Didn't read the thread, but have you tried using just one stick of ram at a time. If one stick is bad (an occasional problem) it could produce the issues you are seeing.

Tried the one stick of RAM thing but it didn't take. Thanks for the suggestion though!
Did you press the "clear cmos" button?
edit:
And is there a red number on the "debug led" thingie when it powers up?
Okay, if you have dual or triple channel ram, it may be just that ram is in the wrong slot. If you look at the motherboard check and see if the ram slots have different colors. You might see a pattern like gray, black, grey, black, or gray black white, grey black white. If this is the case, make sure that you have your ram in matching colors. If you do not have separate colors for your ram slots, they are likely in groups of two or three with a small gap, and then another group of two or three.
In that case, double check with your motherboard manual whether or not your ram needs to go right next to each other, or if it goes in separate banks. If the ram IS in the right place, try a different bank (for example, if all your ram is currently in grey colored slots, try putting it all in black colored slots). As always, make sure the ram is properly seated.
If that doesn't fix the problem, don't fret. There are more things we can do to test it and troubleshoot.
Tried everything I could with the ram and yeah I've been hitting the clear CMOS button; still no luck. Although, everytime after I've tried to start up if I press the clear cmos button it starts up everything exactly the same as ifI were pressing pwr again, except that hitting power only wrks once.
ANd no number shows up on that digital screen just a C before it goes off

Hrm, maybe you got a DOA MB, cause that red light should stay on, indicating the MB has power. No light for the RAM also could mean its dead. Just thinking out loud atm.
As for the RAM slots, with your MB, it would be the 2 slots closest to the CPU that you'd use for dual channel, which you have.
Lastly, if we can't figure this out soon, may I suggest you call a few local mom n' pop PC stores and see if they will look at it for you, may cost ya about $50. It can be difficult to figure these things out if one skilled in PC building is not present to see in person and make sure its correctly built, and what the symptoms are that you may not be aware of.
Mystery solved -- took the pc to a local micro center and after going over it we hooked it up to a different power supply and it kicked right up. So yeah, DOA PSU. Glad I got that figured out and glad I didn't do anything wrong...bummed that I will still be without a computer for another week or more
Interesting, didn't think of a dead PSU...doh Newegg has a great return policy, though it can take awhile to go through. The PSU that I suggested at first is back in stock so please get that one this time...Antec rulez...hehe
If ya have the spare money, you did buy on credit yeah? Order the new one and have it otw while the DOA one is headed back for a refund. You'll have to contact Newegg's live chat and request a full refund instead of exchange. {bottom of page}
This is what I'm trying to do but I can't figure out how to add the new PSU on to my old account, its just creating a new one and I definitely don't want two newegg cards for 12 months. customer service is closed for the day...should i just order it anyways and call them tomorrow and have them combine the accounts?
I dunno how that works, so I'd wait and talk to them, or just order it, but pay with cash and be done with that part if ya can. Though being this late even if you order it it'll be tomorrow afternoon/evening before it was shipped anyway.
So prolly best if you just wait, and see what they say first!
Yeah that's gonna be the way i hafta go, hopefully i can get the prts by monday or so. its too bad i'd never known about this micro center place i went today before, else i woulda bought everything from them.
Would've been a lot more expensive. Brick n' Mortar charge more for parts and don't always have the best selections, and also tend to only stock a select few brands. Its much better that you went online, even though it can be a little inconvenient when you get a DOA product, it unfortunately happens...
all of my tech friends swear by this place so i'm just assuming they're pretty good; at least i would save on the shipping! i'm just ready to get this guy stuck in and finally have this all be over!
It'll be worth it once you get XIV back up and running and able to play it on high settings...
Well guys my computer is officially up and running! My only problem is no Internet, and when I ran by radioshack the wireless Internet adapter was like $60!!! Is there any way/place to find cheaper ones or am I really gonna hafta spend that kind of money?
Amazon should have some for 10-20 bucks. You can get those anywhere though. Or use a LAN cable... which is always better anyway xD
Well as a quick fix I just plugged in my network cable from my UVerse box into the computer, so here I am online and good to go. Rather than spend an incredible amount of money on a wireless adapter though I'm thinking there must be some kind of wire splicer/adapter that will let me connect to both my uverse and computer, I'll have to go looking for one tomorrow, its gotta exist somewhere, and definitely be cheaper than $60!
So what do ya think of your new custom-built PC....much better than 'that thing' you had yeah!?
BTW, you have an EVGA MB and GPU, so don't forget to go to their website, make an account and register your products...do it immediately so you have their awesome warranties and 90-day step-up program, if need be...
Also do get their EVGA Precision Tools as well. You can use it to overclock your GPU, which honestly isn't necessary at all, but most of all you cna manually adjust your GPUs fan speed which I highly highly suggest doing, especially when playing XIV and really any high end game in from the past few years.
Your GPU will not auto adjust the fan speed properly for high end games and with XIV especially, it runs GPUs extremely hot due to being so un-optimized, so turn up that fan speed to 70+ when you're gaming and keep your GPU as cool as possible. You can turn it back down afterward. There are also on-screen temps and info you can display when gaming and even place a GPU heat monitor in your task bar near your clock.
Enjoy~!
Haha, much better yes. Haven't tried any games yet, been preoccupied with my roommate having this sudden crazy urge to play duke nukem for ps2 so he ran out to buy the game and had me set up the ps2. I'm making sure I've got all my drivers installed/updated and then I'll start the process of downloading some games, steam, etc. And btw, internal tempature is good when its low right? Mine is saying like 35 degrees or so right now
Yeah, thats very good, especially for having a GPU the vents its heat back into the case. It will raise exponentially once you push it with a modern game though. And you do have a decent case too, which helps a bunch!
did you guys have ridiculous problems with the new patch download? i went 1-4 pretty easy but ever since i got to 5/5 i've rarely even gone over 100KBs/s. it's completely ridiculous
Never use the SE patcher...I DL with the torrent file SE gives everyone...at least its much faster that way for me.
If I post how the mods will close the thread...they did several times already. Just look in your My Documents/My Games/FFXIV/downloads/ffxiv etc, or search for a guide with google!
Dunno why they're getting so butt hurt about it when they give us the means to do it with each patch.
Maybe you need to edit your game.ver file. Sometimes the updater just doesn't update that file and the content is wrong ^^
Well now that I'm actually playing the game and such I suppose I should ask how on earth you guys lvl up and the like? I did all my guildleves/battle&gathering leves, and I can't find any quests!!! What do you guys do while you wait for the leve timer to expire!?
You need a certain rank for each quest. Just kill some random mobs slightly above your rank.
Well you can grind behest, but with the 1.18 changes its much worse an option than it was...at least to me it is. You can also attempt to find a PT, but that requires being in an LS that actually PTs, or shouting in the cities until enough players answer but thats never worked for me yet. There is currently no way to search for players looking for a PT either; well SE claims to have added a seek option, but thus far it comes up blank every time for me, thus its broken.
Or you can just go and solo grind mobs...but that gets old very quickly while alone. There are also quests all over with ? over NPCs heads that give a fair amount of SP, but you have to be certain levels for them to appear. Also the main storyline gives a substantial SP rewards for each mission, but they're few and far apart. The Grand Companies also give a little SP for each quest but that too is very limited for now. The first new dungeon is r25, and you could always try and camp outside it and see if anyone are doing Pugs for some SP.
Overall, there are many ways to get SP outside leves, but in all honesty, and at least IMHO, most of its quite bland and very boring, or requires substantial SP PTs between each milestone to unlock more of it, which are difficult to form.
Good Luck with it, but I think I'm done with 1.18 and now afk from XIV until 1.19.
So how goes your new PC...I suppose XIV looks and plays substantially better than before, try any other games yet?
Ok, I'm just running around aimlessly mining and chopping stuff when I see it and activating the aetheeite things
I have a GTX 580 and I can't run this bugger on the highest settings without it stuttering like crazy. And forget Ambient Occlusion and Dept of Field......
