Its funny. I was just thinking he has a very similar appearance of Overlord Laharl from Disgaea. Scarf and all.
..Coincidence?
..Or maybe I need my eyes checked.
I always thought Bayhone was a woman and you were a big Roegadyne.
Damn it, have to revise my mental images now...
Ruki is this person?
LOL
Nah I kinda got that vibe too. Either that or The World ends with you / someone from Versus XIII (watch Yoshi-P have a guest appearance in a secret dev room). Gotta get some sleep though Yoshi...always glad to get more info from the main man himself though.
EDIT: Speaking of dev room, it would be nice to find a secret spot like that in XIV like the classic FF titles or 4 heroes of light. Some out of the way place with Akihiko Yoshida, Uematsu, Yoshi-P, Matsui, and the rest of the main team members with npcs representing them.
Nice interview, can't wait to see what the other community reps come out with.
The Fans club are already at their works DDD:
Hmmm...Rukkirii is hot! @_@ Now i know to what Opo-opo Lonsygg made that poem asking it to show him its ti- ahem! Better stop with spoilers regarding sidequests...
One thing that as a non ative english speaker keeps confusing me is the use of the term "Map Redesign".
This is one of my most wanted things in the entire game.
Does "Map Redesign" mean the same as "Zone Redesign"?
I have no problem with the hand-drawn beautiful paper maps but the zones have no theme or visual originality whatsoever.
I really hope this leads to some striking visual design like in other Final Fantasy games and not as just moving around some trees to make them look less copy/pasted.
Yay for jump confirmation and I can't wait for chocobos. I really hope 1.19 isn't another 2 months away!
wow 96 hours lol i dont think i could do that
I'm sorry to hear you lose so much sleep over this game, that's no good
Thanks for this nice interview! A redesign-map confirmation is always a pleasure to read. But seriously Yoshi-p... you should sleep sometimes lol.
Wow........
Game industry is such a hard work.
I wish he'll stay alive until this game shape up ^^;
Btw, it fun to read some great idea from Yoshida :D thank you for your hard work!
That's interesting that it takes 6 months to design a set of gear. But then, considering that a "Set" of gear may contain upwards of 100 individual pieces, I guess that's not too bad.
This was an excellent interview! Very interesting and good questions asked and very good answers as well! After reading this, I actually find Yoshi P to be a much more interesting individual to learn about, and a freaking crazy-hard working guy to back it up. Looking forward to more like this! ^___^ Was really cool the things he mentioned!
It's nice to see that both jump and map restructuring have been irrevocably set in stone.
Hmm, six months to create models for one full set of completely new equipment.. but what about the possible variations of existing equipment? Wasn't ease of creating new equipment one of the things the the Team Tanaka was so proud of in this game?
Allow me to refer to this video: http://youtu.be/wc0ilSksWBQ
The fact that the maps are gonna be redone is great news though. Here's to an open Black Shroud! :D
Too much fluff, but some good info in there.
Reminds me of the time some guy for IGN asking Yu Suzuki if Ryo could "rip his pants" in Shenmue. You've got questions with the guy in charge, and you ask stuff like that or about flying goblins? Really? Really?
I'm just glad that "Jump" wont be a integral part of battle.
He needs sleep... poor Square Enix manager rights.
Square Enix should get that dude a assistent manager.
Someone that will be his B#^&.
Pretty sure FFXI team had one back in the day.
Monster Hunter a good game. The only thing I dont like about is your kill same type of enemys too many times and game takes 120-300 hours to finish all missions.
Hi Rukkirii,
Great interview and great job presenting a behind-the-scenes glimpse of Yoshida-san. :) There are definitely some encouraging bits of news from the interview.
This was definitely a highlight. Re-confirming the major map revamp (from the "1 to 50 Zone" Thread). And it's good that he "gets it": That he wants to see memorable landmarks and locales just like we're looking for. :)
This is another great bit of news that FF14 currently is sorely lacking: The pacing of the game. In FF XI, there was a sense of pacing, going from your starting city (Windy, Sandy, Bastok) and earning a Chocobo License. And doing a quest to unlock your Sub-Job. Progressing to Jeuno. Airship Pass Quest, so you can use them. Gaining access to Yuhtunga Jungle. Sky. Sea, etc.Quote:
Yoshida: That would be our new 'conductor' plan. The point of our discussions is to consider fundamental revisions such as how characters access each part of the game content and how they develop after they're created, the level they need to reach to obtain mounts, etc. We're also planning the mount system based on this idea so I suppose this 'conductor' approach is our current hottest topic.
It's encouraging news to hear that they want to develop some of this with their Conductor Plan. So adventurers starting out might earn a Chocobo License by a certain Rank (something to look forward to and strive towards), and hopefully pace out more of the game this way.
Thanks again Rukkirii, and hopefully we get more interviews with the FF14 Team from time-to-time. ;)
In this quote,
the thing i interested more is the bold part. This means more interactive things to do in the areas and not only a static scenary to look? I really hope so.Quote:
I'm hoping to create more places like this when we revise the map - and make sure there's plenty of content to compliment them!
Monster hunter 3 Tri FTW!
Ahem I don't believe for a second that gear takes that long nor the fact that he thinks he's being more productive because he prides with the lack of sleep. It's the most unproductive way to work and there are dozens of studies proving that. Japanese need just as much sleep as everyone else and pretending you're a superhero doesn't change that.
I really like the idea of jump and chocobos. Also I'd really like to see some concept art for the zone redesigns.
I honestly hope they hire Kusanagi to do that work as they are the reason why environments look so awesome in VII-XIII FF games. It would be just what this game needs visually.
As much as I love Akihiko Yoshida's character drawings I honestly think all the games he has worked on have really unimaginative worlds and as such I wouldn't trust him to fix this. He should be designing more new gear as that's where he clearly excels.
As I said in the other topic, how in the hell do you know that he's less productive? There are people that feel fine after 2 or 3 hours of sleep. Just because a majority of people need more than that doesn't mean that there aren't people that need less than that.
Also I call bull**** on the bolded part, we all know you don't like anything.
Bethany "Rukkirii" Stout - You're my newest heroine :)
I trust Yoshi-P to manage his own sleep. As long as he doesn't kill himself or cause permanent damage, I have no right to question his judgement on how he handles it.
What I like are all the juicy bits of information we're seeing here. And who better to ask the questions than those who have been watching our every move. Thank you, reps!
Nice Monster Hunter T-shirt.
cant wait for the official German and French translated report tomorrow! :D
