Not sure why you quoted my post since I never compared the price of a PS3 and a decent PC and I said it was my opinion that the PS3 version is unplayable after playing the PC version.
It's all about the money my dear OP and pc master race out there.
Edit: you're not bring more money than the console player. You, however, bitch the most.
I just saw a thread on another forum showing comparison screenshots of all 6 current/previous gen consoles, with the title "do console gamers still use the excuse "at least I can sit on my couch!"
And lol'd EXTREMELY hard because of XIV forums.
Won't be 2 GPUs worth a damn though.
I actually kind of agree, and hope that what happens to the PS3 version is the same thing that happened to the PS2 version of XI. XI fans don't complain that new expansions aren't primarily on PS2, JP only, etc, and they don't care, because the PS2 has been phased out. The only way this will work though, is when the PS3 doesn't have anymore developer or publisher support. As long as big games are still coming out for the PS3, SE will continue to provide support for it. Meaning your dreams of things not being dumbed down for a last gen console, or notebooks, or whatever the reason, won't happen for awhile. Money is money, and I can't see SE pulling the plug on it while people are still giving them a decent chunk of cash to play on it.
Keep in mind, I play on PS3 as well, have a PS4 and can't wait for beta in three weeks. The PS3 version is pretty bad compared to the PC versions, but it's not much compared to the way XI was on PS2 compared to PC, which was downright terrible. But, I also understand that not everyone can afford a PS4, or can find one either. So it makes sense for SE to continue to give those people support until the console becomes obsolete, which might be a year or two yet, if the PS2 is anything to go by.
If it does, however, get phased out, it would be nice to see them maybe open the zones up instead of having everything instanced and loading all the time you want to go anywhere. Honestly, and no I'm not an elitist, or being a jerk here, but that's one of the complaints I have with the game as a whole. Is that it's not an open world and follows the XI model of loaded zones. But, I understand the decision they made and why they made it....as I played 1.0 and built a PC for it back then and that thing ran like crap, it was just badly optimized. Also, I get that this will never happen and is simply wishful thinking. Although one can hope the game will look better as more expansions come out, as has happened with WoW and other MMO's.
Anyways, just my two cents.
All I have to say to your thread/idea is this.

Oh and.. look!

PS2 Sold online still! Wow I totally don't know what I post now ? Get yourself informed before trying attack someone, snow white.
It's not still sold on PS2 in the US through SE....click that link on that page to go to the store....oh right, doesn't exist. Maybe YOU should get informed before calling people names. And that person mentioned JP only already for expansions. So the point to your post was?
That link you put is just saying "Hey it's on PS2, look", that's it....it's like a description page for a product. Not a page where you buy it.
You CAN buy it new however....on Amazon....from Private Sellers....http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-...words=ff11+ps2
Wings of the Goddess was the last PS2 release in the US on disc, and that was in 2007.
Japanese page Sfarzoso, do you not read when people have said JP ONLY?!?!
The poster you insulted specifically said JP ONLY for expansions on PS2 after Wings of the Goddess, as did I. So your insults and your point to apparently counter-point his, is mute....because it's something entirely different.
So I have to go to Ebay, buy a JP PS2 or mod it, import the game, and then play it on my PS2 with a JP account that I had to setup and make since the region is different? Yeah, that's not SE supporting NA for PS2 FFXI, that's fans importing it to play. Again, entirely different things.
If you're going to make arguments, and throw around insults, at least know what you're talking about before doing so. Thanks.

Coincidentally Elly, you're also on my friend list in game. XD LOL. Good times. :P I'll shoot you a PM when I login. HA.
Well then you used to be. :( And I am sad now....thanks for ruining my weekend.
Ah, I just checked, and there is a deleted slot at the top of my flist....well played Elly, well played.
Better give me a friggin voucher for an ACTUAL Ps4 then if this happens. Not throwing away months of subscription only to require an upgrade that's NOT an expansion for the game.
Tell that to the PS2 people in NA that didn't get Seekers for XI. I doubt SE gave them a voucher for a free 360. It's going to happen at some point, at least probably in NA....will probably still be kicked around in JP, because that's what usually happens. XD However, like myself and a few other people have said, it'll be a couple years probably at least before you see support fading away from PS3. The PS4 will have had a price drop by then, etc.
And this thread has descended into people throwing about mindless annoying animated gif images at each other.
The PS2 version of FFXI is still supported in North America. The Seekers of Adoulin expansion itself was not officially released outside the Japanese market. Despite this, the PS2 version for North America has still been patched with all the new equipment, abilities, etc that are part of the expansion. Purchasing the PS2 expansion of SoA simply provides is access to the new SoA areas. The decesion not to release the PS2 version outside of Japan was purely a business decision of course. Why are we talking about FFXI anyhow?
If the PS3 version we're ever to be dropped, it too would for business reasons. Everyone screaming "PS3 limitations" would immediately stop and start saying "PS4 limitations" are "holding the game back." There isn't really a shed of truth to it of course. The term "PS3 limitations" is so ambiguous it can be given as the reason for why anything in the game is the way it is. Despite the claim, the PC version runs at a higher frame rate, and at higher resolutions. It has better lighting and shadow effects. And better physics and animations for character models, as well as displaying many more on screen simultaneously than the PS3 version. And it supports the ability to display more HUD elements on screen at once.
The PS3 version is still very playable of course. It looks and plays fine too. I've put up some parts of Pharos Sirius shown on running on the PS3.
Supported with patches isn't the same as actually getting full expansions released for the game....it's kind of a big deal if people want to continue to progress in said game, new areas, story, bosses that kind of stuff. Unless the patch makes all the boss fights and story in old zones for NA PS2 players?
XI was brought up because it was used as a point of "PS3 could lose support at some point", which is a valid point to make considering that there is no expansions coming out for XI on PS2 in the US anymore. Which is a definitely worth bringing up when mentioning "support" of an MMO, especially when they're from the same company.
They didn't do it with XI, they're definitely not going to do it with XIV.
Err srta going back to the orignal point lol..
Just as I do now, In the days of FFXI, I actually started on the pc, added the PS2 on another screen and crazily enough then added the 360 version when it came out... Played for many years and never had a problem actually playing the game on any of the consoles (yes a little lag at times on the consoles) and yes I always used my pc when I knew I going to run End-Game stuff or gonna be in Jueno for a while lol...
AND...
I do now play FFXIV on not just my PC but also my PS3 and I will also play it on the PS4 lol (and just beacuse some said earlier in the thread about spending $1500 on a pc.. err well I built my own at a total cost of $2154.38 and yes the wife was not happy ROFL) (and FYI I do also own an ASUS G750JX)
Now dont get me wrong, I love playing on all platforms and yes there is a noticable differnce in fps, lag, etc. but I put a lot of that down to the fact that the consoles
cant be upgraded and tweeked like some of the many higher spec'd pc out there.
and yes it helped (just like on the ps2) that putting everything on minimum settings helped quite a bit, I was happy to be playing the game. Graphics, etc wasn't as important to me or many other players, we just wanted to play the game. After all it's the game we like first and then the graphic quality, etc. and in that order.
As for dropping support, well on one side of the coin.. that's just daft, and on the other I can sorta see where you are coming from, but really? if you don't like the console players, don't play with them in a party or dungeon lol. make you own party and get on with it hehe.
BTW I own my consoles so I can play more variety of games and not just FF when I travel (I have my laptop for FF lol)
But that still doesnt make me want SE to drop support for this game. It was a shame they dropped it from the ROTW and even more so for the EU players as they didnt even get FFXI on the PS2 at first and had to wait years for it.and yes it helped (just like on the ps2) that putting everything on minimum settings helped quite a bit, I was happy to be playing the game. Wow I can rant can't I ROFL
I feel like Square needs to have these things happen before Ps3 players are phased out:
- Wait until first ps4 price drop (heck it isn't even in stock now...)
- Give option for Ps3 players to move to PC for free if they can't get a ps4
- Release a Mac client ( FF XIV is going to need this to stay competitive against ESO, which has a mac client )
- Optimize the game such that it is playable on whatever graphics card is built into APUs or Intel CPUs in mid 2015
It definitely does seem inevitable, right now I only have played on Ps3 (granted not very much due to college), and the ps3 would definitely prevent something like flying mounts from ever being added.
Even though looks like a good idea... it will never happen, since there zillions of PS3 already running around while PS4 had just barely started. They did the mistake already so now they have to deal with it.
Silly silly OP. They must live under a rock. Such silly demands.
Look at XI PS2 support still. Next they'll be all Nazi like and demand ps3 players be segregated and made to play on our own servers. I can guarentee most of us out play you dear. Go cry somewhere else.
a forced upgrade to PS4 should be in the cards at some point, don't have to be right away, but at some point
case closed
I play on PS3 and i'll have to agree, this should not be on ps3. I just got back playing the game again 2 days ago, after taking a break from a buttkicking Titan gave me when trying for my relic. And wow, my game has crashed 3 times. It's a NEW ps3 dammit. I have reported this issue so many times and i have yet to get any word back. I get that ps3 isn't very high on the priority list but i pay the same as any PC player does for a sub. And i would like this issue resolved or atleast looked into. I have no issues changing over to ps4 as long as this crashing BS doesn't follow me there as well.
Can anyone else on ps3 confirm game crashes?
I am on ps3 and I am working on my 3rd relic right now... I rarely crash nor lag in-game, and when I do crash it's my server having issues with that 9000 error... And I don't agree with you OP, even if I could afford a ps4, i wouldn't buy it just so I can play FF14
First. the reason a lot of people actually use ps3 instead of pc is because their PC cannot handle the game. Offering them a free migration would do nothing to fix the issue they have. Second, Flying mounts not being in game has little to do with PS3, and more to do with the zone issues. They are working on introducing them in a later expansion, this has already been said.
lets face ps3 is garbage its what 8 year old tec
people saying 400$ for the ps4 is expensive are either dole bludgers no lifers or cant and will never learn how to save
dont drop support just move them into their own servers like dcuo
the couch routine is a joke as well
my pc sits in the lounge room next to my wifes have a guess what we sit on and i use the 360 game pad move on
and a 800$ pc would smash this game out swear i saw an earlier post saying 2000$ plus to play on pc
wtf u smoking man dont buy a pc from a mainstream store man thats just crazy 30 mins of research would show you that its not expensive to get a good rig
