On my two accessories with Accur on them, replace VIT for STR for fending. I don't have the gil resources to do anything more expensive than that, espcially because I failed FREAKIN THIRTEEN melds with my first STR4 on my Fending Earrings. At an average of 120k a pop (including the ones I bought pre-patch), that cost me about 1.7m. I then proceeded to fail 7 melds of VIT4 on my str accessory for a cost of about 1.2mil. So far I've spent about 4.5 mil on melds on have a total of 4 done across my two accessories, and no gil left; that's not including the cost to get them made. Totally deflated, trying to figure out ways to make gil with limited playing time. Clearly my excitement for this patch and the new stuff, and my ability to appropriately earn gil and budget for them was askew.

Yeah I can't convince myself to make any of these accessories. I could see doing them just to have something to do. (2.5 didn't offer much in terms of content for anyone that's already farming Coil)

They do make a really nice difference in DPS, but right now I am feeling the effects of being on the raw end of RNG and it is devestating lol. I've spent so much gil on accessories I cannot even use at this point, and probably won't be able to use at all for several more million gil that will take who knows how long to acquire.

I melded out rosegold/gryohomskin. I melded out ruby. I have thoroughly enjoyed the benefits they have afforded me. I'll probably do at least 4 of these. I usually don't do the 2nd ring and use it as my flex slot as I can use 2 dps options and 2 tank options. 4 rings let's me really fine tune my hp, str and acc on the fly.

Yeah I have a full set of i90s and I have plenty of gil to make them. But they are useful for 1hour a week while I clear FCoB. (and even then I wouldn't need 5)

i70s were excellent.
i90s were very good and extremely useful for Savage Coil and FCoB
i110s don't have any content for them and with 60cap around the corner may never.

I feel your pain. I know someone who spent over 6.5 million total with some bad RNG / failed melds before finishing up. The New Jewelry is nice though, some nice STR / DPS boosts there. Congrats. :)

I broke Down and melded a set. Slaying neck and rings. Fending ear and wrist. The items were gifted to me but costed 11mil to meld.

Slaying are VIT 4,4,3 det 3 acc 3

Fending are str 4,4,3 ACc 3x2 on one Det 3 x2 on the other.

Puts me at 559 Acc without food so I can eat buttons.

Slaying neck: det IV acc IV vit IV vit IV vit III
Slaying earring: acc IV acc IV vit IV vit IV vit III
Fending brace: det IV acc IV str IV str IV str III
Slaying ring: det IV acc IV vit IV vit IV vit III

I made 5 i110 tank accessories. 3 slaying, 2 fending. I went with two fendings for cost purposes. STR IV was cheaper than VIT IV. I had a lot of Vit IV from before the patch (bought on speculation).

All have max STR (fending ones are melded). The slaying accessories have two Vit IVs (not bothering with the last 4 VIT). Rest is all determination.

I'm happy they decided to mix/match the secondary stats on the accessories instead of like the i90 ones. All STR ones had skill speed. All tank ones had parry, etc.

Can't recall how much I spent. I'd estimate about 1.5M on actually making the 5 items from scratch. Can't estimate materia. Bought most of it before the patch. Maybe another 4M?

I'm probably just gonna start with fending earrings and meld only Str 4 Str 4 Str 3. No fancy extra secondary stats, but the Vit/ Str/ Acc alone makes it a great piece, especially as an upgrade over Noct Earrings

Think 6-10 Det would be worth the millions? I'm not very wealthy in game

I'd say that 6-10 DET is not worth the millions. Personally, I'd toss Skill Speed on it to make a piece that benefits Warrior as well as Paladin.

Just put in two tier 3s (DET, CRIT, SkS); it shouldn't be too cost prohibitive.

Goals met:
1. Maximize STR and VIT
2. Hit 558 acc cap
3. Minimize parry
4. Enough skill speed to comfortably hit 9 GCDs during Berserk
5. Be as affordable as possible

I don't believe in future-proofing this set because we know the level cap will be raised before anything harder than T13 comes out.

Just use DET IIIs. They are like 20k each on Behemoth. 8 det is worth over 2str so its a nice cheap way to enhance the accessories.

I'm on an edge, I'm at T13 P3, I'm Paladin and I have both 130 fend rings, bracelets (dread) and earrings (dread). I hope to drop Choker in T11 tomorrow (Both platinum scarfs are trash for paladin, with parry on fend and SS on Slay).

I can craft myself all the accessories (Done several for my raiding partners), but still unsecure if / what craft for me. I was thinking about a Fending Bangle to replace Dread (parry/det), melding it wit STR IV, STR IV, ACC III, ACC III, STR III.... Is worth? Any advice on other pieces?

I went through the same thought process. Been doing T13 for a month now, using all i130 Fending accessories. (missing neck)

You only need 9000hp for t13 and I'm sure less is doable. Using i110s I picked up 90 STR at a loss of 400hp. i110s just crush out the other options. Are they worth the gil? Probably not since you are already clearing T13 but are they BiS, most certainly.

We had had shit luck for Fending left side drops. (2 belts, 1 body since FCoB was released)

I dropped 11mil total on the i110s but what else is there to do with gil until 3.0?

I've decided to start spiritbonding 110 BLM head and accessories, to hold until the expansion. If they add tier V materia at that point, then 110 will likely have a chance at turning into it. Worst case scenario I get a ton of TIV out of it.

That's a good idea. I should do another Wootz set or two to be ready. They will have to change the material system since IVs won't cover the stat growth. They barely do now.

TIV is enough for everything 110 except body/legs, head/hands/feet/belt you can cap 3 different secondary stats, and the accessories let you put in main stats.

bumping this to ask for some melding advice

so i have the platinum fending earrings, and so far have 1 str4 on it
and seven failed melds on the second str4
do i need to follow the order of 4 4 3 3 3?
id rather the slot with the highest fail rate cost me like 20k instead of 100k

You should meld in descending order of cost, since each subsequent meld has a lower chance to succeed. RNG happens

I really wish they can make melding and materia more viable. It relies too much on RNG at the moment. If Yoshi P is all about making us have a variety of options to choose from when it comes to gearing up and whatnot... then relying on RNG to meld an already RNG laced materia is a bit too useless and not worth the time and effort.

It depends on how many guaranteed slots you have. From there, it depends on how many overmelds you've done so far and what grade of materia you're trying to put in. If you want to put a Grade IV into the first overmeld slot, for example, you'll have a 29% chance of success. On an accessory, there's one guaranteed slot so you'll have this on meld number two. On, say, an Artisan's crafting piece, this will occur on the fourth meld because it has three guaranteed slots. Each successive overmeld has a lower chance of success. Getting any fifth materia onto an accessory is basically just an exercise in seeing how much RNGesus can hate you :)

@Deneb:

Just be glad you didn't play XIV 1.0. If you failed a Meld, not only did you lose the Materia, but you lost the *Base Item (and All Materia it had on it)*! :( LOL. Ugh.

The 3rd slot will never have a high percentage than the 2nd. You can see percentages at ffxiv.ariyala.com.

well number 9 finally melded onto slot 2
and then second skill speed 3 went on slot 3
so just 2 more slots left to fill

I failed 16 VIT IVs in my 29% slot when 2.5 was first released. Consider yourself lucky if that's the worst luck you get.
