From what I've read it seems that the following are more or less confirmed (feel free to correct or add to this):
TENTATIVE 1: Since we've seen content that gives Newborn Star also give Blinding Light, but not the other way around; I'll assume that Newborn Star is the max reward at this point.
TENTATIVE 2: I've also noticed that certain content can either give the max reward or a tier below, for example: Syrcus Tower has given Newborn Star or Blinding Light, but not Brilliant Light. If there is in fact a fatigue system, it is possible after several attempts at same content the rewards start to go lower in tier.
MAX REWARDS (in order of possible importance):
- Syrcus Tower / The Labyrinth of the Ancients give Newborn Star.
- Expert Roulettes give Blinding Light.
- Main Scenario Roulettes give Blinding Light.
- The Second Coil of Bahamut Turns give Blinding Light.
- Primal Battles (HM and EX) give Blinding Light. Confirm if all Trials follow this rule.
- Lower level roulettes give Brilliant Light.
- Brayflox Longstop (Hard) gives Brilliant Light.
- The Binding Coil of Bahamut Turns give Bright Light.
- Unhidden Treasure Maps give Gentle Light.
- FATEs give Feeble Light.
- The Hunt marks give no message of progression.
Did one HM Tam and got blinding light.
I think the picture of the weapon is what shows the progress and the words will only change once its full. Heres 2 screenshots. The first is before i did any content. and the second is when you first open it it showns it in full light for a second.

Those 6 minute Zergflox runs seem like they will be the go-to quick way to upgrade again, because of the time/investment ratio. If I can run 5 Bray HM in half an hour and get 5 blinding lights with a pre-made, that sure sounds like it trumps one newborn star upgrade from a syrcus tower in 30-60min time (depending on your group)
Oh and I didn't mistake the timing, in full i110 the entire dungeon can easily be completed in 6 mins with an efficient group.
Anyone spammed the same instance to see if there is diminshing returns yet?
Also, great observation Ulath.
Going on the assumption that Ulath is right, I took some screenshots to try to capture throughout the day. Initially, I thought I saw change....
Will update with more information when i have it.
Update - After grinding today, I didn't see any change. =/
I am so disappointed in the White Mage Nexus. It looks just like the Animus. :(

Does the new sphere scroll have room for more slots or will the secondary skills stay the same on the nexus?
Just cleared Ramuh Extreme ( my first Extreme with Novus for Nexus )
Got this message: The Veil of Wiyu Novus emits a bright light.
Just did an ST run that took over 35 mins, still only got a Blinding Light and not a 'New-born Star' bright
Only getting a gentle light from trial roulettes now. Back to back garuda then ifrit.
edit add Titan hm as well. all gentle light. Must go down the more people do it. Probably works kind of like the adventurer in need on roulettes. The things getting done the least start giving better returns.
Peisteskin treasure map emits a feeble light.
you need gold on fate for any credit, and it was all freebie. Extreme and DR Expert was brilliant, and Coil turn 1 was just below in scare, turn 6+ and Ramuh should yield the best credit
I did ST /DR /T6 and no light at all
help
I noticed this shortly after I got home from work and completed the Soulglazing quest, but the spiritbond percentage is missing from the Novus tooltip now.
I have a feeling that this is exactly as it seems to be, and that doing higher level content will net you a greater effect on your way to upgrading your Novus. The question being with this one is whether or not SE expects anyone to be able to upgrade to Nexus prior to 2.4 (if so, I intend to try) or if they're simply making this not possible (in which case, I won't waste my time spamming roulettes/ST).
It also comes to mind that after several attempts of completing duties and receiving the "Light" notice, upon checking through the Zodiac Glass the Novus still says it "exhibits no aetheric activity." This could be that the latter of my previous paragraph is true (that it'll take a long time to complete it, therefore it takes a long time to see any progress through the Glass) or that the former could be true (and that the Glass won't yield a positive report until you're actually finished with the bonding process).
EDIT: Another thing I noticed is that when you first use your Zodiac Glass you'll see the icons of whatever your Novus is with the visage of what the Nexus will be. This image quickly goes completely black and then slowly phases back in as a dimly colored version. I'm expecting this "icon" to be an indicator of progress. I wouldn't doubt SE is using this as a measure of how much "Light" your Novus has "attuned".
Ah good catch. I just looked and mine no longer shows a spirit bond percentage either. I was at 100% spiritbond before the patch. I just got it about a week ago and it stuck in my head since I though to myself that may be useful for the next upgrade. I think all we are doing is secretly spiritbonding them again and SE didnt want to make it seem that simple .
I haven't read through this entire thread so I'm not sure if any said this or not but if you look at the screen box when you open the Zodiac Glass, the picture of the relic is blacked out (unlike on Animus books, where it shows a color picture of the relic) - I think that possibly our progress will be measured through that - like the relic picture will fill in as we soul bond it - an obvisouly this will take awhile.
either exactly this, or else the brighter the light, the higher chance it will exhibit a change xD
It's either a simple SBing , or it's atma 2.
And given the amount of lame mystery surrounding this, I'm guess it is something lame and unoriginal and recycled but SE just didn't want to let us know that xD.
Message says indistinct after a certain amount of progress.
T6 - Blinding light
T7 - Blinding light
T8 - Blinding light

You need 2000 Light on your weapon to finish soul attunement.
I'll update these values as I figure out more but so far:
Feeble: 1 Light
Gentle: 4 Light
Brilliant: ?
Blinding: 8 Light
Newborn Star: ?
Tiers:
'No Activity': 0 - 199
'Indisctinct Activity': 200-399
'Faint Activity': 400-599
'Slight Activity': 600-799
'Modest Activity': 800-999
'Distinct Activity': 1000-1199
'Robust Activity': 1200-1399
'Vigorous Activity': 1400-1599
'Intense Activity': 1600-1799
'Extreme Activity': 1800-1999
'Bursting Activity': 2000+ (Complete)
So the best way to grind this is to spam ST?
When I killed t9, ramuh and titan ex it said "emits a Bright Light" i don't see "bright light" in the list...
