What he meant is that everything on that list should be implemented by the end of the summer. So it will all be done for August/September.

The Japanese version also says basically "until summer 2011." He bolded it for emphasis for a reason.
The same debate popped up with this wording:
People, for some reason, believe it means something other than implementing the patch, which is why they changed it to:Quote:
At the following time, we will be performing maintenance on FINAL FANTASY XIV corresponding to the upcoming release of patch 1.16.
So until he corrects it, it's basically saying from now until summer they plan to pump out these changes.Quote:
t the following time, we will be performing maintenance on FINAL FANTASY XIV to implement patch 1.17b. During this period, FINAL FANTASY XIV will be unavailable.
"until summer 2011." That is going to bug me now, what does that even mean!
Overall, I am please with the letter. If everything gets implimented like it sounds (I say this as an optimist, not a pessimist), there will be so much depth to this game, just like a Final Fantasy should be.
With more to come. :)
I'll paraphase the whole letter:
Hello again, all fans of FINAL FANTASY XIV!
Please keep beta testing our game. Here are some things to keep you from quitting and playing something thats actually worth it.
*** vague changes ***
That is all
-Yoshi
It will happen it's just not a priority for now.
You have not jumped in years? Maybe it's time to get off that couch...Quote:

Lol ArcheAge beta in 4 days with over ten zones, 3 different species of customisable mounts, player housing, players cities, PvP, sieges, ability to grow your own crops, jump, climb, swim, hop, skip, dance, airships, naval combat...
and SE sits their trying to figure out if they should implement jump or not.
Just freaking implement something.
But then i wouldn't have anything to do when i'm bored here at work. It doesn't bother me that you don't care, but thanks for taking the time to quote me. It makes me feel all warm and special :).
I mean hell... i paid for this game, i can get some entertainment from reading the forums can't I?
Ooooh Happy Summer!!! oooh Happy Summer!!! Chocobos, Ifrit battle, Company Command centers ooh Happy summer!!!
But then its not interactive. Wheres the fun in that?
Really though, you aren't the least bit upset with the lack of anything happening with this game? We're getting close to a year, with other titles coming out getting good reviews... and all we get all letters saying "oh, yeah... we're going to change this!"...
How long can you guys be strung along?
SE listened to those nerd players who whining about they don't want jumping and all they do is sitting on their butt around Uldah everyday, crafting... while millions players already left the game
fine! enjoy making the game for nerd players, you might have 5000 subscribers even after PS3 released
Did you even read the letter? (Obviously you didn't.) Things are happening, and unlike other games that DON'T need foundational changes, they're doing what's needed for the game and it's clear you also haven't logged in since launch since every update they've been improving the game's foundation.
Yeah, i read the letter. And its vague. Yes they've been implement changes at a rabid snails pace. Did you forget that they already charged for a finish product but provided a beta? Go pickup your DVD and read what the game is supposed to be according to their advertising and get back to me.
Well it's cuz all there is to do now is sit on your butt and craft all day. SE had no choice but to listen to these people because as of now they are the voice of the community. Everyone else with a bit of common sense left a long time ago.
Maybe when the PS3 ver is released we will get some fresh air.
how about examination to release this game on iPhone and Facebook? it can be better than Farmville and have 1 million crafters pay for their service
I wouldn't count on the ps3 release saving this game anymore. Sure some people that wanted to play it but their systems couldn't run it will join... but anyone who actually cared probably followed and read about the game. And if they did that they probably gave up after the first 6 months of reading/watching people complain about the game.
zomg they are adding more types of mounts besides just chocobobobosss!? * hyperventilates*
How in the world is it vague? He's pretty much telling us what they're doing and what they're going to implement. It's funny that you're bitching about them charging us for a finish product, but you're giving them your money every month to play FFXI. How long til you move on? I bet never.
The most important thing to take from this letter
All of this should be coming by the end of summer(im believe summer officialy ends around september)
and ALOT of it should be coming in 1.18(such as the dungeons) and i bet 1.19 will have ifrit and the job system
also ignore the trolls guys, eva never has anything good to say, one of those chronicaly life hating people who needs therapy
I'm sure she meant SE making a flash game for FB and iphone ver of FFXIV's crafting. As stupid as you may think it sounds it could actually work well. Especially if it's somehow linked to the PC & PS3 game.
An IPhone app that let's you browse your inventory and let's you craft some special or bonus items that you can then pick up in-game.
I'm not sure which game it was but i think it was Skies of Arcadia on Dreamcast that you could use the VMU(memorycard/mini gaming console) to play a mini game and receive items in game from it.
If i were SE this is what i would do for sure.
I'm realy happy with the changes being implemented, and noticing its only til summer, I'm hoping the next letter froom the producer touches briefly on the post summer updates.
Why are people freaking out about jumping? The only fun thing about jumping, is jumping off of mountains and that breaks my already probably broken weapon -_-!
BEST LETTER THUS FAR YOSHI P YOU RULE! :)... I agree with all the changes great news.
There are still some naysayers out there, but I think, overall, the reception of this letter is fairly positive. I think we are finally starting to see some payoff from the extended planning and development phases of the newer Dev team and people are starting to get excited again. I see a lot of new names on the forums from people coming back to check on the state of the game.
I think it's hilarious how people..sorry, trolls, continue to say they "don't care about this game", but they're obviously keeping tabs on it. If I don't feel hopeful for a game, then I don't keep tabs on it. If I don't play a game anymore, I don't keep tabs on it. If I think a game is a "festering pile of crap", I'll stop playing, and then NOT keep tabs on it. You obviously care about the game, so stop acting like you don't, otherwise you wouldn't be bothered by thinking it is vague.
I, however, think this was the best LftP thus far. Also, I honestly think MOST of this stuff will be out before summer. He put "UNTIL SUMMER 2011" in bold twice for emphasis for a reason. What else have they been doing these last 5 months? These are changes that should already be done by now. I'm not saying they're going slow, just saying this is just the fruits of what we've been waiting for all along. The reason they are saying "looking into" most things is probably because they don't want to make anything definite before they release the patch notes, otherwise people go "OMG BUT YOU SAID THIIIIIIIIIS".
All that being said, I'm not going to get overly excited until I see some patch notes and know what he really meant, or until a Community Rep replies to confirm the timing.
