With the recent seasonal event, there's a few inter-racial desires going around some NPCs.
There's quite a bit of midlander/miqo'te romances (for eaxmple: alchemy quests, the Gridania Valentione's day quest) going about if you pay attention to the NPC bubbles.
Also I read from another topic that there was a thing going on with a seawolf lady and a midlander male and they were "trutting like rabbits". I don't know if it's been deleted or if it never existed, 'cause I've been searching for it high and low.
There's also a midlander flirting with a female seawolf and midlander in Camp Bronzelake and asking for a "midnight dip". And in Wineport there's a male seawolf praising the beauty of a female midlander.
And about the Sunseekers... I would imagine some of them would like to "get it on" more than once every few months with the nunh. I mean... there's a lot of female miqo'te NPCs and I've encountered about 5 male miqo'te NPCs.
Given the rather cosmopolitan atmosphere in the three city-states of Eorzia it seems pretty common for their to be cross-specie romances. Whether these unions produce children or not is unknown as far as I know but the morphology of the species seems pretty similar to a human/hyur that the mechanics of sex and child birth are probably pretty similar across the various species that make up the city-state populations, excluding the occasional beastman.
There does not seem to be any stigma to such unions or dalliances so we can assume that these kinds of relationships have been happening for some time now and says much about the rather open nature of Eorzia society. It's a melting pot.
This confident Sea Wolf warrior certainly knows her way around. The things I did for her...
(No seriously, the quests you get from her are... yeah, she's GOOD. If you've done the sidequests for her and paid attention to her dialogue... hnnngh.)

And I really want one of those bandannas as a souvenir. Mostly because that "Red Swallow" crest looks suspiciously like a Mandalorian emblem :)
So every time I see something that seems relevant I've been taking SShots for this thread; here's a few.
First a couple of kids:

Now some delicious conversations:

I'lll post some more later. Also if you cant read the text blow up the image at its source. Like all my SShots, they're pretty huge and the forum's resize them.
These two are casually caring, or so it would seem. In Wineport. The midlander is a bit worse for his wine-love.

I read through (most) of the first five pages, the other five got a little tl:dr...
This is all entirely IMO...
I remember (once upon a time) googling how cats mated. The tom-cat'spenisis barbed, which causes pain for the girl when he pulls out. This stimulates her to ovulate, which explains why cats never have periods, like dogs and humans do (totally not suggesting they can cross-breed).
What does this mean? Well, maybe Miqo'te men and women are similar? Which can also explain why there are so many Miqo'te prostitutes, and are able to get away with it (as in, not having kids), because only a male Miqo'te can 'stimulate' the female to ovulate(unless someone has invented a way...).
For Lalafells... They're just too small. A male Roe and a fem Lala? Honestly, how will that work? If it were a male Lala, there'd really be only one getting anorgyoutta that, unless he had is entire lower half in her. If that produces a kid... I'd be scared.
All in all, I can only see Hyurs, Elezen and Roegadyn being able to cross-breed. The Miqo'te and Lalafells keeping to their own.
As far as the half'n'half kids being rare, I agree that it is a cultural thing. Look at America. There's pretty much every culture in the world there, and how many do you see intermingling and making babies? It's probably a lot more common in America, but it's still not that common.
Hyurs and Elezen founded Gridania. I'm sure a handful did make human/elf babies, but it's not common enough that Hyurs and Elezen "purebreds" became minority.
Infertility? A good possibility. Male mules (horse + donkey) are sterile and something like 5% of the female mules can reproduce.
I'd also like to remind you that Lala's aren't children or babies so the size of their packages theoretically could be the same range as any other of the races if that is how they procreate. They seem to be mammals but since all the races aren't real there isn't all the much info on how the races work biologically; especially with magic and alchemy existing how it does in this universe.
From what I'm aware, the only instance of an actual child lalafell being shown in FFXIV was back in 1.0 during one of the GLA class quests, in an Echo scene, one of the npcs (a lalafell) in the scene is labelled 'Familiar Child' in his nameplate, hinting that the child in question was the person whose memories the player was viewing, and the lalafell looked pretty much the same as he did as an adult, other than a slightly different hairstyle and change of clothes.
So from that scene, I guess lalafell must reach their limit of physical maturity pretty quickly and then no longer 'age' physically.
There is a child lalafell (or at least labeled as such) during one of the Ul'dah storyline quests. I think I have a screenshot somewhere, I'll have to see if I can upload it later, but I don't recall them looking that different than a fully grown lalafell, at least not compared to the child tarutarus back in XI.
I thought the lalafell grew in the ground like radishes and the only reason you don't see child lalafells is that they haven't been pulled up yet. 0_o
And don't the Miqo'te reproduce by mitosis? Thats was why so many of us look the same.
And Elezen are carved from tree trunks and their hairstyle tells you what type of tree.
Just a point by ridiculous example that assumptions of Earth biology don't necessarily apply.
ie, what she/he/cute-little-radish said.
Yeah, the one I mentioned was pretty much the same, as can be seen here from these 1.0 screenshots:
'Child version' seen through the Echo:

http://i581.photobucket.com/albums/s...psae1ac6da.jpg
And his adult form for comparison:

So yeah, from those screenshots it's easy to see that lalafell really don't seem to age all that much - even elderly lalafell still look pretty much like they did when they were kids.
Lumei is Female yes.
Perhaps Lala reproduce by laying eggs inside of the other races and devouring their way out. :>
Lalafells give birth in clusters. When they are born, they look like baby kangaroos. Normally in clusters of 3 to 5. After that, they are fed with gils and tears of other races.
They mature quickly, the more gils and tears, the faster they grow.
The reason you see the male and females looking for other races is due to this fact, they need to collect the tears of heartbroken souls.
I love what this thread's conversation evolved into xD
And just FYI, I can be used for snu-snu :P
I think it could be possible for them to make a mixed species like what occured in FFXI. Lilisette from there always comes to mind, mixed with both Hume and Elvaan, she was really pretty. All we have ATM would be F'lhaminn who is umconfirmed as being mixed but most agree.. If she was intended for this, then I wish they would have defined the mix even more like Lilisette.
Man... I remember a post from a long time ago that I cannot for the life of me FIND again
But it states that cross-breeds exist, but they are born of the race of one of the two parents. Although, of course, rumor without proof is worth nothing, and I cannot find this proof of mine, so take that as you will.
I shall add my personal thoughts... I think that any of the races could have sex with the others so long as they're careful and creative about it. However, crossbreeding depends heavily on the genetic makeup of the two races. For example, a Hyur and an Elezen could have a child, but a Hyur and a Miqo'te cannot.
Something like "sex" is a very possible concept. On the other hand the actual breeding might not be possibility due to simple genetic reasons.
Of course this is all speculation, as especially Hyurs, Elezens and Miqo'tes are very alike with each other. Which could indicate having almost identical genetic structure.
SE did confirm/canon that the races -can- have "mixed" kids.
My only beef with that is, how do you make a half Lala, half anything else?
@ Ramira; Hyurs, Elezen and Miqo'te are that alike to you?
I find Roegadyns more closely resemble Hyurs and Elezen than Miqo'te do.
(Highlanders are about the size/build to be mistaken as Roegadyns, and this can be used derivatively among Midlanders... or other races...?)
It's the (shape and location of) ears and the tail that I don't think Miqo'te are that genetically close to any other race.
Between Hyurs, Elezen and Roegadyns, there's just the body size, some portion differences, and the pointy/roundy-ness of the ears.
(Everything in this post is IMO, and just my 'two cents'.)
Silly thought here...
Lalafells maybe evolved from Meerkats or hamsters?
Actually, I've wondered if Miqo'te and Roegadyn might not be distantly related...As different as they are in general size and shape, there's something very 'catty' about Roe facial features.
Well if it is true that the different races can produce offspring with each other (thus proving they are indeed different races of the same species), then the fact that certain races show a lack in population and genders must mean there is some underlying genetic function at work preventing it, such as with male miqo'te. Otherwise a female miqo'te could reproduce with males of other species (or vice versa) to increase the male population. So, in a way, we have to assume with miqo'te that the Y chromosome doesn't pair well with the X, and only happens rarely, and underlying genetic fault within the race regardless of their partner's race.
Interracial romance? I got the original for you right here: http://youtu.be/NJT55T_nqss?t=1m31s
I ship it. And I am not ashamed.
(I started it at a cute point but if you dial the time back a little you can see how elated she is when she jumps into his arms. Nuff said.)
One of the reason I changed to Lala right here. Just seeing her sit on his biceps was so adorable.
Edit: I just rewound that to the beginning, that Raubhan fight was amazing. I didn't get to play 1.0 so I always wondered if the coliseum ever actually got used outside of being a set piece. We need more of this.

Couldn't help myself.
Actually they talked about this way back before launch, saying that although it -IS- possible for a half-breed child to be born it would be EXTREEMELY rare.
SOUND THE ALARUM, HE HAS ESCAPED FROM GENERAL DISCUSSION!
That wasnt a troll comment though so /shrug.
