Except that dancers would be based on Gladiator skills then.
Dancers with whipes would be cool (like in Ragnarok online).
It would look like this:

I had a gut feeling dancers would enter the game and branch from the lancer class. I'd have go with it but it'd only be useful in full partys
There is already a mass of miqo'te yowling in the Quicksand, if this job is added there will be countless miqo'te "dancers" (ie strippers) running about.
Knives then? They can make a new weapon type specifically for a new class (say Thief), they're putting new classes and jobs in anyway. Maybe make them dual wielding like how Pugilists and Monks are, one weapon to equip but they have one in each hand.
I (at least) want something more like this than a ribbon twirling dancer like the picture you posted =p

Or this (could natively use daggers in FFT too iirc):

DNC certainly wouldn't be the same as it was in XI or FFT, but I think it would benefit from being a frontline DPS/Support (along the lines of Bard in this game, make it debuffs over party buffs) or even frontline healer if they could balance it right. A ribbon would likely make it a ranged healer like WHM and in turn give it little physical ability (a dancer should be swift, no? Not necessarily strong). A whip for a weapon, maybe, but a ribbon? No thanks. But regardless I'd probably pick up the job and make it my main until Red Mage finally (hopefully) comes along.
I would play the crap out of dancer. My only hope is that the healing/buffs would create an aura that would get stronger as you keep a combo going, kind of like monk.
Even if we already have Daggers on GLD all they have to do is make them dual daggers and voila, different weapon type. I'm sure they wouldn't have you equip two separate daggers anyway and have them paired like PGL fist weapons.
Fans seem like a good weapon. Going by the above image, scarf (dunno if that's the right word) would also fit, though it'd need weights or something at each end so it wouldn't be too odd to attack with it.
I'm sure many have already said this but I hope if they add a dancer class, it has a heal spec option. I also hope it goes into combos sort of like Monk and dragoon, that would make healing a lot more interesting. Good post OP.
I would totally play Dancer.
Dancer was my main in XI, and I say it at least once a week to anyone who will listen that I want dancer in XIV.
What made it fun in XI, though, was that it could do a bit of everything and was incredibly versatile, which unfortunately isn't something we really have in XIV. With the defined roles of tank, healer and dps it just wouldnt fit.
I would like to see it be a melee healer though as others mentioned. Thats what it was SUPPOSED to be in 11, but the cooldown on waltzes and shared timers made that difficult, and SE didnt seem to want to relent on that :/ A melee healer who focuses on buffs/debuffs while being up close sounds great.
Somewhat related, since I could see it coming off a class that also branches into thief...lets look at Thancred. I think he states somewhere in game he's a bard but...he's clearly not. We see him leap around and throw daggers. There's also a screenshot for 2.2 that shows him with TWO daggers on his hips, which I dont think he has currently?
Gladiator does have daggers, but since ARR came about, they've been making them less and renaming some. There's plenty of other hints in the game there will be a dual dagger class- just whether this class leads into dancer or not is another matter though.
I could totally see dancer story involving those dancers in uldah and costa not being REAL dancers.
Sorry I'm not from the Final Fantasy Fandom tho I'm as on board now as I'll ever get. I'm Forgotten Realms material. So would this dancer actually be dancing? If they do males count me in. I've always wanted to be a drow male in Eilistraee's convent.

I only know dnc from ffxi but they did dance to use their abilities. Weaving 'forbidden magics' and such in.
I hope if they add it to 14 they actually get special melee animations. I was sad in 11 it would show Lilisette dancing as she fought and moving all elegantly, but the players just used the default dualwielding animations (which as a hume, were particularly boring)
I loved Dancer in FFXI! I picked Bard for my main in FFXIV mostly because the support/DPS role is so similar. I don't know exactly how they could balance it with everything else in the game right now, but if they figured it out and implemented it on a later expansion, I would pick it up in a heartbeat!
Yes I would play one, actually that's the class I would like to play most of all existing and possible future classes.
Yes, I want to see my catboy dance
If dancer was added I would totally play it ><
I feel like dancer would be a great addition with the inevitable Al Mhigo expansion pack, it really feels like something that would have developed side-by-side with monks as an art-form.
I want my sexy twerking to healz peeps.

Yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes yes.
Dancer was my main in FFXI, and I absolutely loved it. The DPS-healer hybrid was amazing and extremely fun. It would become my new main over WHM in an instant if it functioned even remotely similar to how it did in XI.
Make them a melee DPS support class with the same damage as a PLD but have their buffs add enough damage to everyone else to make the numbers even out with a normal DPS class. Or a little less since they would be doing other stuff like heals and such, either way if they heal a bit the healers can toss some damaging skills in. So all and all it even outs.
I've never played XI, but this job sounds really fun and interesting. If this job is added, I would totally level it up to 50 and play as a dancer.
Dancer was one of my favorite jobs in FFXI hands down. being a Monk/Dancer or Thief/Dancer especially. All for that heal debuff you would put on enemies so that each time the enemy was struck the attacker would be healed. Since monks hit twice in an attack they'd get healed twice as often and Thiefs would attack so quickly that it was super beneficial for them as well. If they add Dancer to FFXIV I will play it for sure. If it were anything like it was in FFXI it would become my main for sure.
Seems like Dancer could easily be taken from Pugilist job. Just add Fists of Water for Healing, and some other element for other Dancer effects.
Dancer was the most fun job I played in FFXI, so yes, I would absolutely try it if it was in FFXIV.
Oh myyy
/10char
class : theif -> job dancer lol
I think if anything it would be a class that leads into thief and dancer. Thief would be the dps job, dancer would (hopefully) be a healer. I get that it isn't normally seen as a main healer and would probably end up as a dps support like bard, but I'm tired of the typical mmo healer where they're mages. I'd love to have a melee healer for a change.
If dancer ever get planned to be in the game with the same functionality from FFXI, and if what i quoted is true, id rather not have this job in the game EVER.
Yes as a WHM main, i feel concerned by being potentially casted out because double Dancer would "make things easier".
I know im sellfish to say id rather want Dancer to never be implemented and disappoint alot of players dreaming about this job, than having it and then take the risk to miss out the chance to join a partie as WHM, because everyone would want a double Dancer set up.
But eh, thats how am i, what i want always comes first regardless of others's opinions. ( No im not trolling )
Yes i want male dancer and we can have Pole Dance Olympic like this one

Posting here in support for this idea!
Maybe it can be a Discipline of the HAAAAAND, get it? ehhhhhh eeeehhhhhh? ;]
So I assume SE introducing SCH in FFXIV negated the need for your WHM, huh?
:l
P.S "Same functionality as XI" means it wouldn't replace WHM ever because, since when is WHM the go to tank for serious content? When can it even halfway tank anything decently on serious content?
DNC certainly couldn't function as it did in FFXI, so you wouldn't need to worry about it casting us WHMs out (I say this having main-ed DNC in XI). The TP system is far different from XIV's. In XIV we have a set 1000TP no matter the class/job that is always refills at a slow rate (and accelerated rate when not in battle). In FFXI we had to hit the mob in order to gain TP. XI's DNC has tools to keep TP high (mainly steps for finishing moves then reverse flourish for 60%-100% [depending on merits] of the 300% TP).
That said, people preferred having WHM or SCH (and Red Mage before aby) as the main healer for any group over 3 people, dancer would have trouble keeping up because of the cooldown times and TP cost of waltzes, which were upwards of a minute and a half on a shared timer and a hefty chunk of TP for the high level stuff. It just couldn't work the same way as it did in XI. We'd be far more likely to see one like Dancer in FF Tactics.
I would so totally play Dancer if it was enjoyable and a lot of their abilities can stem pugilist anyway.
