Didn't care to much for the last event, But the Pumpkin Heads are pretty awesome.
I find the current event underwhelming as well. The pumpkin heads are from 1.0, so new stuff includes the decor, the ghost piece (with 2 faces) and a short quest line. In total, I got 1 hour of enjoyment out of it (including waiting for the quest to unlock). Even the 1.0 event was better than that (with the imps asking you questions etc)
I had hoped for something which lasts longer. Modifications to the overworld, not just the cities, and / or incentives to leave the cities to do stuff somewhere else. But I consider this a minor event, and am hoping for the starlight event to be of a greater scale.
I love the FF world and lore, and I've got a community set up here so I'm kinda dedicated to XIV for now, but I'm not gonna lie... this is really starting to feel like a dated, under-funded MMO from the mid 2000's. With every passing day I start move a little farther from the "SE is gonna make this work!" camp into the "I just don't think SE gives a damn..." camp. I've seen more post-production effort put into F2P games like RO2 than I have in XIV. SE has planted a incredibly beautiful garden, but they're failing to water, weed, fertilize, and prune it.
Hmm...............
Could we get like a pet? Like a floating skull or pumpkin? Maybe a staff/item that gives us 10 free teleports?
I have to agree with Artemis here, totally phoned in.
since its Halloween and the game uses instance dungeons they could create 3 test of courage level 1 dungeons for players to either solo or party through with ghosts and goblins and witches to defeat on the way to the big boss we need to beat or some such thing. maybe an escort npc through it type of run or any number of possibilities.
the difficulty needs to be reasonably high while not being too hard and still fun to do with funny consumable rewards.
Kudos to the people who, despite being underwhelmed, posted suggestions for improvements and ideas for next year. I like the idea of low dungeons filled with creatures to run through - just a little difficult - with neat little things like a minion at the end. The questions from 1.0 would be a grand return too, or maybe a little scavenger hunt for novelty items.
It's all well and good to be underwhelmed. I am as well with these events. I LOVE the items, even with most of them being rehashed from 1.0. Items are the things I look forward to, even if they're silly little things like pumpkin heads. I come from FFXI too, and knowing their events and comparing them whether I mean to or not, well, I can see how people can be disappointed.
The best thing we can do is be constructive in our feedback. Not only by telling them exactly what we don't like and why, but also by suggesting what we might like to see. Sure, they may or may not listen, we don't know, but at least we made an effort.
I'm excited to get online and play it!
I'm in the camp of... Expect the event to be "underwhelming" until next year. Once they're not trying to get housing, a major raid and a PvP system up and running and all the attendant rewards and items that go along with them, they'll probably have more time and man power to devote to throw away content like events.
I just wanted to pipe in and say that so far I am really having fun with this event!
For me, it's not just the quest line or rewards. I'm enjoying the new music and really, really enjoying the decorations. I've been wandering around Limsa since I logged in tonight, going everywhere to see all the decorations.
We have batmobiles for heaven's sake ^^ Bat Mobiles :D
There's a giant pumpkin baking in the oven at the culinarian's guild, there's a pumpkin on top of where they hung Rokien on the Astalicia, there's bats and pumpkins on walls and floors, and there's little floating ghosts in the aetheryte crystal and reading the market boards.
I am having barrels of fun with this event! Thank you SE :D
I thought it was pretty cool. I would love some Halloween Treats that changed your appearance to a ghost or zombie or whatnot.
There is a lot of great ideas coming up. Personally I think think the core thing is like adding one or two events that are essentially repeatable and or somehow beneficial.
I.E. "Dailies"
So we can do something every day during helloween with a chance to win neat stuff.
My biggest scowl is the lvl15 requirement, and the part requiring that you visit other cities. Why? I like to take the game slowly, I'm still level 4, I want to take my time with missions. Why force me to burn through main scenario to unlock airship so I can actually leave Limsa, only to go /clap at an npc in gridania or pick up some cookies from the floor?
It's already irritating that Limsa Lominsa is isolated until you get the airship pass (there is a ferry, but it will stay locked until you get the airship pass), but I coped with it. Why now instead I must be level 15 for an event that requires no skill at all, nor has rewards that require an higher level to equip?
I don't expect anything to be done about it, but I'd rather if the next events sticked to level 1, or like the summer event, had multiple versions of the event to suit all levels.
AND seriously, let me use that damn ferry. Lv1 players from Gridania and Ul'dah can visit one another at any time, so why can't I?
Pff I don't like these events in games, except if the timeline is contemporary of our real world like in The Secret World.
I can't see the link between Halloween and Eorzea or the Middle Earth.
You'll see, in December, SE will do like if the Christ was known in Eorzea.
/sigh
I'd really love to see an Endgame primal trial style battle against the Great Gourd.
You do know that Christmas wasn't born as the celebration of Christ's birth, right? It was originally celebrating the Winter Solstice. The Church later on claimed the son of God to have been born the 25th December, merely because they wanted to impose religion over pagan festivities.
Seasonal events are never their strongest point.
That said though, I still enjoyed the event last evening, the ghost costumes are quite nice and I really like the decorations around the towns!
One thing I do hope for in the future would be allowing us to decorate our yards with seasonal event decorations, perhaps even have a contest once housing is released :)
The only kind of seasonal event I've seen that players like are the kind that gives you easy loot for minimal effort. Cosmetic stuff just aren't enough to impress players unless the ghost costume also lets you shoot lasers from your eyes (and preferably do damage to enemies), and if you give people really cool cosmetic stuff on seasonal events, that makes it hard to have other cool cosemetic stuff elsewhere. If the swimsuit event lets you get your characters totally naked, that will probably be super popular, but then where do you go from there?
Frankly this event matched my expectations almost exactly. Why do I need a huge blow-out of developer and design effort for a rl holiday when I'd much prefer the 2.1 patch on time and on "budget"? It was cute, I got a chuckle, the decorations are fantastic. I'm glad they wanted to do something "fun" but this really was enough.
Edit: And they just announced on the Live Letter that there's actually going to be more events for All Saint's Wake before it ends, too.
Everyone is soo impatient.
There will be more coming soon, the event takes place for 2 weeks Oct. 18th - Nov. 1st.Quote:

I've been thinking alot about what they could do for next Halloween. So far it involves parties boarding a ghost ship that takes them to a spooky island. After fighting your way through a large graveyard, you'd get a chance to fight Diabolos. Drops would be tokens you could trade for mostly cosmetic armor and/or weapons like pitchforks and skull-shapped helmets.
This. Completely this. If SE was producing these amazing, detailed fluff events while leaving exploits, bugs, balance issues in place etc I'd be angry. You can have your amazing fluff events a year from now (sidenote: I love the holiday events, they do add fun variety to the game) when the bugs are smoothed out and there's a range of regular content in place. If they pushed back CT a month just because they decided to produce a Halloween dungeon I'd be more than a little worried about the long term development plan.
Well it is true that are underwhelming.
I didn't love them, and i would like to compare them to those of FF11 which are really great.
not just Yule but other winter holidays following around that time as well
http://www.history.com/topics/christmas
and just to let you know those pagan festivals were religious holidays as well ~_^
Then an other religion having for god a bottle with a brown but powerful against rust containing, arrived and changed again the way we live the Solstice d'Hiver..
But it didn't work that good for Halloween which has a very small impact in my country where we have la Toussaint, catholic, who replaced Samain, the opening of the first month, Samonios, of the new year. But anyway it has nothing to see with Eorzea, nor our ancient gods, nor the catholic religion, nor a beverage from Atlanta or a pumpkin from south america who strangely finished to symbolize an event mostly celebrated by the anglo-saxons.
I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes.
u mad?
i'm done with GW2 and i've subbed ARR for 3 months, why would i want to go back to GW2?
GW2 has some good points, which FFXIV can consider to apply too
if you think FFXIV is already perfect as it is and complains/feedbacks aren't needed, this game isn't going to last long
I too feel underwhelmed with the seasonal event. Town décor and music is good but it's rather lack luster when it comes to actually things to do.
Here is my wish list of things I want to do and have for seasonal events.
Atmosphere:
City / Outpost should have themed related decoration
Cities should have a musical twist based on the event
Environment should reflect the time of year; fall, winter, spring, summer. Nothing over the top but just a slight change
Event:
Event FATE - event related of course
Event Dungeon - Both lv 15 and Hard Mode
Event Trail - Both lv 15 and Hard Mode
Rewards:
Event themed Minion
Event themed Armor / Outfit
Event themed Chocobo Barding
Event themed Weapon
Event themed Emote
Event themed Items
SE i want my murlock pet now!
Ohh wrong company :(
My only complaint is the music; it's nice and all, but it's too short and very repetitive.
At least they're gonna kill it soon though. I remember playing Granado Espada at Christmas time. They started playing Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer in cities in November - and left it there until the Valentine's Day event kicked in.
