Who wants to be a Gillionaire?

My guess is that anyone who has spent that much time in game would be hindering their RL personal finances. I don't think it would be that hard to master the market board if you could play the game most of the day and didn't have kids, job, life, or in a relationship. This seems to be that your sacrificing your real life for this game, 2 and a half years. Also, a thought that an mmo can become a serious addiction.

awesome! I hope to get a decent gil eventually. Im broke AF, then again I started a whole 3 months ago. But the time has come to begin crafting and selling. Setting my goals small and working my way up. And just because someone has a ton of gil, doesent mean they have no life. I play a lot and still have time to go out and "play" at night by chasing down poon (in which case I swear off alcohol the next day while glaring at my screen) cheers!

Thanks for the advice and you are right. I already know the possible outcome. The better way is to remain low profile and blends in with the furniture. I been doing that for the past years. In a way I'm aware of what's to come before clicking that post button. Years of MMO and forums has taught us that majority would come at you for the sake of coming at you when you put up a sensitive shoutout/milestone. But sometime all work and no play makes Jane a dull girl. Its a risk I'm willing to take with the community. :) And I'm glad to my surprise, some are able to take it positively.

Hehe. Im all ears if you want some current patch market analysis and potential category to work on. Sometime going for the big and and hot things aren't necessary the best approach. You tend to do more work for the same result just to be in the same ship of a overcrowded vessel. Find alternate route to market that you yield you the same result with lesser competition. And of the day, its all about profit and losses (P&L). Not how many items you sold in quantity. Best of luck.

Grats Xiao! I've always tried to balance crafting and raiding and can never find as much time to craft as i'd like. I'm curious, as someone who has dedicated their playtime to gil farming, What are you DOW/DOM achievements in FFXIV so far? Can you give us a little backstory on your raiding experiences etc.

I know alot of very wealthy players who make alot from Selling Content and have always been curious if other Career Crafters suppliment some of their income this way.

Kinda funny SE reduced everyone's gil by 1/10 at the start of ARR and then go and pump 10 times as much gil into the economy. I still have less than a quarter of what I had at the end of 1.0 so relatively I am much poorer. Even if I had the amount I had at the end of 1.0 I would still not feel as rich as I did back then.

Because he is right. Some people use games as an avenue to escape reality or the lack of a fulfilling life. Sorry to bust your quippy bubble, but virtual reality can never compete with RL achievements (unless you are actually getting PAID to create these games). Gaming addiction is real, destructive, and this thread is proof.

Last I checked, employers weren't scanning resumés for MMO accomplishments like this obvious and dangerously deceptive "look at me" thread.

And I'm quite sure there isn't one gravestone on the planet with "Here lies Gillionaire; FFXIV's MB Master".

I used to chase end game in other games. Till I tried doing a first DOH in ARR and felt in love with it. Moderate progression on coil. Most of my playtime are on discipline of hands. I have killed a ladybug before if that's what you are asking. :)

But I do keep good contact with raiding FC if I need materials from dun that are tradable. In a way, Im utilizing the MMO aspect of the game. They specialize in killing, I specialize in crafting workshop. We meet and exchange "individual's specialty".

Re-invest might be the key word. ;)

1. Understand the market - Read and understand the patch and its progression
2. Identifying the opportunities - Example when Ninja was newly launched, what will be people be looking for?
3. Forecast & planning - Don't buy materials last minute when you need it. Plan ahead what you need and purchase when price is good. Keeping a good network is important also.
4. Being there when buyer needs it - Market board PVP. Nuff said.

You will find it more effective doing this in 3 hours compare to others jamming 8, 10 hours randomly.

Not even 5%. So its not so bad as what other claim. But agree, there is not much need to go above a certain amount, like 20m. Some joined Leviathan EX even though they already capped tomes gotten pony. But they still que coz they like the fight and excitement. Some already capped wolf mark, but still que for wolf den. Coz they like the fight mechanism and adrenaline rush. Some already have enough gil but still work on market board. Maybe because that is their interest, the economy and meeting demand with supply.

Yes you are right. As a crafter/raider, the repetitive task burnout is real. Even a casual player who clocked 3 hours a day will reach 1095 game time a year. (Repetitive work + nonstop) X over time = stress. Especially in arr when you are dealing with RNG factor, whether its running the same dungen 50 times and still dont get the loot, or crafting 95% quality and hit NQ 3 times in a row, (gad i have many of these facepalm moments considering the numbers of items i craft per week..) these are the derp moments that we often face in game. Many ups and downs like what you guys been through. I had a goal, and i was determined to work and finish it. And now that i have finished it, I am ready to post and take the public criticism or execution. xD

In a way you are labeling "People who have lots of gil are hardcore. Hardcore people have no life. Therefore all ppl who have lots of gil have no life." And all the gil farmers & crafters are working to put this on their resume. Good one. Best reply we have seen so far. xD

I dont see any issue for people who are the world first to clear T9 or T13 in FCOB to post their results. If you know the economy, micromanage and plans your forecast well, you don't even have to jam 5-10 hours per day to get this result. If you didnt want to or couldnt (even after you tried), then its allright. We won't say you have nothing to write on your tombstone. But we can share a few market insights or opportunity segment that one can try out. If you want to take this to an university business administration level, market analysis, equilibrium between demand and supply, consumer behaviour, supply chain, forecasting, economy of scale production, and even product life cycle are the things some of us are applying. In rl or in game. Its just a habit : 3

Yeah. It definitely feels like they need to find an excuse because they can't reach that goal.

And yeah. Funny how people that raided FCoB on week one. barely sleeping gets congratulation, and people that get more uncommon achievements are being told they have issues.

When you have this feeling to craft for your self and the benefit of others around you, it will go a long way. The fun part of making something and giving to the people you know, was the origin that started the train and it's chain reaction. It was also the begining motivations source for most of us crafters. Back in the old days i used to craft a full inventory of gears for a company chest using my first 100k gil. Seeing people taking it off the chest and use it for their lvling was a satisfying thoughts. Not trying to potrait a nice angel & heaven picture, but sometime the good feeling u get makes ur day better to try new different things.

The problem with your approach is.. is that just because you can't make million gil in an hour, you assume nobody else can. But really, if you have the right resources and the know how, it's quite simple.

You could just as well argue that assuming an average American salary of $50k/yr (rough figure). People that make 300k/yr salary must work 240hrs a week to meet their financial success. We all know that is not the case. Same goes for the game.

Sure, there are brutes who make game money simply by playing 20 hours a day, but I assure you, it can be done in considerably less time than you suspect.. Just because you set a limit for yourself, don't assume the same limitations apply to other people. You are not the standard of which to set the rest of humanity upon, I play about 2 hours a day max, on my days off perhaps 6hrs+ but I can still manage to make few million gil each week quite easily. Not everybody has to make a sacrifice to succeed at something.



P.S. I agree with you on the seriousness of gaming addiction, I've seen a friend or two go through that and perhaps have had my own problems with obsessive gaming when I was younger, but it is uncalled for to assume that the OP suffers from any of the problems you described just because it is out of your capacity to comprehend.

Really, you might as well watch the Olympics and say that all the athletes must be doping up because you can't run a 100m dash in 10 seconds..

Of course those of us with gil all know this was part of SE's strategy to redistribute the wealth. First reduce everyone's gil by 1/10 and then bring 10 times times the gil into the game as new money so that people can "catch up" easier. The rate of new gil into the game is probably higher now than it was in 1.23

Tbh, that kind of strategy would backfire terribly with the amount of advantage the veterans have.. They would gobble up most of the new money anyway.
I do think that a lot of the 1.0 riches didn't really flood the game too much because 2.0 brought in a considerable amount of new players to made it all moot. I don't believe it was SE's strategy that fixed it.

Either way, I think they made the gil farming strategies so narrow and painstakingly grindy that most people who are farming gil have to have ad-hoc strategies.. That already cuts down the number of people competing and leaves enough share of the pie to the few that would bother with it. On the good side, there's really not much you can do with gil past the certain basics, so the gil farming is not a necessity

People trying to find excuses to make you look bad are just ridiculous, specially because you never tried to bring anyone down in the thread. Haha. Valid approach.. Competition in my world are stift. (And i guess its the same everywhere) I do meet people who tries to cover every single item every day every week every hour. Although ideally we all would lke to do to maximize opportunity. However after considering the opportinuty cost and QoL, i decided to leave some segment to the rest of the hardcore crafters. Would reco avoid the perfectionist path or attempting to do everything. Do what we can in the most time effective manner and take breaks if you are feeling burnout. End of the day, it's just a game.

Thanks for the kind words. I have been in various MMO. And i know the gaming community well to be expecting and to handle these criticism. I once read a post in this forum "Even though you can create the most perfect environment where people are holding hands leaping through a field of flowers happily, someone will still just come out and tell you that you are doing it wrong". Gotto tell you, i love the peeps in this community sometimes. xD

Game QoL is more important to me at this point. Finding friends to play the game together. But i wish the ongoing crafters best of luck and happy karafuting.

As ironic as it is, for all my talks of people being able to make gil without being a brute.. That's actually my favorite way of working the MB..

I just craft little bits each day for a week or so then flood the crap out of the market (a couple different commodity, I don't spread my efforts)
Every week or so I just unload everything I've made and take over for a couple days. I think my retainers have had enough presence that most people won't go into a price war with me because they know I'm no more than a temporary nuisance for a couple days.


It's not the most efficient, but it seriously cuts down the time spent adjusting prices and I can still sell while afk as I'm not getting undercut by competition.

That is actually a more sane way of playing the MB. Take the average price index and leave your item there for a week. Of course there will be other sellers who camp and lives at the mb. Sometime when they undercut each other everyday, by the time they sold theirs its about 30% of the average price index. (Example 500k price index undercut till 250k, profit of 30k). After a week you might sold yours at 80% of the price index (example sold at 400k, profit of 180k.) In a way you just sold 6x item compare to the first few hardcore sellers. Emphasis on "might", this is sometime only works on item where demand > supply. We aware that hardcore crafters might just relist their item again and again. Situation depends on market and the aggressiveness of competitor you are dealing with.

But when you are pretty much done with the mb and just wants to enjoy QoL and other game contents, your approach is recommebded.

Understandable. Yeah It isn't easy to sit there 2-4 hours looking at just number crunching and a panel of progress, durabilIty, quality or even the pre-planning for quick synthesis. Crafting isn't the only way, however from what we've seen and observed, other methods like SB, synthesis also requires some extent of grinding. I guess this is part of the mmo elements that we cannot deny or escape from.. It is the key core foundationa nd KPI when they develope a MMORPG. I reco you choose a method that you like and best fits your style.

Congratz.....I guess. LIke alot of have said pretty pointless to have that much gil. And if that is true you must have absolutely no life outside of the game which is a bit sad....

Hehe. You know sometimes, what are the biggest challenge for people who think and work outside the box? It is that they still have to explain to the people who are still inside the box. For the question of why do you need to move out of the box/why do you even need so many gil, the answer is pretty simple. Because I can. Nuff said. :D

As for the potrait painted as someone with no life, lives in basement, and.. i cant remember the rest xD. Its all good. It would totally suck if you actually found out someone who can kick arse in education & career would still kick arse again in the game (that you played) actually exist. It's funny, raiders have the same "rep". It doesn't matter if we are casual or hardcore raiders, apparently none of us are capable of putting a block of time aside to raid AND have a job and a life.

In reality it's all a matter of scheduling, nothing more. Everyone in my raid group have full time jobs. My raid leader is extremely smart - a pharmacist. Both our BLM and BRD have wives, one of them has three kids. In fact, one of his kids is in our raid group. I work, take care of my grandmother, tend a wonderful garden in my backyard and enjoy the company of friends.

Not sure why the no-lifer thing became widespread.

first, a small /rant... crafting... high-end items that are crafted are SO expensive. and i understand why. but the problem is that, if you can afford this item... then you either saved up for like forever, or can actually craft it yourself.

any how, /ranting aside... how do you get Godbert as your retainer?






P.S. money ain't worth a thing, unless you spend it. so please don't horde your gil, and go spend it. ^_^

Personal rant:
There is nothing sadder than human ignorance.
The incapacity to comprehend the possibility of other human beings that are capable of achieving far more than oneself, without having a serious deficit in character.
Real people aren't made up of D&D Character sheets, we don't all start with the same numbers to spend on stat points, nor do we all share the same level cap. While you assume other people may be dwelling in their mother's basements, you are stuck inside a little bubble you create for yourself as the range of possibility.. for all of humanity. Not only is it unfair to impose such low standard of limits on yourself, it's down right criminal to impose your will of mediocrity upon other people.

I say this because I sincerely hope you're able to see the World with a wider scope of view than you currently possess, because to assume that you are the model of normalcy and anything deviating from yourself is flawed.. that's just sad.




P.S. I am in no way saying that OP is a paragon of human achievement, I simply find it appalling that some people have to resort to calling him a no-lifer because in order for themselves to achieve the same goal, they would have to be one.

Its extremely likely to be MUCH easier to make gil your server but congrats regardless. Despite being on a much more populous server, where it has much more competition and is much harder to make gil for various other reasons as well, I still manged to make 600 mil. Its really easy to make this kind of gil in this game if you have half a brain and 2-3 hours a day but I gave up on making gil a long time ago. Too bad gil is still useless in this game.
