Great job !
I do hope they will read and understand.
Because they've failed hard on so many easy and obvious topics at start, how will they manage to catch up with all the work that needs to be done.

Yea, I did forget about that. FFX didn't take the traditional path either, they only used Fire, Water, Lightning, and Ice. So, elements that didn't necessarily make sense had to oppose other elements. Thunder < - > Water and Fire < - > Ice. Dark < -> Light makes sense, as does Light < - > Dark.
Sorry about the late response, trying to abuse Emulate as much as possible before it gets nerfed lol.
I've decided that I would continue this list and make regular updates. As of now, I've been maintaining a list and posting it to my Lodestone, but it was pretty much whenever I found the time or decided there was a good amount of changes to be added that should be published.
I might make regular updates within a weeks time after each significant patch (not after patches like 1.15b). I think also pictures are a great way to communicate an idea/change/suggestion. I'm open to anymore suggestions anyone might have, bugs, balance changes, statistical-graphical information, etc. I'll consider pretty much anything to incorporate into the list.
Read every page, good job on it.
Page 42 was a good read
I'm totally bumping this over time
This is an amazing job Keft! I /salute your effort and hopefully this will be read and considered by the dev team. Too many good points to point to just a few, but a very good read and I suggest everyone who plays the game to take a look.
Great post. I checked to make sure my main issue was addressed and it was.
I hate the controls and want to use the arrow keys for the camera like in FFXI. Even though FFXIV didn't let me, I just set them to read IJKL as the arrow keys and did it that way anyway. It wasn't perfect because the game wasn't meant to work that way, but I was able to manage with it.
In this latest update it basically messed up all my controls. Now I hear the constant "YOU CAN'T CLICK ON THAT!!!!!" sound while I'm moving my camera around, or it suddenly changes what I can click on. It's a real nuisance and I have to admit... I wouldn't pay to play until these controls are a least fixed. I don't understand why they keep messing with the arrows like that instead of just letting us set them up how we want to. I went to fight for the first time since that change today and it was a huge added pain.
Being able to switch who we want to click on MIGHT be nice... If it was on some other button. Even then, I don't normally think, "I only want to click on Party members"...
So that's my absolute biggest pet peeve ingame right now.
As for the armory system, I like it. I don't want the nuisance of walking back to my mog house just to change classes. If I know how to cook, and I have a pot on me, why should I have to walk all the way back to a moogle and have the moogle tell me, "I now allow you to use your pot!" As if I've somehow forgotten to cook otherwise...
Personally, I think that's one of FFXIV's biggest improvements over FFXI. I don't see the advantage of making people walk more, or even how it makes more sense. Like I said - if someone knows how to use a spear, why do they have to go home to remember how to use it instead of just pulling it out? I can't even imagine how much worse crafting would be if that changed. I definitely don't want to run out to Bloodshore 3 times to do three different leves. And I don't really recall it making FFXI more enjoyable - if you want danger, there's always high level places. Walk to Mor Dhona; I saw plenty of danger there.
Really nice work, those are great suggestions.
A lot of suggested changes and agree with most of them.
Man if anyone could send this PDF to SE i think it would do miracles for the game's future... Any Moderators or Developers around? Please take a few minutes to read this... it is an excellent summary of all the complains we have since the early days of the game and as a bonus it tells you how to fix it! :D.
Reading through it does open your eyes to the sheer volume of things that need (and hopefully will) changing in the future, although of course some are far more important than others.
But uh, I'm going to say it. I like Roegadyn better than Galka. Sounds fancy.
EDIT: Though I will miss a good Galkan Sausage, le sigh.
That's the most Adult thing I 've heard anyone say about this in a long time. I just don't understand why no one else can come to that conclusion. If you don't like the game, don't play it......
If you liked FFxi's class system (etc) better....go play that instead, it's a fun game!
Because guess what folks?
[whispers] This isn't Final Fantasy 11....
Well thought out suggestions, I think it's great that the devs take these into consideration. Could make me switch back to FFXIV if a lot of progress is made.
I agree, I love having the ability to change on the fly. I wish it was a bit faster, same goes for macro swaps. Although the armory system is far from perfect and balanced, it boggles my mind how they could think about it so much, allowing the player to jump from 1 job to the next with ease, but then get caught up with making everything else in the game require 10x the actions just to get to wherever they need to get to.
Wow this is awesome! It's great to see people from the community as dedicated (as you clearly appear to be) to making the game better.
That's exactly IT though... the entire premise to FFXIV's battle system all along has been about getting rid of the class placement system. It's always been about the weapon defining the class.
P.S. First time I'll ever call something out for this, but I cannot be assed to read that .pdf file: tl;dr.
BUMP, KEFTENK YOU ARE AMAZING. I read through that took about an hour holy crap you hit everything that was on my mind, some stuff has been implemented. Love Praire Flower <3
Necro bumped lol.
This reminds me to update this list..
I'd like to see this updated with all the recent changes! ^~^
Yes, please! ^^ I love this list. Really well thought out, and really well put together. Thanks for all your work.
Incidentally, someone mentioned this list in another thread. (Link in text) That got me thinking about my own list of tweeks.
All are very minor. They're not game breaking bugs. The more important changes -- content and combat/UI improvements -- should absolutely come first. In fact, I'd still play if these suggestions were never implemented.
I've tried to only include items that I haven't seen elsewhere, including on your list. (Although I may have failed and mentioned some that were mentioned elsewhere.)
And while I'd love to PM them to you, I don't think that's an option. So I wanted to post them here, in case you wanted to consider some of them for your list. If this is a derail, I apologize. And I also apologize for the size. If you want me to delete it, just let me know and I'll edit it out.
Loot List:
1) In the Loot List, add "Take All" and "Trade All" buttons. When my loot list fills up, I'd like to be able to clean it out quickly. As it is, I have to click on each item individually, and then click on "Take," wait for the page to refresh, click on the next one, click on "Take," etc. x 10. This is especially annoying when I've got 10 of the same item, and it takes 20 clicks to take them. (See below)
2) In the Loot List, stack identical items. So if my Loot List contains 10 mole sinews, I can clear them out with two clicks instead of 20.
Retainer:
3) When you click on "Summon Retainer," get rid of the confirmation box asking "Do you want to summon your retainer?" You need a confirmation option when teleporting because once you do it, you lose anima. However, If I accidentally summon my retainer, I can back out with no penalty. So the confirmation box for summing a retainer is an annoyance, rather than a safeguard.
4) Combine the "Exchange items with your retainer" and "Add items to your retainer's bazaar" functions. If I choose "Add items to your retainer's bazaar," the first screen that opens is my retainer's inventory. Why can't we use that screen to drop stuff in the retainer's inventory?
Leves/Battle:
5) When I get attacked by a mob, it automatically targets the mob. But I still have to click “Enter” to bring up my battle actions (like attack or cure). I’m sure there’s a reason for this intermediate level of targeting, but I can’t figure out what it is. If I’m being attacked, I’d prefer to be able to counter-attack immediately without having to click to confirm that I want to target the mob that’s punching me in the face. We should at least have the option to have our battle buttons on screen at all time.
6) It would be nice to have all 3 rows of battle buttons on screen at all times, too. That way, we won't have to scroll up or down to get to the 2nd and 3rd rows.
7) When you get Raised, the “Do you want to accept the Raise” box should immediately pop up on your screen. Don’t make us look for an icon, and don’t make us go through the main menu. I’ve seen lots of people miss the icon, and return to camp because they didn’t notice that they’d been raised.
Crafting:
8) A bigger crafting window, so when an ability pops, you don't have to scroll down to see what it is and use it.
UI:
9) When I get a trade offer/teleport offer/party invite, an icon pops up on my screen. If I click on the icon, it opens the main menu, so I can click on the trade offer/teleport offer/party invite, which gives me the option to accept/refuse the offer. How about we cut out the middle step? Clicking on the icon opens up the offer, not the main menu.
Maps:
10) Put aetherytes on mission maps. When you open your journal and look at the map, it shows where you're supposed to go, but it doesn't show what crystals are nearby. So if I want to figure out where to go to kill a bunch of marmots -- or whatever -- I've got to go into my Journal, open up the mission card, open the mission map, and memorize the map coordinates. Then I've got to close out the map, close the mission card, close the Journal, open the main map, and figure out what aetheryte camps are near the map coordinates. It would be easier if all that information was on one map.
11) Similarly, put all the mission markers on the main map. It would be nice to be able to open my map and see what mission objectives are nearby. That way, if I'm at Camp Horizon, I can complete all the missions with objectives nearby without having to open 16 mission journals, then open 16 different maps, then look at the map location numbers, and open my main map to figure out how far away those objectives are. I mean, wouldn't it make sense for me -- as an adventurer -- to put all my locations on one map, rather than having 17 different maps?
12) If I'm in LL, and I want to look at a map of Camp Emerald Moss, when I'm done looking at the map, I've got to click on "Previous" three times before I can close the map. There should be a "Close Map" option on every screen.
@ OP
I flicked through your suggested changes, the ones I focused on should have been put in by any sound dev team that wasnt rushed. Nice list, this just highlights the logic SE lacked when (rush)releasing XIV and its general development ^^
*edit
also the fact you can make a coherant and on point list THIS long is tesitment to the poor direction and mangement of this game. (lol)
(gogo yoishi P!!)
infact on closer inspection there is almost nothing I can disagree with on that list. good job sir. I hope this can gets veiws from the devs >.>
This thread needs more likes and pages. (Click "First" page and "Like" the OP)
I too, did not have opposition to any changes proposed. Well, Shadowsear needs a SHORTER cooldown >.> But that's because it's the only nuke in the game (srsly).
Hrmmm....guess I'll make an updated one.
There has been a shit ton of ninja-edits by SE that they didn't put into patch notes, for instance, you can now Siphon MP all NMs. Before you couldn't.
Ninja Edits; Fun Fun.
Great Job. I hope the list can become more fulfilled with recent updates.
Perhaps a community collaborative effort could be in order.
Excellent stuff. You should be paid for this.
Great job. SE should take note and realize that somebody out there should be thinking about real GAME DESIGN rather than just ask us desperately what we want. We want a good game it takes good designers like the op to make them not public opinions!
If I could, I'd lock this thread. I updated the list as requested.
