Au Ra Character Creation Feedback

Was thinking -- to make the horns a separate choice, since they're entirely different geometry, they'd probably have to be rigged the same way as hairstyles. I have no idea how much of a pain in the ass that'd be in game engine, but there's no way it wouldn't require at least some very deliberate work from an art team that's already taxed due to production ramp-up before an expansion.

Scale color options, though? Maybe not so hard to do. I still really hope they consider that. Au Ra look so cool already, that's the perfect way to make them even cooler.

Male legs are to big, muscular. Waist is to skinny, thin. Makes your Au Ra look over weight when in armor.
Horns and face features need to be separated.
They might separate after they drop PS3 support, but im not holding my breath.
Was excited for Au Ra, but now after trying the creation, il just be sticking with my elveen.

Like many others I agree: if possible please do separate horns from faces. Certain hairstyles just don't work well with the different faces purely because they clip into the horns that particular face is stuck with.

Also WHY is the 3rd hairstyle for females stuck with two extra horns on the top of her head? That hairstyle would be my favorite if those weren't there :(

Love the Au Ra, but PLEASE separate the horns and face! Please!!! Maybe the females could be a little bigger, maybe a muscle tone option for them. They don't make me think fierce dragon race at all but the males do. Females are a bit cutesy

Agreed. Main horns, and those extra horns should have just been put in their own category, away from Faces and Hairstyles. It's not something Jandelaine should just be able to remove and add at will.

Things that really disappoint me is just the male body. It just copy pasta from Elezen body and it doesn't have muscle slider too :(

I feel like the main reason the horns are matched with specific faces is because of how difficult it was for them to make them work with headpieces. They have mentioned it several times when they talked about them in the past. Luckily for me the face I like also has horns I also like.

This seems to be one of the biggest issues with the race so far so hopefully they can do something about it.

Seems like you can't make a male that looks like anything other than a 17 year old. Can't even put facial hair on these guys. Really not liking being stuck with that feminine waist either.

While I agree about separating the horns and hair as well as some color options for scales those are the only things I didn't like. I LOVE the male Au Ra. Don't change them at all please.

Color choice for scales and tails is needed. As well as horns their own separate choice.

I agree. Giving females the options to be a bit taller and with a muscle slider would help them feel less "cutesy". Also please let us choose horns separately from the face and allow us to change the color of the scales. The horn color clashes with so many armors its not even funny, We should be able to choose the color we want.

I don't understand why so many people think horn colour clashes? They're white or black! That's not going to clash with anything... and the lore they came up with makes a big deal of the horn colour.

Here the female has more blue-ish scales than black, and Raen males have brownish scales vs the pure white of females. So a degree of color is genetically possible among them. I think a small pallette should be allowed, with very dark colours for Xaela and very light colours for the Raen.

Also, what about hybrids? Let's take a look at what they did with Miqo'te. The lore says that the leonine tail is characteristic of the Seekers, while the "fluffy" tail is more commonly seen in the Keepers. Yet, Seekers and Keepers were both given the option to use leonine or fluffy tail. This was probably intended to allow us to create hybrids between the two clans. Allowing some -even slight- coloration for the scales (and consequentially the tail), could allow more in-depth customization and the possibility to make Au ra hybrids.

Pretty sure that's the lighting. And "lustrous black" and "brilliant white" doesn't give much room for choice, imo. The way people are going on about wanting to "match" their horns with glamours is weird.

My biggest disappointment is that the Xaela female looked as if she had fins instead of horns when I first saw the pics. Oh well.

I disagree. I enjoy the fact that they ALL have completely unique and brusque voices. It's a lovely transition from the "numb tongue", "Challenged", and "Cackling Grandma" voices we have for the old races. Their voices even match up with their emotes perfectly too!

You ever heard a 6 foot 3 "Big man on campus" voice on a Lalafell before? It's absolute TERROR.

All in all... WE WANT horn options to be separate from the faces. We want horn sliders too! First and foremost!

Scale color options might be out of the park due to there needing to be a separation between Raen and Xaela.

I think the females are just to short, no other race has such a huge height difference between the men and women.

I don't see why the height difference is that big an issue, but then just between me and my sister there's a bit of a difference. Not as much as the Auri but enough to not see it as bad. Plus it gives them another difference from the other races.

The only downside for myself would be the (like just about 50% of the thread) the horns being tied to the faces, and it isn't that big a deal to me. Probably because I like face 4 for females anyways.

There is no pallet for the scales because it would most likely be lore breaking.
Its a mixed race of all the current races + other stuff(According to the lore) and its shows from their features. I'm not gonna list them all but its mostly obvious which gender gets what traits from each race The most obvious ones being female inheriting lala genes and males inheriting elezen with both inheriting roe skin colors. The scale colors are most likely key traits given to each gender of each clan. Xaela having more dominant genes from the Dusk mother and Raen the Dawn father.

Sure they are. You can customize the eyes more. Even 1 item is more customizable last I checked ;P

My overall impression is about the same as most other people have said. Took me a while to create both a male and female character I liked (well enough). I'll probably switch 2 of my alts to the new race because most of my alts still have 2 fantasia but as for any of my 3 'main' characters... I haven't decided yet.

SE would be better served if horns were their own selection. I also find that facial scales were a bit overdone, I would have preferred more of these as options in the scales section of creation . I dunno me personally I just don't like a bunch of shit covering my character's face. I think overall this race could be very aesthetically pleasing but the biggest complaint I have so far is they just seem too... busy.

Hairstyles are very good though and I have to wonder where this artistic aptitude was when creating the other hairstyles for all the other races. I also think general female facial structure makes them gorgeous but then there's all the extra crap.

The limbal rings are very nice for this race!!

Its the eye shape for the females I just cant like....nope, they are all bad :(

Played around with the character creation for a long time but eye shape is just not appealing enough, will definately make an alt character as Au Ra but not change out my main to one.

More hairstyles would have been nice and a LONG (I mean long!!) hairstyle should have been added imo.

Males are great , they have potential with the right tweaking, but I never play a male so didnt spend much time on them.

Females are "ok" (just no "wow" factor to them) appearance wise and males look vicious!
Overall I think they did a good job though! :)

I want horns to not be tied to faces please, that is my BIGGEST peeve with the Au Ra race and i've been excited about this since the day they were announced Q_Q;;;

I can understand scales being tied to faces, but please please pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeease let us choose horns like we do Elzen or Lalafell ears.

Maybe it's just me, but the Au Ra feels like it has a more "blank" or vacant expression compared to the existing races... there's just something I can't put my finger on.
I'm also disappointed that the faces and horns are in the same selection set. There are horns that I don't want that are tied to faces that I do and there's nothing I can do about that. It's also weird that we can't color the scales.

I think overall, despite me wanting a new race for new emotes, I might just stick with my elezen...

Seems I'm not the only one who decided to turn their elezen in an Au Ra after image. I have the same issue as you. I love the first face, but I hate the horns on it. And I ended with the exact same face you have. I'll post my own elezen/au ra comparison once I'm home.

To be fair, its not 'more customisable' if they take away muscle slider and give you three faces which are all the same but with buffier lips.

I really like the pale skin colors that Xaela have access to, but the black scales are horrid in my opinion >.<

The tiny waists and large thighs/outer thighs/hips are going to make me keep thinking the character is female when I party with one (despite knowing the femmes are tiny). >_> Like the Poetics gear option - it really really looks like a dress, on the males...

Overall I like them and most likely will fantasia to the one I made in the benchmark.
My one main complaint, like many others, is the horn type being attached to face selection.
I can kind of get lumping stuff together for technical reasons but eh, I want different horns for the face I like. If not that at least a horn scale option. The horns that point more downwards have some clipping issues with gear and I wish I could scale down the horns to minimize or negate that.

I think the Au Ra are quite lovely...i do feel like a few others the horns should not be tied to the face you choose. I also like most of the hair but the horns on some of them doesn't do anything for me.

I think they got most of it correct i am not sure on the height yet..if i was to choose the tallest (female) would she still be quite small next to my Miqote.

Great selection on hair and eye skin colours but please change the Horns tied to a certain face...i like the one i made but would be nice to try the other shapes.

I can't seem to see it mentioned so... my complaint, not that I'm going to turn myself into some freak from another country entirely, is that the gator tail doesn't properly connect to the body (on women at least). It starts like all the other tails at this small point then curves out over the butt into a gator tail. That so looks like it'd snap right off after a jump from a tall height. Aside from that... it looks like a cop-out dragon race ala Bethesda.

As I've stated before. I am extremely disappointing with the horns being part of face customization rather than be separate! Please fix!!

People having complaints with character creation in the benchmark? It not beta software open for feedback what you see is most certainly what you going to get in heavensward. You should re-title "my opinion of Au Ra"

What bothers me is that the scales are not black on the female Au-Ra they are purplish blue. Yes they look more black in certain lighting, but if they look purple in bright light that means they are that color and it is just masked in darker lighting - the male scales look black in any light. Black and white can go with any color armor, purple does not.

What exactly do you think Yoshida is talking about when he says he is thankful to the players for their constant feedback? Feddback is to be given by a costumer to the service provider at any given time.

Well since this is bumped and I have been playing with this for a few days... My opinion will be more hefty concerning the males, but I do have some things to say about the females. Quite a few of these will echo sentiments in earlier posts. We can't have everything we want, but feedback is feedback. I like the race a lot still.

Overall
- The horns connected with the face was a disappointment. I was expecting horn customization rather than tail. If it's in for release, great, if not... it'll be male night elf eyebrows all over again for me.
- The colour of the scales for Raen weren't quite as bright as I imagined them being (especially for the males), and it would have been nice to change the shade in a set palette of white/cream and black/midnight colours for the sub races.
- Of the tails, the thick and flat one looks more like someone stuck a big flappy knife to their tailbone.
- Love the limbal ring option.
- I'm generally happy with the way the scales look.
- I don't mind the extra horns for the hairstyles, but I can see how they bother others.
- I can't give a solid opinion on the voices without hearing them in a combat setting, but I'm not too big on the female choices and some of the more prospective selections for males have me slightly concerned on what melee combat is going to bring.

Males
- The dance... I don't even know how to react to it, but I don't play games for the /dance.
- I wish the tails were longer.
- Their hair is superb, though I wish for a voluminous long hair option that doesn't look water drenched (and no stupid headband!).
- It's more the problem of how big the limbal ring is compared to the iris, but having the limbal ring option on pretty much reduces a lot of visibility for the colour of the iris in males more so than females.
- If I have one criticism for the scales, is that I wish the coverage was throughout the spine instead of skipping the shoulders.
- I love their figure, but... they could use a bit more cushion (I'm happy I'm not the only one that thought of this). I like my men to have a nice and shapely behind. ^_^

Females
- Without going on a giant tirade, I'm a bit disappointed that they don't have a more aggressive set of customizations. The furthest I could go from cute appearances is the creepy doll look, which wasn't very creepy in the first place. This is probably more of a criticism on the direction they took with the women.
- Their hairstyles when compared to the male selection feel lackluster.
- The skin variety feels lacking in relation to the males.

This feedback is more centered on females than males since I don't play male characters.

What I don't like:

-I don't like the huge height difference between males and females. I would have liked a higher height range for female Au Ra to help close the freakishly huge gap between men and women Au Ra. Female roegadyns are the only ones with a height slider of 1 foot. I would have liked to see that come back for female Au Ra so I could have a 5'7" gal. In general though, I don't like the huge height difference. Female Au Ra look like children standing next to their men and this disturbs me.

-Faces and horns being tied to each other.

-It can be hard to find limbal ring colors that don't clash together dramatically with the iris.

-Face paint should be layered under the scales, not over

Things I do like:

-Wide range of skin colors
-The animations
-The tails
-Ability to customize scales

Think that more towards gameplay, like X content is too hard or too easy. Drop rates are too low, housing cost too much or there no enough lots. Not a design of a character that set to go live in little over a month.
