Hey, fixed that for you.

Emergency money making procedures need emergency maintenances. What, you mean not enough people are buying our seasonal stuff because most existing players got them when they were free and a lot of new players don't care about cash shops? Quick, make that stuff dyeable, that will surely motivate people to buy them now.
2.4 patch, I believe, was 24 hours (give or take time for early finish, I don't remember that bit). But yeah, you're right; most of them are a lot shorter =) Especially the non-patch maintenance times. And even when they've stated a time, more often than not it's finished ahead of schedule.
(And on that note, I fully approve of stating for example a 3 hour downtime and finishing half an hour early, than announcing a 2 hour downtime and then having to extend it by another 30 minutes. Not only does it cause less stress in employees, but the former usually results in fewer upset customers :p )
The cash shop... is stupid
Taking down the server during prime game time so it inconveniences the customer and not the company... really stupid
Taking down the server just to add a couple items that will only benefit 2% while inconveniencing 100%... heinously stupid
Complaining about it on the forums... just as stupid because Square Enix doesn't give a _____!
Btw. Cant wait to get home after work to glamour the set I got last year for every job in one color each
The maintenance just appeared to be a "emergency cash grab" if anything. They are like oh crap, we can slip this in there and get some extra sales on the cash shop during the event. I really don't like this situation at all. :[
Just looks like the NA thread wasn't updated as much as the EU one. Calm down folks, there were some relatively significant things fixed.
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...Feb.-6-2015%29
Not sure what you're reading, but the EU thread's Feb 6th notice has the same thing as NA's. Dyable Valentione gear only. What you linked to is the very beginning of the thread, going back to the first hotfix ever.
Nope, seems you're just unaware when a maintenance happens one night in NA, it's the next morning in EU. My point stands.
And since people can't read I'll just quote it.
/endthreadQuote:
The following adjustments have been made as part of the newly released patch:
- We have adjusted the difficulty level on the following conjurer quests:
Trial by Wind / Trial by Water / Like Mother, Like Daughter
We have addressed the following issues:
- An issue wherein the chocobo companion action "Choco Medica" would not properly recover HP.
- The following quests were not able to be completed if a player’s inventory was full:
My Feisty Little Chocobo / Double Dragoon
- The cutscene for the "He Ain't Heavy" quest would be canceled when receiving damage.
- When challenging a boss during a FATE, the reward received when the FATE was unsuccessful was incorrect.
- There were cases where monsters in the Aurum Vale instanced raid would not use specific moves and the server would go down under certain circumstances.
- Searching for items on the markets that are available in large quantities would cause the game client to shut down.
- When stepping into an unknown land, players were able to obtain experience points repeatedly.
* We will be correcting the data for players that were affected by this issue.
If you received experience points in regards to this issue, please contact us via the Support Desk, or wait for more details from the Operations team.
We have implemented a solution to the following issue:
- Monsters would occasionally not appear during quest battles, which would prevent progression in the quest.
Uh, no it doesn't? You linked to the beginning of the thread. They change the title of the thread every time there is hotfix so that people can see from the title when the most recent hotfix was. The very last post in that thread is the most recent hotfix....which is dyable Valentione only.
EDIT: What you're quoting is the very first hotfix ever, on 8-28-2013. They just change the title to reflect that the thread has been updated. Please look at the actual date the post was made, and actually read the changes they addressed, which are all long since fixed. /endthread
"Last edited by Pheetdra; 02-21-2014 at 11:26 AM." Really people, give it up, your dreams of raging pitchforks about a maintenance happening about dyeing items is misplaced.
That's just how that thread works; it was posted in 2013 (2.0's first hotfix) and just keeps getting editted.
Is this really happening? Are we really arguing about this? Even if that edit timestamp was an update...it is from February of 2014. Please, Alistaire, give it up, you're embarassing yourself here.
No I hadn't noticed that, but now what you're saying is that you think in 2014 they updated a thread to say
"[EU] FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn Hotfixes (Feb. 6, 2015)"
OK then. Not only did they get the year wrong saying it was 2015 instead of 2014 but also predicted the exact day of a hotfix a year early? That's pretty pro to be honest.
/doublefaceplam
Alistaire, compare the CONTENT of the patch notes you linked with this patch notes from 8/28/13 and notice they're the same fixes.

The others are correct, they just edit the date for the thread but the patch notes for that new date is the very last entry of the thread.
Read first post of this

Read second post of this

Now please stop.
Yup, you're right. It seems I've just underestimated how badly SE is upkeeping that thread as what I said is exactly how it's supposed to work. That thread started in 2013, and just stopped getting updated properly a year ago. So yes, I take it back but certainly not based on what anyone else has said.
Notice there is no entry there showing what was done during the maintenance done on 01/19/2015:
http://forum.square-enix.com/ffxiv/t...=1#post2695682
There is a notice for 01/08/2015, then the next posting was for the maintenance on 01/21/2015. But there was clearly a maintenance conducted on 01/19/2015.

It was because in one of those, they didn't change anything as far as the game's current features...but they could have been fixing operational issues with the equipment, or laying the foundation for an upcoming patch. If you look in the Lodestone's Status page, you will see there was a rash of issues with specific worlds leading up to when that announcement went out, and then the emergency update occurred (Jan 13-Jan 19). Now look at what was going on around the time frame this maintenance was announced and took place...more world server issues were happening.
So, it's not too unreasonable to expect they were addressing some configuration issues with their equipment this time as well, or pre-loading some patched code for a pending update that they needed to tweak after they conducted testing of that pending content. These kinds of things don't get routinely announced. You can spot them if you reconcile the Lodestone notices with the forum announcements for completed updates. IDK how may times I've clicked the link in the Lodestone notices after maintenance, only to see NO notes given on what was done. It's because it wasn't related to current in-game changes, but perhaps there were operational issues or they were prepping files for a pending patch.
...Are people seriously complaining about not being able to play for THREE hours? For some cosmetic stuff? Really?
If anything, the break is good for everyone. The servers get a rest and can always do well from a refresh, and players can go find something else to do or call it a early night. Geez people, lmao.
Depends on how big your butt is?
seriously, if that was the reason for the update, its pathetic. Actually its beyond pathetic.... to the level that makes me wonder why i bother subscribing to a company that thinks so little of their customers.
For all of us on the west coast, the game went off at 9pm. I hate that the NA servers get maintenance in the middle of their prime time, and for that garbage? seriously?
PS before all the players on a continent other then NA get pissy, yes i think that the eu servers should be in europe, and maintenance should not be within the playtime for the majority of that targeted player base.
The update took roughly 1.5 hours, not 3. Not sure when they actually came live again (was asleep... East Coast), but even if they stayed down for 3 hours it isn't all that unreasonable considering they may have bounced them in the process. It can take a good 30 minutes for a server to completely restart and get ALL services spinning up again.
Ever notice how long it takes for your PC/Laptop to do a complete power cycle and the hard drive to stop thrashing? That is a rotating disk, not an SSD. Your desktop comes up and the system appears to be booted, but in reality it is not. Some clients can churn for several minutes loading additional services and assets in the background after your desktop loads.
The delay is far worse on a server, more so for large clusters and arrays to be fully in synch and ready to go full bore again.
Regardless of the specifics, the servers weren't down all that long. There's little reason for the outrage, lol. Was it annoying if you had plans? Possibly, sure. But it ain't all that big of a deal.
The update was able to be downloaded about 1.5 hours in. The servers themselves were still down for just about nearly the entire 3 hours.
I dont think they are annoyed at that fact that there was a 3 hour maintenance but are annoyed that the hotfix was for something complete "unimportant". IDK but pple have been finding issues here and there that can and could be game breaking and needs fixing. But instead, its for something along the lines of glamour.
Well this was more entertaining than playing the game itself
Actually, ever since this emergency maint (I wasn't on at all when the maintenance happened, but was on this evening) the RMTs on Couerl..... have been pretty silent... o.o Got a total of maybe 5 or 6 for being on for 5ish hours o.o ...which is absolutely silent. o.o *Absolute bliss T^T*
o______o did they do something to help in the emerg maint, I wonder xD (Or am I in the Twilight Zone?)
If that was the case, I absolutely /bow /clap /thumbsup /rally /joy this emerg maint
(I just hope I'm not jumping the gun)
This game does go down an awful lot. I don't have much time to play and it seems like 1/3 of the nights I get a chance to log in and get something done there's a maintenance. I don't remember FFXI being this way. Does this game go down every week?
