Just cause it's free doesn't mean it's worthwhile.
I'm sure there are plenty of analogies in the real world that apply.

Dude what you've said here is exactly how i feel.
For some reason i get the feeling that even after taking so long and hyping this 1.18 patch up sooo its gonna be a big let down and too little to late.
Ppl are asking about what classes will be added but you probably wont see any of that any time soon and i'm pretty sure thinking 1.18 will add anything in terms of classes is just lying to your self.
I have a bad feeling that 1.18 is gonna be a complete bust and a fail that will make alot leave or if like me that has already stop playing , not come back.
Another great statment but with this one SE has seemed to be very adament about not giving its players straight answers or letting them know that patience will be rewarded. Not a good look SE
All we have gotten is "well look into it" & "More info to come" and that vague info that is tossed at us once every 2-3 weeks is so very very vague that it just makes ppl give up.
It almost seems as if they are trying to make players quite, If so they are doing it the right way.
If not man the whole company and everyone involved in this project is clueless.
I dont mean to offend anyone but not giving the fans clear straight arrow info is the wrong way to go.
I hope 1.18 delivers and people start returning, I'm running out of people to take gil off. Erm, I mean customers.
I dunno, since moving to a very casual approach I find myself enjoying the game more. Not "willing to pay monthly" enjoying, but making the best of the situation. I don't play it enough to get too burnt out and I can abuse my amina & guardians favor when I do play. Since it's free and there isn't much else I'm dying to play I'll still keep it installed and check on it at the very least. And start playing more often if the updates are good and continue to be good.
I don't think it's make or break. FFXIV is an installment in their flagship product; to let it 'fail' would be far more of a black mark on their record than FFXIV's launch state is currently. I'm fairly certain they would pump half their resources into the game before even considering shutting it down.
I don't know what the Final Straw is, but I'm a Gamer. As a Gamer I will wait for games to release, play them and have a my impression of it, as well for gaming updates and those beautiful things.
I hope I got the idea of the straw, but I think that there'll never be a Final Straw for me, as for now I'm interested in this game so much that only its death can stop my interest.
I'll wait for the update. Will I like it?
Yes: keep playing everyday
No: keep playing everyday waiting other updates.
So it always involves to "keep playing everyday", which means it's nearly 4 AM here and I'm talking too much bullcrap =D
They are kicking a dead horse putting dev time into this game. They should scap it, and sell the rights to Final Fantasy to a better game developer. The only thing that SE has done to the Final Fantasy franchise's goodwill is destroy it. Every year that they hold on to it, the worse it becomes.
I am worried about Deus Ex turning out to be a pos since SE is working on it. I just pray that they are only doing the graphics for the game and that Eidos is doing EVERYTHING else. I was going to pre-order the game, but I will not purchase it until there is a strong concensus on the game's enjoyability on metacritic.
I'm giving it 'til PS3 release...I've pretty much reached the final straw, I don't play the game much anymore, I hang around the forums to see if it'll ever turn into something good however. End of summer is do or die. I'm thinking die.
Im just waiting until ArcheAge or Blade and Soul to come out. There's no point disinheriting FFXIV just yet if I have no replacement MMO for it.
I think most people that play now will leave if new MMOs start coming out. They will probably still linger around until such a time as that, though.
I haven't played much since the last patch. Everytime I log on I just /sigh and then close out because I remember how boring everything is.
Waiting for 1.18 to see if it's worth playing by then.
I couldn't disagree more. The FF series has been getting better over the past five years or so with the exception of XIV. I was worried XII would be my last FF game after playing the awful game that was X some years prior but SE surprised me and put out a game that was almost on par with FFVII. Then they went and did the same with XIII. The next FF game should take the best from XII and XIII and produce the best FF game ever. I have high hopes for XV, let's see if they can deliver.
I don't know about you but i have heard nothing about a Final Fantasy XV, keep in mind the two new FF's are FF XIII-2 and FF XIII Versus.
There seems to be a pretty consistent correlation between old school FF player and the newer FF player's when it comes to the quality of FF games.
What i have heard:
Old School: FF6, FF7, and FF10 being best; FF12, FF13 very poor.
New School: FF12 and FF13 are done right; FF7 and FF10 are immortalized as best but are actually poorly done.
Personally being a old school FF fan and growing up on FFIV, id say FF XII and FF XIII are absolute gaming diarrhea.
EDIT: none of these above opinions are backed by actual statistics of known facts this is just from my experiences.
Then I enjoy diarrhea quite a bit...in fact I take colonoscopy pills just to get my bowel movements rollings because I love diarrhea that much.Quote:

Lol Its all good I didn't mean anything by what I said, I understand people like different games but to me personally I joined the FF roller coaster at FFX and absolutely loved it and FFXIV is the first game in the series since then (including VII, VIII and IX) that I've had ill feelings towards. I don't think SE is slipping here, I do think however that they need to stop expanding horizontally and start expanding vertically...instead of working on a 100 projects at a time, work on a few and make them amazing.
FFXII was praised by almost every single gaming source >.> Just an FYI.
Actually with all due respect, with regards to FFXII I think the fans said it all (gamespot alone): http://www.gamespot.com/ps2/rpg/fina...lt%3Btitle%3B0
21,989 votes averaged the game at 9.1/10...that makes it a success.
Not to mention 73 critics averaged it at 9.1 too.
It tells you that being an FF is stiff competition gamewise. FXII was pretty good, if this game had half the content of fxii it would be getting praised for content.
Im not saying its the best FF ever, but really it was pretty big, had marks, summon battles, hidden in far off dungeons, a pretty large world, enemies that interacted with each other. epic fights, a ton of bosses, i think if this game had that stuff, no one would be complaining about it.
Those weren't sales numbers, they were vote numbers. FFX sold more sure because it was the first FF for the "next gen console" at the time. FFXII was probably a more complete game, I'd say FFX had the better story though.
I grew up with FFVII, it was the first FF released in the UK and I'm the biggest Sephy fanboy ever. :o I believe VII and VIII were very well done with the former being the better of the two, then the series took a dive with IX and X. Then along comes XII. I finished XII before X and I bought them both on release day, despite there being a five year gap between them. When I can't even be bothered to finish a game in a reasonable time there's something wrong.
I don't even compare the spinoffs (Tactics was awesome however), sequels (X-2 looked so awful I didn't purchase it) or online games with the rest so XV will be the next title I'll use for comparison. Sure it hasn't been announced but we all know it will come with about 99.9% certainty.
i dont play ff14 right now. playing aion 2.5 but i will prabably come back for 1.18 and see if its good or not.
XII would've been much better had they let the director stay. The first half was awesome.
