Yes, because a level 50 running around in mid iLvl 30s gear while trying to do HM Garuda is perfectly acceptable.

Your post would only make sense if vanity slots existed that allowed us to have even a TINY bit of control over our character's appearance. But since we don't, your post makes no sense what-so-ever.

I wore the green gear from the first three dungeons (forget its set name) till I got battlemages because I was sick of wearing what amounted to my grandmothers old drapes as CNJ despite the drapes having better stats.

I don't think gear looks good on females either. I started as a Miqo'te but all the gear I wore looked like I took a sheet and wrapped it around myself. I eventually made a Lalafell and was content because they're so small its harder to make them look ridiculous, though the armor is more dealt with for me because I prefer cuteness and there is no cuteness in armor in this game.

I don't understand the importance of being able to tell what someone is really wearing unless you realllllly wanted to know in which case there should be an option to view gear. I don't think there ever should be an option to turn off people being able to view your gear either.

Bard AF gear is not that bad, on a female character. But those pants on a male.........yeah that's the whole reason why I switched to a female character lol.

I'm quite fond of the Dragoons Darklight armor......except the Helmet....I just can't....take it. Thankfully the option to make it invisible is there, though I would've been much happier with an eye patch option or something (Though Bard and Monk get one). My character has always had one and I miss it :(

I've simply refused to wear the tank trash can armour for the entire game so far, just because it looks so ridiculous. I'm really not looking forward to getting DL gear.

LOL. I was going to steal this idea on my miqo'te since I've been stuck in subligar for awhile now, but I forgot that I'm currently sporting GC gear and I don't think you can dye that ._.

From reading this whole thread, it seems like most of the gear that's being complained about is stuff that's held over from 1.0 and all the new stuff is being praised.

1.0 gear: all darklight (healer and monk DL are just recolors of existing DL), heavy darksteel, coliseum gear, AF

New gear: battlemage set, foestriker's set, cavalry set, allagan set, DoL/H AF gear

So far, there are only a handful of completely NEW sets of armor in the game. Obviously more will be coming soon, including cool stuff like PvP armor (http://www.mmorpg.com/gamelist.cfm/g...PvP-Armor.html). {Please look forward to it.}

Well, from what I've seen of the coliseum gear It's not that bad looking ;P

I think the heavy darklight for tanks makes sense, I don't really like it, but it makes logical sense.

For PUG/ARC, the whole subligar set would make sense for 'ease of movement', same goes for casting classes.


I feel this game has a higher degree of consistency in its gear than that of some of the other MMOs i've played, consider the following;

The piece of gear that the development team added in 1.23 for 'shits and giggles' was this, ONE gear set whereas in some games like TERA pretty much everything is designed for sex appeal, rather than a logical decision;

We need vanity slots in 2.1, as well as the option to at least toggle accessories on and off like with headgear. It'd be nice for those players wanting to play the rugged type if you could toggle your shirt on and off as well.

One of the main differences being that in Tera, almost every armor type looks different on a per race & gender level. While that "heavy armor" is essentially bikini chainmail for female Castanics, when worn on a Human or male castanic, it is very much heavy armor. So it is quite consistent when looked at an ingame lore perspective.

Some of the armour sets do like a bit meh. :( I was so disappointed when I got to 50, had cool looking AF gear, then immediately replaced it with what looked like lv20 quest rewards from AK. The Dye system is really a missed opportunity and I hope with Vanity slots they reconsider their stance on not being able to dye Green quality or higher armour pieces. Especially when the WHM AK set make you look like you made clothes from your Nan's discarded 1970s sofa, the MNK one looks like a discarded Christmas sweater and the BLM one looks like a burlap sack.

I'd like more stuff like the nature of the Coliseum set, "logic" be damned until I can conjure up and throw fireballs in real life.

I agree with the fact that some gear is kind of gay....... None the less warning this is s moaning thread

As a Scholar I hate that the Darklight Body is a cowl since it stops you from wearing head armor (And I like those little tiara things you can wear from time to time)

In my opinion the earrings on male characters is a bit out of place kinda thing. At least the OP does not have a tail clipping through his armor.

I agree sooo much. There are times that I run around in lower level gear JUST so I can stand the way my character looks.

The worst part is that the helmet is WELDED onto the torsopiece. When you're riding on a chocobo, you're facing straight down and when you draw your sword, you're sort of looking down and away like you're completely drunk.

The plus side is that wearing it during cutscenes is hilarious when they cut to your character for a reaction shot and it's just the helmet staring back at you with absolutely no movement.

Actually the various mid level tank gear sets make the most sense, a lot of practical & protective stuff there. The Darklight tank armor would barely be more practical in real life than the bikinis you showed, and in many ways far less.

Excessively cumbersome, limited head movement, those ridiculous shoulders blocking all side view, not to mention all the ornamental things sticking out that would bump into/get caught on stuff constantly. About the only thing that mess has going for it is it could take a hit: but just try your best to keep your balance when you do take a hit. You get knocked over in something like that you wouldn't be getting back up in time to save yourself (there are stories of real life knights drowning in inch deep water in far less bulky suits).

Now that I think of it I'd take my chances with a swimsuit over the Darklight tank suit in real life.

The realistic sets would be more akin to the Iron, Mythril, or various chain mail templates. Protective yet about as practical as running around in a full suit of metal gets. Makes me wish the Militia(Iron set design) and Dark Steel("Trash can" set design) crafted tank gear models where swapped.

I just wish more sets looked a bit more like the stuff in FF artwork in older games. Some of it is odd, but it was completely unique and sometimes wild/colorful. Bard is about the closest we get for that, aside from the typical WHM and BLM, but even BLM now just looks like one big leather wrap. Also Dragoon... Throw one giant marshmallow at him and he'd be done. -_-

Hopefully some more traditional FF armor/gear will appear as vanity later on.
