You've never played WHM before, have you?

As a noob who doesn't have Medica II yet what's the supposed point behind precasting Medica II? So far I haven't felt a need to do any precasting beyond putting Stoneskin on my tank.
Check character info before posting, saves you the embarrassment of saying someone who has the Archmage achievement never played WHM.
Anyways, yeah, no reason to pre-cast this skill. That being said, no reason a tank shouldn't use the drop buff early function to remove a HOT before pulling. So yeah, sounds like stupidity all around really. Medica II is very MP efficient, if used properly. Popping a massive AOE HOT if 1 or 2 targets lose some hp is stupid. Popping it after all 8 party members take 2-3k damage after a big unavoidable AOE? Kuddos, whm. The WHM has pretty much every healing tool at their fingertips except for an AOE shield that can be used in combat. The GCD in this game is longer than I've seen in almost every other MMO I've ever played, If you can't read an entire fight situation in a matter of 2.5 seconds and decide on what heal you're going to throw out next, then perhaps it's not your computer processor that is too slow.
I love your banner...
Seems like it would pull aggro too, like casting Regen as soon as the tank pulls. I learned that the hard way as soon I got regen that it feels like an enmity magnet. I thought "Oooh! I can drop this around and.. NOPE NOPE NOPE NOPE.." I learned my lesson the first time I dropped regen on someone in a FATE grinding group and had a face full of flashing red enmity icons.
I have never heard of pre-casting Medica II. Maybe that's because I go as WHM... and have never pre-casted Medica II.....? Medica II is amazing. But pre-casting it would be idiotic. Yes.
Only time I ever feel the "click it off thing" is viable, is when I'm dungeon running or raiding with friends. If I accidentally medica 2 thinking the mobs aren't dead enough at the end of an encounter, I just tell buddy tank to click it off before speeding on like an idiot. Other than that you can't expect every tank to do it since most are lazy, 90% blind or rubberbanding a speed run pull.
If it's a genuine accident and they're still running off, stand inside the tank or run circles around them. They'll notice eventually or the mobs will get caught in the flash cycle. Run passed them for casters. SoS helps but I try saving that for holy spam. And never run away.Take that shit like a champ until saved or death. I find making sure I have the sense to run the mobs to them saves most pulls.
Oh and if you're a sch pre-casting whispering dawn, desummon Eos then punch yourself in the face.
And back on topic: precast medica 2 is dumb. Happy new year.
Don't blame it all on the white mage on this part. Even if Regen isn't on, there are plenty of other actions that would draw agro mid-pull with the same mechanics as well as long as the tank tunnels on one mob like an idiot and doesn't tag the rest:
Eye for an Eye
Apocatastasis
Fairy abilities (except Silent Dusk)
Foe Requiem
Goad
Aetherial Manipulation (yes, even Aetherial Manipulation targeted at the tank draws agro)
I wasn't defending pre-casting medica II, I was pointing out that all mobs should be tagged by the tank regardless.
It might be interesting to note, that Shield Oath and Defiance also double the agro of buffs the Tank uses. So if someone uses a skill like Eye for an Eye during a pull a simple cooldown like Tempered Will or Bloodbath will have the agro back on the tank. It's quite handy as it allows to re-stoneskin during longer pulls if the tank knows what you're doing.
Back to the point simple buffs during the pull are way easier to handle than pre-hots, if the tank knows what he's doing.
why? If we are talking about trash pulls, why should the tank waste time tagging every single mob when the rest of the pt can show 5 seconds of restraint. some enemies dont instantly move to your position so if you are pulling multiple groups once in awhile its a waste of effort to run over to flash the other mob when you can wait for it to come to the rest of the group. most of the randoms I get in ex roulette let the tanks position packs of mobs before unleashing hell on them.
For one: Eye an Eye that was used right as you ran into a mob. You don't throw an Eye for an Eye at a tank 5-10s before a pull. If you happen to use it 0,01s too late, you'll grab the mob's attention.
And secondly: Why wouldn't you? This is only really a problem for speed runs. For slow runs where the tank grabs one pack at a tank, you should have tagged them all in less than two seconds. For those large pulls where you will take fluff damage left and right, why make the healer's job harder? This generally leads to the following:
-Dying mid pull
-Dying shortly after complete pull and everything tagged at the end
In both occasion, you'll blame it on the healer. If you tagged everything with a shield lob/Tomahawk mid run, the healer can easily throw a crit cure II at you and not take hate. You don't have much better to do aside from running anyway. So again: Why shouldn't you? You can easily throw a shield/tomahawk at the mobs while running forward anyway.
had a whm precast med2 before every encounter while I was war in tam today
still had a fairly easy time holding everything, but then again I don't grab the whole dungeon at once
