I really don't see a problem with the maintenance. I didn't want to blinding disagree though so I tallied up the maintenance's from 9/29-11/4. Here are my results:

All Server/Na/EU only Maintenance ~10pm-3am: 7
All Server/NA/EU Only Maintenance ~12am-2pm: 3
Japanese Data Centers Only/Extensions ~2pm-4pm: 4
Maintenance for 3 worlds on 10/10/13: 1
Extensions of All/NA/EU Maintenance: 6
Playstation Network Maintenance: 3
Playspan Maintenance: 1
Loadstone/Forum Maintenance/Extensions: 13

In the last 37 days 7 days(19%) had maintenance during the end of prime time in the PDT time zone. That approximately comes to maintenance every 5.28 days. Please note however that 4 of these "prime time" maintenance's didn't start till 11pm PDT; which, arguably, is out of the prime time and no earlier than midnight in any other time zone.

I'm still not seeing the problem. Sure it sucks when maintenance lands during your playtime. As an east coaster who, in the past, worked a lot of evening shifts, making games with early PDT maintenance's fall in my playtime, I can relate. However, it generally only effects people that play late night in the PDT. It's pretty isolated.

You are not understanding the actual issue. People are not irked by the time frame of the recent maintenances but the frequency. Going off your data, and just for NA/EU game server down time, the game has had maintenance 10 times in the past 37 days. Basically every three to four days the servers are down for unknown causes.

In what world is that satisfactory service?

How many times has that actually been an emergency, game is broken, major exploit needs to stop issue? Or, have most of those been scheduled 24-48 hours ahead of time making them just a normal maintenance that could probably be done once a week?

There's been a simple solution offered several times. I'm sorry if you didn't get it.

Do weekly maintenance once a week like practically every other MMO on the market. If it really is an emergency maintenance the servers should be going down now, not after a 24h notice. Emergencies are unavoidable and you have to live with them, but you can't schedule an emergency. If the issue is okay to stay live for the next one or two days then it's also okay to stay live for the next four days until your next normal maintenance window.

1. For actual emergencies bring the servers down and then up again as soon as possible. People are going to be annoyed no matter what you do anyway....
2. For everything else not deemed urgent, roll it into regular maintenance (Tuesdays).

For the record, I expected this and am expecting it for at least another couple of months. What I wasn't expecting was SE would pick such unusual timings. 1800-2000GMT would put it at early morning Japan Time, mid morning for most Oceanic players and early afternoon for NA customers, Hardly what I'd consider prime time.

What's going on? They said in this one tonight its for overcrowded issues. I haven't seen that problem since EA...

Can you filter out all the maintenances that have nothing to do with game servers at least?

People are in this much of an outrage with 24hours notice, could you imagine the uproar with an hours notice?

Besides that, Looking at that one screenshot of maintenance's, i see a lot of those are either followup or PS3 specific, or they are planned maintenance's. the odd emergency maintenance isnt really that bad. Are you honestly suggesting they are labeling a maintence that isnt urgent as an emergency? I don't think it is SE's preference to have this many service interruptions. Or do you think they do this "just cause"? I'm just confused as to what reasoning you think SE is using here. Not trying to be rude, just trying to understand.

People are not in an outrage because we are only given 24h notice. People are upset by the sheer volume of maintenance's that are taking place.

What is the emergency that has to wait 24-48 hours before they fix it? That's not an emergency. If the issue is okay to be live for 24-48 hours already, then it's probably okay to be live for a couple of more days and just have one weekly maintenance like every other MMO on the market.

SE has had 10 outages over the past 37 days for just the NA/EU data center (causing you to not be able to play). That's a maintenance very 3-4 days. How is that even remotely acceptable to anyone? F2P games have better up time, and still get issues fixed.

Sorry, I guess with me being casual, I have hardly been affected by the maint's. My prime time has been most weekdays from 9-midnight PST.

You may be right, Maybe these things could wait or can be identified and fixed within a few hours. I could be wrongly assuming that things might be more complicated than that.

Actually, the filtered list missed the maintenance on the 23rd, the 16th, and the 3rd, So we've had 9 maintenance sessions in the past 5 weeks. Not complaining but I can understand how it can start to get on people's nerves.

Hell lets turn the servers off every Monday ... wait but what do we do tomorrow when people who couldn't play today all try to cap? Do we start turning servers offline from 4PM - 12AM? That would reduce 'stress'

If the servers are so over 'stressed' maybe they shouldn't oversubscribe resources so much.

To reiterate for all the white knights who are missing the point - its not the fact maintenance is occurring people are getting frustrated with it the frequency and lack of consistency behind it. It doesn't matter how much notice we are given, it does not matter where it is posted, the problem is the increased frequency and lack of consistency behind it.

If you are required to do weekly maintenance no one has any problems with that just pick a standard time and use this existing window to do other work if required. These daily / every other day maintenance are getting old quite fast. If there were bugs being fixed or qualities of life being increased just let us know what they are, this will eliminate a large number of your complaints. If you don't have to release trade secrets or plans from the STF which people get and understand you can be as vague as 'Combat RMT Initiatives' or 'Fix client / server exploit' but when it's 'were take the game down for 4 hrs and you wont notice any difference before or after' this only exasperates the frustration players feel.

There was another thread not unlike this one where they felt they weren't paying for maintenances. I wholly disagree, I'd be mad if they weren't using my money to maintain the game. The fact that they even have these maintenances means someone found something wrong and they're fixing it. I don't get the backlash. As has been said many, many times, someone somewhere isn't going to be able to play for the duration of the maintenance. Today it just happens to be you. Find something to pass the time, it's just a few hours. You'll live.

It ultimately doesn't irk me enough to cancel my sub today. I can absolutely understand anyone who is annoyed by it though. If the pattern continues however, I'll probably follow that path eventually.

All I know is that one more week like this one with (what five now?) so many maintenance sessions and I won't be re-subscribing. I understand that maintenance is a must for any solid MMO but having maintenance so frequently while fixing... nothing, is irritating. I highly doubt these downtimes have been urgent EVERY single time they took the servers down.

It's almost up to a 24 hours down time in the past week and for people like me who mainly play late at night, are barely getting any play time in at all with these frequent maintenances. I'm glad they're fixing problems but I'm disappointed they're draining my play time and money instead of lumping all their problems into one maintenance and giving us a reasonable warning.

I dont get why some people get upset when we post about constant maintenance. Do they work for SE or something? The post is clearly titled Maintenance. If you don't like it, don't come in and read. Any complaints help make the game better if SE listens. Unless they completely dont care what people want.

I don't mind maintenance, but I do mind it when they put it right smack in the middle of prime gameplay hours for me. Which they do, frequently. If they'd put it at the opposite end of the day, in the morning when everyone's going to work or school, that would be golden. But alas the world isn't perfect. Or on the same time frame.
