never answer threads that start demanding a simple response. They just answer what they're comfortable with when they want to.
Well, if you've got enough support on a Live Letter Q&A, then you'll get a response for sure.
Continuing this thread will probably give the issue presence. But begging for a Dev response (even if it should be a simple one) won't get us anywhere.
I really hope they add back the flames myself.
I hope it get's added the aura by itself is just horrible.
i have been tweeting this "@FF_XIV_EN @mattalos will we, Dark Knights, get the Black Flame-like Aura we saw on the Heavensward skill trailer?" once a day.
Nocx7 props for taking this issue to heart and not letting it go away. I have a suspicion that the dark flames may have been a grit aura and the red squigglies the darkside aura. And maybe they took dark flames out since it was too much stuff floating on the chars. I agree dark flames > red squigglies for darkside would be cooler.
Well I'm not going to let this thread die.They'll eventually notice it and hopefully say something.One of my main reasons I ain't letting this go,is the 2 accepted bug reports on this.And for those saying they just might be forgotten,I'll say this,there was a bug report not too far removed from when the 2 reports on the black flames were accepted that was about the aura not vanishing with the game graphic settings.
That report got swiftly moved to the "working as intended" section of the bug forums while the missing black flames reports still remained on the "accepted bugs" section of the bug forums.Confirming that the flames are missing is something anyone can do quick since it's pretty obvious,so that's why I still think this is a bug that will get fixed.
On the level 50 drk quest the Npc version of yourself that you battle has what should have been the dark side aura. It's one of the coolest effects in the game and it's extremely disappointing that they went with the red line nonsense instead of the black fire effect on story mission.

Dude on the left is how the aura should look IMO. Actually looks like darkness and no bs about it being annoying and getting in people's way as it stays tight to the PC model.
That's the thing,if they fix this and add the black flames and get rid/reduce the size of the red aura then it's a win/win.We dark knights get what we want and other players won't be annoyed by the red aura anymore.They could make the aura finally obey the graphic settings,add the black flames and that would also help those who hate to look at it.

Remove the effect (i hate it on my dark)
Make blood weapon usable regardless of grit. Change the MP regen to only worth without grit, and while in grit give 10% life steal (basically, a weaker blood bath but, one that is up much more often)
Tie the graphic to blood weapon.
So can anyone confirm if the aura has been resolved. I see nothing in the patch notes. I feel like its been brushed under a rug.
I'm betting on 3.1 being when they'll most likely fix it along with all the other changes they'll make for the dark knight.Still,that it has gone this long and they won't say a word even if to say they won't fix it is very disappointing.

I suspect it got delayed as a bug fix because they're changing the red aura as well, due to feedback about it being intrusive.
A visual change that's not just adding back the flames (which was probably missing due to a bug) would obviously take longer than simply fixing a bug.
And the latter wouldn't happen if they wanted to make adjustments to the whole thing anyway.
Anyone else have Darkside off anytime they dont really need it? I can't stand the shitty red aura everywhere i go.
That's the funny thing about the aura.Since it's missing the black flames,you only really notice it outside of combat but as soon as you get in a fight,the faint red lines get blocked by all the other effects of the other classes and you can't tell if it's active or not.
If they give us the black flames back we would be able to easily notice if it's active even during the most chaotic of fights.
We might have to start a petition so they change the aura to one of the many great looking darkness auras in the game.There is no excuse since they wouldn't even have to design a new aura to solve this.

Now that you mention the egi it reminds me how summoners have tried for so long to get SE to change how the egi look yet it seems that will never happen.
My hope is that they'll change how the darkside aura looks due to all the ppl complaining how it looks and there being other auras in game that could could just copy paste on us.

I'm sure they could've made it look it. They probably just couldn't afford the development time to do the physics.
They should still be able to work on it, but it's probably scrapped.
Warriors with Wrath, even when mounted and moving, looks completely fine.
I'm sure they can make the black flames look fine too. Of all reasons for why it was removed... This one just doesn't make any sense at all.
if they cant give us the black flames then why not give us the hazy blackish purple flames that the ascians have when they use there spells...
The only reason I can think of why the effect is the way it is now is that something happened during testing, and they had to downgrade it to something that didn't crash/slow down certain versions of the game (PS3 perhaps?).

Also keep in mind, that post is simply an explanation as to why the black flame aspect of the effect was removed for launch and why that specific effect would not be brought back.
The Darkside fx being looked at and possibly reworked is still on the table. Iirc the last that was said about it being changed was that it would be brought up with the VFX lead.
Well, i can live with no black flames, but the giant red aura is a massive eye sore. I can't stand having it on any time im not in battle
i personally rather like the red aura... i just wish it was more intense and visable... and more tight to the character and not a giant cloud of doom and gloom hanging around me...
