Clearly we just don't have the skill required to pay for a VPN.

Not worth arguing with it Aureliami. They are convinced it's 100% squares fault and refuse to acknowledge the entire internet that lies between them and the server, and how they effects their game.
This game's community is literally the worst I have ever seen. People bring up legitimate concerns, and then there will be page upon page of people just telling the OP it's their connection, or tell them they're not skilled enough, then will continue to spew a bunch of incorrect facts.
Fact of the matter is, this game's netcode REALLY needs to be fixed. Changing the polling rate from 0.3 to 0.1 in SOME instances is only a bandaid; and doesn't actually fix anything. People have varying connections with a varying amount of hops in between their computer and the server, and this can't be controlled. Having to pay for a VPN service just to have a slightly smoother playing experience is beyond absurd.
Other MMOs get around this problem by employing time stamps with every positional update (giving the server the information that it needs to determine a multitude of things, such as if it was actually possible for you to get out of that AOE, or if you're moving at a speed that's impossible - to stop movement hacking).
Instead we have a backwards system that was initially made to prevent hacking, which ironically made it easier.
White knights/fan boys will continue to enjoy the game, however the millions of potential customers will not. And it's unfortunate, because the game has incredible potential.
Actually, i had a launch one, it did red ring, got told it was my fault, and would cost $300 to fix. After a few months, it was discovered they had a failure rate of around 75% in launch consoles. This is a bad analogy.
I have no idea if their code is bad or what, but when i had AT&T DSL, no issues with lag or getting out things. Got Comcast cable, lag often, 90k often, etc. That alone makes me feel it's not all on their end, but somewhere in between.
I am sorry to say that you have not seen some of the other communties out there in the internet. I'm from Europe and I do not notice half the stuff people complain about. Many people like to blame SE for their own problems, and issues of getting out of aoes, or other similar related content.
No amount of shouting on forums, or bickering with others will change the fact that if Square Enix thought it was a major problem it would be fixed as soon as possible. Seeing them change the position update coding means that they are trying to please the community.
I will leave this thread with the best quote ever "If we could give people a magic hat that would create for them the exact RPG experience they'd always dreamed of, they'd complain about the colour of the hat.""
I have read the previous 10 pages, but it seems that nobody here played the game with 2 computers on the same room
I play With my Wife, she has her computer next to mine
We live in Montreal, we have 15-25 ms ping to servers. Its REALLY low
We have a cable internet connexion (videotron), wich uses Fiber optics to the building.
I have a good router and at home everything is cabled in ethernet (NOT Wireless).
Despite this a simple test can show the amount of server lag :
- connect the 2 accounts
- bring the 2 ccomputer screens next to each other
- move a character
- estimate the time it takes for the caracter to move on the other screen
results : between 1 and 2 seconds
I may take a video of this
Another exemple : when we ride on chocobo, on my screen I can see her chocobo right next to mine, but on her screen i am WELL behind her
Of course, it's not a problem... until you do PVP, or you are serious about dungeons.... which we are not for now.
We play MMO for years and it's the first time I see this issue.
Not remeber having this problem in Everquest, WoW, Rift, Darkfall, Fallen Earth, SWTOR, or Neverwinter
But it's still a great game, and i am happy to play it !
Yea that happens all the time but it's not a game play issue it's a purely ascetic thing. By that I mean that all stuff on your screen, as far as aoe's, are right for you(assuming you don't have massive lag from bad hops) but it keeps other players from warping around on your screen unless they or you are experiencing some really rediculus lag. It's there to keep the game looking really smooth even when you get a tiny spike now and then.
First guess:
One Server handling one player after another, if both Computer have same distance to server and starting to run at same time, the server still have to handle one after the other! So the one who had the luck to be "noticed" faster starts faster too on the screen... The same Computer is not always faster, so that means the difference you actually see can double in worst case!
This one's rather easy, actually.
One of the first algorithms game developers came up with to tackle lag and desync was based on calculated "prediction".
The fact that you can see different player positions on different screens simply means that SE never bothered to implement it, and made a mess of the whole sync.
On a side note, this also means that Chocobo Racing (if ever implemented) will be downright horrid - every other racer will have crossed the finish line at a different time, resulting in endless "I won, but server announced another as a winner" threads.
I have noticed that moving at all times helps with positioning and also doing a party finder group and people on your server also helps with the issue significantly... I am still struggling to beat titan but not because of a lag issue as much as a finding 8 people that are good enough to down titan issue...
Why do you think finding 8 people to down titan is such an issue? People get hit by Weight of the Land and Landslide over, and over, and over and over despite the fact that the mechanic comes at the exact same time on every attempt. I laugh that people think that a small percent of people have this issue. How many times have I been in a group that can't complete Titan EX or even titan HM because of people who get hit by weights and then scream "BUT I WAS OUT OF IT!"
I had no problems before 2.1. Ever since, I've had weird intermittent lag issues.
My roommate plays this game, also, on the same connection. He has no problems.
That's how I do it in HM. But on EM, moving all time on that tiny arena would get others killed. So I have to rely on a 6th sense to know when to start running, because if I wait until they appear, I'm dead. I might endure it because I love Final Fantasy that much, but I wonder how many others will.
And my connection with the servers are good to the point where using WTFast made zero difference. And I did the leatrix (?) latency fix.
I guess I should play with a clock at my side and count the ticks between each move...
I'm on the same server, I have ZERO problems unless something is going on with my connection. Online gaming isn't about up speed or downspeed, it's about Latency, which you sir... Seem to have a truckload of.
I personally play on the American servers from Australia and while latency can be an issue, if I am fully focused I can dodge everything on EM Titan off reaction alone. My strongest advice to OP is to use a VPN, I personally use WTFast which offers a 30 day free trial. Give it a shot.
The 1st clip was obviously a lag spike which was made pretty obvious that your cast bar didn't stop while you were moving, that's most likely on your ISP. The second one was your own stupidity (kinda) Jumping is a known way to fuck up your positioning, thats why its abused in pvp so much. Don't jump, won't get hit.
I see the exact same thing on my screen as the OP and sometimes dodge a little bit later and still get out. It's a netcode issue for certain players and unfortunately, people have to play based on their personal lag and pre-move. My friend on satellite has ridiculous ms to the server so he has to pre dodge everything to survive.
I also jump all the time while dodging Landslides & Weight of the Land (boredom) and don't get hit. Didn't know that issue affected people.
Being an Australian player, i've been used to lag across all mmo's except swtor (when they actually had oce servers)
And playing ff14, it has been a nice change, having lower ping on the JP servers than i typically get on the NA/EU ones.
Also i've found quite a significant difference since 2.1 and have had less issues when dodging aoes. gg square
Looks like lag spike to me.
Did some titan runs today, I could make a collage of all the "oh no, lag spike" spam from people. In fact, I think that would be a fun project if it weren't so sad.
Speaking as a player that's cleared all the extremes several times, I've actually noticed random lag spikes as well. Something is up after the recent patch-- I never had rubberbanding issues before (like ever) but it started to happen a lot in pvp and the extremes. Coil seemed alright this week (cleared turn 5 without spikes) but I did notice some weird visual lag at random intervals when we were doing the primals afterward. It occasionally got me killed.
I'm sure 99% of the time people claim a lag spike, they just messed up. But-- at least lately-- there's something strange going on with visual lag in the game. And I'm in the U.S, NY, with Verizon Fios.
That's on PC. Imagine what PS3 users have to deal with. Btw I noticed that it was in French so maybe their ping is not up to par, hence the latency? but yea it really is bad at times.
He lives In Quebec, Canada. People speaks French in america too (just like people in brazil who speaks portuguese instead of spanish)
And the servers are located in Montreal, Quebec, Canada. So he is even probably closer to the servers than most people.
I live maybe 1 km away from the servers, i get 15-25 ms of ping, wich is really good.
But as a tank, I had the same issue as OP on Brayflox's_Longstop, at the dragon Aiatar.
I get out or the AOE he does in front of him, but it still get hit.
With trial and errors, I have found a "solution" : continue to run even if i'm out of the red Area. It's a bit of a mess because he can then move, but it's the best solution I have found so far.
yours might have gotten worse but mine has gotten a lot better, from Denmark ^^
react timely and dodge sandtraps by a mile -> get killed
react slowly and barely dodge sandtraps -> don't get hit
