For Gridania!
Looks good, only thing I'm *slightly* disappointed about is that rather than building cool-looking company HQs into the cities they're instancing them off separately with the wards. Whatever though, that's easily changeable in the future (this could be temporary, considering they've mentioned redesigning the cities to an extent with the other maps.)
Excited to see how it turns out, don't let us down SE!
maybe its the golden patch after all :3
Wait does this seal business mean that they're all repeatable like leves and have no story like the leves (except for that flavor box)?
After all this time it's even harder to keep expectations low.
I'll stay with Gridania. Our leader is a girl with horns. HORNS. The battle is over before it begins.
We will also Most likely get to hear another FFXIV theme in the Grand Companies area =)
I imagine it'll be largely like the campaign system of FFXI eventually. We'll be getting hamlet defence in the end, and chocobo escorts etc which is all likely to be related to this company system. We'll also have these things coming for recruits in 1.18, which I imagine will fit the role of campaign ops.
Looking good!
I'd Imagine this could be it?

hopefully they do more with this, i think FFXI did it interestingly, having a constant reason to help out your country (opens up some shops and outposts for warps) I want to see this be more then just a glorified quest system with tokens.
Very triumphal indeed and probably suitable.
Or maybe this (one of the first in the official site): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8doI-...eature=related
Gonna have to be Limsa for me. Nothing like working under a strong woman with authority :p In all seriousness though it's where the Musketeer's guild is and they have boat magic. What else could one want?
As far as "Will it be like XI?" goes, from how people are explaining it I don't see how it could be different. There are many games that do similar things though so it's not just from XI. Join faction, do missions for faction, accrue currency and renown in said faction, redeem for stuff, do more missions, etc.... It's not exactly a new thing though there are a variety of ways to handle it I suppose.
At any rate it doesn't sound like bad content so to me that's good content.
If they're REALLY smart, they will pace these Grand Company storyline missions slowly from Rank 22 - 50+
From a content perspective, i'd rather see thirty main storyline missions at one per level,
Than a 22 one, 32 one, 42 one, and 27 top rank ones,
as the former would create a legitimate content based progress to rank 50.
But hey, in any case, i am looking forward to this.
It certainly doesn't sound bad, I think it was a great system in XI and would have made the cut if they took the best parts of that game to make the new one.
Yeah I hope for something similar. It would've been nice if the missions that stopped at rank 15 had carried on via the companies, but honestly I'm not sure that would work now considering you can select any company no matter where you start, unless they simply accommodate for that in the storyline.
I dont understand why the Company Headquarters need to be accessed by teleporting through the wards. In much the same way as the Path of the Twelve, there is no reason this cant be a physical place in each city. There are so many roads and doors blocked off that it almost seems lazy to not fill the places, but rather create another instance.
I'll join the adders i always thought girdania was the prettiest city..though i like ul,dah to lol umm...oh boy anyways anyone on besaid wana group msg me or leave your ingame name and i'll track ya down and we can defend girdania!
alright :D i'm currently being a guinea pig for science till monday so i might be able to see ya then at the very least tuesday :D i'm buying a beautiful young filly the 26th any suggestions for names? :D
wana name her after a chocobo
Anyone else find it awesome that we can switch companies? A lot of my LS wants to join the Adders, but I'm an Ul'dahn though and through. I don't wanna miss out on any of their adventures because of that.
I am thinking about making 2 other Characters 1 for each Grand Company
'Grand Companies' tab, or the 'Currency' tab?Quote:
Adventurers may check the amount of seals in their possession by selecting Attributes in the main menu, and then clicking the Grand Companies tab.
I guess it's best to assume this content will be like quests and leves until the patch is released. Honestly at this point in the game I was hoping for some coherent storylines with a beginning and an ending and proper cutscenes like in most XI quests.
I guess the release pace of the patches is so slow it's safer for SE to dish out grinding material than unique quest-lines.
Honestly I'm just trying to psyche out myself from expecting too much from this patch, back to repeating "it's mostly about AA".
Hm. Might be time to reinstall.
So, as far as I can tell from reading the above, we're bound to only one Grand Company after we pass beyond the rank of recruit. Am I wrong? Will we not be able to experience all Grand Company storylines?Quote:
To enlist with a Grand Company, first make your way to its headquarters, which can be accessed from the host city-state's market wards entrance. Once inside, speak with the recruitment officer and you will be asked to undertake a mission,* the completion of which will earn you induction into the organization as a recruit.
* Available only to adventurers rank 22 or above.
As recruits are not yet bound to an organization, adventurers are encouraged to use this opportunity to discover firsthand with which company's ethos they most closely identify.
Ahh okay yes that's a very good assumption guys. If it's anything like XI missions you can defect if you want but you need to start ALL over with the faction you are going to. I'm comparing City missions with these Grand companies....
