Can we please get a perma-death server?

Max level on a HC server wouldn't mean anything because you can still spam FATEs to 50. Then buy high level FC gear which will sync down and make you OP for Job/AF quests. You also already ruined the experience because you have done the fights on your other character on a normal server. There is also the issue of the other 7 people in your party for Primals or Raids losing their characters through no fault of their own because that one other person D/C, Lag, or just plain sucked.

You could always just delete your character and start over on a normal server if you die.

Solved.

I agree, Perma Death Servers aka Hardcore Mode is a must for gamers who enjoy the thrill of perma death lurking in every corner

They can't sue if they agreed to play under those conditions. And I'm sure the terms of service would be written up to reflect that. But then it would have to be a distinctly separate server from the rest of ARR, which would require it's own user agreement.

having played a few games with perma-death...

oh god! no it wouldn't.... You think DF is bad? Someone's character getting killed because of an honest mistake in a dungeon, I have seen REAL WORLD friendships end over it.

Lol, care to explain? The TOS are a contract, even if you don't read it. If it states that the developer is not responsible for losses because of the perma-death nature of the game, and you click ok, you have no legal recourse. The TOS of any game has been written by the company's lawyers. They are pretty well protected or you would see them being sued all the time.

Too much SAO. I too sometimes think how it would be playing on perma death server, but then i remember those lags, desyncs, freezes from diablo 2, diablo3 and path of exile. Too bad there was no mention of someone dying in SAO because of lag :D

I'm totally for this! I hope they give you your perma-death server so I can transfer over there as a crafter, totally exploit the living hell out of your economy since none of you are going to have any of the dungeon/tome gear or crafter levels since you will all inevitably die and lose your levels and essentially force you guys into buying all of my crafted gear! :D

The game would require massive rebalancing to make this realistic. Simply not going to happen. As it stands Titan would end the server, and if by some miracle a decent number of players made it past that then the coil would delete characters left and right. This game is designed in such a way that death isn't just something that can happen. It's something that will without a doubt happen. It just depends on how close to end game you get. The safest characters would be the ones that never try to go past Titan.

If they fix the internal server lag issues this might be feasible, otherwise whats the point? No one would even make it to end game. Besides, they'd have to redesign all of the content thats intended to kill you the first few runs until you memorize it, not to mention that the mortality rate would be insanely high given the team-reliant nature of the game.

People can threaten to sue, or even attempt to do so, but it would never go through for something like this. No physical injuries done AND it's a video game. An attorney would have to be equally stupid to think it would work. No one successfully sues a video game company for something like lag, and it's a safe bet that such attempts are mocked more than taken seriously.

I played HC on Diablo 2 LoD and I say, NEVER AGAIN. Every damage is a heart attack and smashing potion button.

I hope they never do this. Wasting development time and hardware on such a garbage feature is not a good idea. The wasted hardware alone would be ridiculous...

As someone who can only play Diablo on hardcore mode otherwise it's just not fun, and loves permadeath games in general because they're way more exciting, how would this even be fun?

This would be a great idea if people accepted their death and didn't cry about it.

"wtf, server lag!! restore my character, that death was not my fault"
"SOME GUY KILLED ME!! HE TRAINED MOBS AND I DIED. THIS IS NOT FAIR, RESTORE MY CHARACTER"

I'd like the option of a perma death server. I would keep my main progression character on a non perma death server.
Playing a game thru hardcore perma death mode creates an entirely new experience for the game even if you already know all said content by heart beforehand.
And to add to the scenario, how bout when you die, instead of completely losing your character you are given the option to server transfer.
Server transfer is optional and maybe even have to pay the fee to use it to cover the additional costs of running a specialty server.
Just a thought.

I wish people people weren't such casuals in this game.. OP's idea is great.

Too bad SE only cares about making the casuals happy.

there are other issues which go hand in hand with hardcore servers one is the players will expect hardcore events and ladder races ....etc...

its not a bad idea but its not a great idea either. the amount of resources it needs is the deciding factor if the server gets no more time and effort than any other server its a good idea but the moment the hardcore server gets any special treatment the idea becomes a bad one because then it detracts from the main game and that puts the majority out to cater to the minority.

Do you know how TOXIC the community of a perma death server gonna be? Expecially in a game where it is HUGE on team work.

I would totally like this. Have my main sat on a safe server and have one on Perma death. A nice way to test yourself. If you get sick of it you still have you main safe on a normal server.

You most certainly have never tried Titan.... Anyway, as a trivia, there is a perma-death MMORPG. Wizardry Online. I would suggest you playing that if you want perma death.

I doubt it will happen anyway. So why are you so bothered if someone would like it or not?
Nobody would be forced into playing it, if by some strange twist of fate it happened.
Many games used to be like this. Long before save points.
I don't know if you played any games like that but it was basically see how far you could get with one life.
No deleting my character after every time i get killed on a normal server would not be the same thing. No doubt you will have already read why when you read the whole thread.

Request granted. Here's how you do it.

Play as normal. Upon your first death, whether accidental or misspull, bad healer coverage, etc and you die. You do not accept raise, you do not return. You simply 'x' out of the game window, then delete that character no matter its current gear/level build. Perma Death granted.

For truly hard mode players. Be sure to delete your account, so not only do you have a perma death to that one character, but for all other characters and potential future ones as well.

For those who truly do desire this special type of experience, please, begin as soon as possible. Be sure to return here and tell us how that works out for you.

They care about selling their product to the most customers possible.

I got a better idea, let's turn it into Dreamcast PSO where when you die your money and weapon droped and people can just yank it, i mean since we want to go back to old, crazy game-styles, why not go ahead and throw that in with your perma-death idea.

First of all and perma death server is a terrible idea whhen there is non-perma death server.

Why you ask? Because people can just farm a boss until they can dream about its mechanic in non-perma death server, before actually trying to kill it in a perma death server. The thrill and role-playing element from a perma death server DO NOT come from the fact "death is certain" but rather "you dont know how death will arrive".

Im not sure if Perma Death its the best way to play ffxiv but...........A FREE FOR ALL server i would love to have. You leave the city...you will might die...why ? Because everyone is kos.

Bashers of perma death will never understand the psyche and mindset of perma death players. I used to loathe HC mode in Diablo, but once I picked it up, I never went back because with perma death, even level 1 was *FUN*. But ye, never gonna happen for this game :P

I don't know about a perma-death server but a server where you lose XP when you die (and lose a lvl when you lose too much XP) with a risk of dropping equipped items or items in your inventory could be fun. At the very least it's something with a lot more chance to be made than a perma-death server.

my 45 cents..... HC server would be a damn interesting idea however realistically... u might get what? 1000 ppl on it if u are lucky? maybe 2000? thats less then 100 ppl every hour online if its precise which i knowt isnt. point is, getting the 10000-15000 players our current LOWEST population server has, is out of the question. SE would only do this if some1 came at them with a check in full

The problem is the cost, in both hardware and development. The server (and let's be honest, it'll only be one) would have to be a 'stand alone' without access to the Duty Finder. That means that it would need it's own instance server. The underlying code would have to be significantly altered, it wouldn't be just toggling some master setting to 'Perma-Death: On'. All future patches and expansions would have to be similarly altered. That all costs time and money, for an infinitesimal number of players.

Just form a FC of perma-death players. Yes, yes "It would be pointless blah blah." To be blunt, it would be pointless to everyone except perma-death players anyway. The only ones who would be impressed would be those inclined to play that way. Everyone else would shrug and say, "Uh, congrats? That's uh impressive, or something." So just do it on your own.

You could always make a FC or LS dedicated to hardcore rules.

Then when you die once, you can say "oh, that was lag" and not have to worry about your character being deleted automatically!

Please implement this so I can laugh at the misfortunes of those stupid enough to attempt this.
