Thank you. The complaint isn't about quantity- it's about quality. It's about a fun and sustainable design vs. artificial barriers to extend the life of stale content.

Except no we are not able to get a refund, no one is. In their TOS they state their refusal to issue any refunds for any reason except provable cases of fraud or illegal activity in the purchase. Now since you are targeting a specific group of people, those who complain about the lack of things to do, they are not wrong. Square's idea of content aside from CT and the few new things, is a throw back to the ol' pallet swap == different. We have 3 levels of primals. That in itself is the pallet swap. Story and HM I can understand, but lets just milk these three encounters to their limits seems to be their thought process. That is just one example, I could give more but there is no point. If I could have gotten a refund I would. Now I just lurk in the forums to see if anything has changed, the answer, very little.
Tbh the only thing that i dislike are the ones demanding refunds for maintenance downtimes. One hour is equivalent to 2 cents of the $15 they paid. It'd take 50 hours of maintenance in a month to equal a dollar. (and the ToS has a statement regarding downtimes too)
i laughed in real life so hard at this thread. why the hell would u pay for a dvd u can torrent it easily the next day it comes out on dvd and even before that
I really love thing, please stop complaining about thing I love. I really dislike when people don't like thing I like or say they don't like things about thing, why can't people love thing as much as I do?
Basically, I agree with the OP, because I hate (HATE) the idea of "free-to-play" games. I am a software developer myself, need the money from my customers to live, and do my best to try and give them quality products.
The problem with FTP is that when you don't pay... are you really entitled to anything? How do the developers carry on? Ok, microtransactions. Does it really work?
This here game has a lot (A LOT) of problems. On the other hand, it is gorgeous. Do you want to know something? WoW always had a lot of problems, as big or bigger. But it is the best game ever made.
So, I hope our subscribtions help Yoshida-san & C to go on, and build a bigger and better game. I also hope (wow!) that they may learn from errors. Fat chance, I know. :P
Must be sarcasm; must be. Without a qualifying statement such as, "because it was the most profitable," or, "because of the low overhead and high return on investment," or something like that. If you as a "software developer yourself" really think WoW was the best game ever made based on merit... I wouldn't know how hard to laugh.
Oh I forgot, the forums are just a place for fanboys to circlejerk each other while the game fades away into mediocrity and the company loses profit. Right. Makes sense.
Meh, as a paying customer I'm allowed to complain all i want.
No sarcasm, I mean it. I am still playing WoW after almost ten years, unsubscribing three times and posting pages of really scathing critique on their forum. It's no more the game it used to be, but still going.
And FF14 may well become the fabled WoW 2.0, if they manage to fix some absurd mistakes and learn to listen less to the 5% elitists and more to the 95% - AND MOST OF ALL, TO PLAIN COMMON SENSE. :)
hey so if the guy pee's in my soup i just deal with it.
This whole post is,
while (complain < infinity) {
do "Complain about Complain that is about Complain about Complaining, etc ,etc, ...."
}
For the OP:
If you still around this toxic post, I do not see anything wrong with your first post or subsequent ones. You have made a personal comment that people took as another means to vent their ... whatever.
Sadly reasonable arguments are not what people want to hear or make. Personally I would love to see other people slam, misconscrew and insult their works, their actions or their wording in such rude manners that some have shown/done here.
Maybe that would help them understand the old proverb of "Do unto others as you would have them do to you" is extremely applicable in life and affects how people treat you. No only that, some of the venom posted here, makes me think these people are really bitter and angry at the world and everything in general. As much as I dislike their attitudes shown here, I sort of pity that their life is at a stage that such a small matter has become such a big deal for them. That they will lower themselves to such a low denominator that they have done and for what.... to win, to slam others, to be right at such a matter, ...
what if i spend one hour a week on this game each week? (my FC and I have been this way for the past 3 months)
that's all it takes to clear turns 1 - 5
i could do extremes, or ultima, or moogle, or CT.. but i play to progress my/my guilds characters
...and there's nothing but sidegrades/downgrades for all of us from any of that content.. most of us have one upgrade to look forward to: twintania weapons (4 axes, 1 sword, 1 bow, 1 spear, 1 baghnakh so far)
so we log in, run through coil, and log out for the week until the next reset... there's a colossal dearth of content in this game and I'd love to have a reason to log on more than i do.. there just isn't one.
so disregarding the price of the game itself and sub fee only, we're looking at $14.99 for 4 hours of entertainment a week
...that's about the same price/length as going to see a movie
i'd get more bang for my buck out of buying any run-of-the-mill game for $60 and spending more than 5 hours on it.. i did that in a day on skyrim when it came out
p.s. i do realize i'm a tiny tiny subset of their subscriber base, an extreme minority and all that.. but the people i've gamed with for the past 10 years are powergamers.. and i'm fully aware we're not the target audience
still.. claiming that noone is justified to be angry over a lack of content isn't accurate.
The analogies don't apply because none of those entertainment options are designed to bind like MMOs.
Most of the complaints are about limitations that are designed to prolong the time we spend on this game, or to fragment that time to prolong the subscription. While other forms of entertainment often give incentives to keep subscribing (e.g. get a free movie for X movies rented etc), this game puts in artificial limitations and bottlenecks in character progression (i.e. you can only watch 15 minutes of each movies you bought per day and never more than that, thank you for understanding).
Simple analogies like that and those calculations are absurd because the inherent design and background of these forms of entertainment are different.
Free to play mmos are even a better bargain, you don't even have to pay at all.
Just my 2 cents. But Final Fantasy has and always will be based around lore. There's lots of extra little things to do around the game. And don't rush your weekly raids so much. Slow down and hang out with friends.
2.1 just launched a few weeks ago, the thing that keeps MMO's alive is proper timing of content. You can't expect them to rush it, but you can't expect them to take forever either. They are just getting into the swing of things. Content will start releasing soon, and at the right pace to keep everyone happy. Just give it time. No MMO smashed everything out perfectly. I think every 2-3 weeks of demanding content is a little extreme =/
Most of all, show some damn respect people! It's ridiculous that you treat the development team so poorly. This is a game they work hard to make, they deal with SO many people and issues coming up. Your negative attitude is pathetic. If you treat them with respect, they will respect you back and value your opinions more.
Life lesson by Dalavon.
Well I'll be honest here, I am not rich, I pay for this game mainly because of the branding, so I am here expecting a lot for FFXIV.
I never thought about the money I spend in this game because I am having fun for the first and half month of release, but inevitably things gets dull as time goes by without new content, 2.1 was great but it took too long and I know why it took too long but this must be pre-emptively calculated and taken into consideration. Many friends left, many fc members quitted and with the coming of 2.1, its already too late because the game was way too incomplete at launch.
Seeing this post to remind me of the time I spend in this game proportional to the cost I paid is annoying as hell because I prefer if you can proof to me a proportional between cost vs expectation/contents in the game, then its more logical.
Let me honest here, the same old content from August till December with the amount of cost paid just to keep running the same old content, its a total betrayal of most people's expectations for the game.
Well that being said, this post has clearly helped to make up my mind.
Edit: I forgot to mention, me having experienced TERA and Dragon's Prophet which are free MMOs felt that they have as much content as FFXIV 2.0 had and even partially some content of FFXIV 2.1.
Gasp! You're just a hateful neckbeard that needs something to be angry about, you couldn't possibly care about the future viability of this game!
Sarcasm aside, the people that express their dissatisfaction aren't upset because they hate 14. They're upset because they can see the ugly mediocrity that this game is headed toward.
McDonalds is a service designed to cater to an individual per order, not a simultaneously shared order meant for hundreds of thousands of people.
A product damaged beyond functionality for an individual, a functional MMO for hundreds of thousands of people is not. Regardless: If your game disk was sold damaged, it would be your responsibility to replace under the vendor's return policy.
See above. Also: Terrible analogy is terrible.
Value is not necessarily the same as cost. but I digress.
All OP has demonstrated was that this MMO is cheaper than other forms of entertainment.
Because something is cheaper than some other thing doesn't mean that every single person who buys it will be satisfied with the product (you don't even know if they buy that other thing, too, or if they are satisfied with it).
PS: at some point in my life, I had very little money. Guess what? I played mmo and did little else precisely because it was a cheap form of entertainment.
I didn't buy or rent dvds. I hardly ever went to the cinema except when I had discounts or was invited. I didn't go to concerts or sports events (way too expensive).
Does that mean I had no right to be dissatisfied, just because I should have been happy that there was a service I could afford at all?
People need to value their money..
IDK if its 15 bucks a month for your time. you're also paying for time with other people... meaning "ITS MY MONEY ILL PLAY HOW I WANT" is crap.
does anyone actually read the tos?
so if you deserve to be drowned in a bathtub, it should happen.
fanboys. fanboys everywhere lol. if u guys like it easy then defend this game all u want. because sooner or later you'll reach a point where everything is just stagnation. everyone right now wears the same gear, everyone can craft everything. there is no individuality in this game. nothing to be proud of because hey, so what if u had all ur classes to 50 in the first month. its not like u can gear them up past ilvl 70. and some might say, hey man, u can clear high level content with ilv70 gear duh. to what end? u dont get anything out of it. plus it locks out your main class that u want to gear.
and hey, u have all crafts and gathering to 50, but theres nothing to buy with the money apart from the absurdly priced housing. and what? some of the crafted materials are sold from npcs now? yayyyy!! we always wanted the majority of the crafted items to be worthless in the market. philo bonuses reduced crafted gear to almost nothing now.
in the end this multiclass armory system is pointless. because you're pretty much locked down to just 1 or 2 classes that u can really progress with. and thats just sad. if this game keeps heading towards this direction then, well. more of these "complaint/whine?qq" threads will pop up. because the fact is that this game needs a lot of things fixed otherwise i dont see a bright future for this game. SE needs to step it up
I admire your patience Dalavon, well if you have actually played since the release date, then I admire and respect you more for patience. Well firstly, I would prefer you don't tell people what to do to balance out their real life and gaming life, its very offensive. What if people only gets to hang out with friends in this game actually and seeing them quit one by one before the new content release while they try to keep convincing them to stay in the game because 2.1 is just around the corner but eventually the delay just diminised their hopes.
We don't rush the developers, we don't disrespect or treat them bad. We know from the developers point of view it was terribly difficult to keep this game up. But you are talking about Final Fantasy branding here and they bearing the name of Square Enix. In this world, perfectionist is not the way but when you are already holding up such reputation, you have no choice but to avoid major mistakes.
this is my 100th post, so probably I don't want to end it negatively. I still am grateful for SE to introduce this great game to me and I really did enjoyed the time playing this and only hope that SE is able to fix their momentum they always intended and keep moving forward and away from the dreaded delay of 2.0 to 2.1 transition. Looking forward to 2.2 but as for now its time to relieve my burnout time.
>my opinion is better than your opinion

psh, people whine in F2P mmos forums as if they're "paying customers" too.
It's much easier to dismiss customer issues as "whining" than actually address the issues they have.
It worked well for 1.0....
I read this threads title as, "I'm angry about people being angry."
Correction: they peed on the people who wanted FFXI 2.0, the people who thought FFXIV 1.23 would last forever, and the people who hate modern MMO design.
I've been here since 1.0 launched, like what we've gotten so far and look forward to seeing the game continue to grow as time passes.
Regardless of the product, if someone spends money on something, no matter how little, they will always feel entitled to complain about said product. If a company that sells that product has an official forum and expects feedback, they can't possibly expect it to always be positive. Don't let it get to you.
What they promised is complete garbage that need immediate hot fixes! I'm not talking about 2.0 but rather 1.0! 2.0 was heading in the right direction until 2.1 that was nothing but a 1999 Honda Civic with a fresh new coat of paint! Rehash of endgame content and crafting that became nothing but a Vanity class! I mean why put soo much depth in DOL/DOH and make it a 2nd class citizen? I know RMT is a problem but there will never be a way to rid them completely!
And oh yeah I spent 90.00 USD for my Collectors Edition of FFXIV, so I and everyone else have the right to complain/praise about the game!
