And that is why there was no XIV on the 360. Square wanted nothing to do with Microsoft's premium service and still don't because it's a big middle finger being waved in player's faces. Sega had to swallow that pill with PSO on the Xbox and PSU on the 360 because they don't have quite the same clout as Square. There was also Microsoft's demand that XI on the 360 be on it's own servers because of their dislike of Sony's consoles but, again, Square wasn't going to have it. I'm sure Microsoft would have wanted the same over XIV.
So it would seem we will have to wait and see what happens. Until it is in writing an Squares website for now the answer is nobody knows for 100% sure.Quote:
One thing that did stand out was that he gave a fantastic reply when asked about PS Plus requirements for games like Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn & Elder Scrolls Online, to which he said that "You will need it to enjoy online multiplayer. This will also depend on the judgement by the publishers, and there will be some free to play titles that you’ll be able to play without needing a PS Plus subscription, like PlanetSide 2 and DC Universe Online."
It's been stated several times, but Shuhei Yoshida himself has officially stated multiple times that the publishers will decide for games like MMOs that require an additional subscription fee. The only games that will require PS+ are games like Destiny, Street Fighter, Call of Duty, etc... Stuff with regular, non-subscription based online multiplayer.
Free upgrade from PS3, no PS+ will be required. Playstation XIV gamers will be just fine.
Sony said all free to play MMOs on PS4 will not require PS+, but they didn't say anything about paid ones. Nobody knows the answer except for Sony and SE they haven't announced anything yet so just going to have to wait.
I highly doubt PS+ will even scratch the sub fee that XIV has. On PS3 it's incredibly cheap for what you get and much better value for money than even Xbox Live because you get free games every month etc. I'm definitely not concerned either way because if I only wanted a PS4 for XIV, I'd spend the money upgrading my PC now instead. I doubt they'll make it necessary to have another subscription but you never know.
I know I'm sticking with the PS3 version for now. Until the PS4 gets games I actually want I'm not even giving it a first thought.
It's not Sony who decide which MMO is PS+ required, they let the game publishers choose. The MMOs that were announced free are all Sony produces. No other MMO from 3rd pt that require PS+ has been announced yet.
And those MMOs which already had their subscriptions plan (FF14) will have nothing to do with PS+, cause ppl still have to add credit on the game's main websites, not PS store. PSO2 is a clear example.
PS4 will most likely not require PS+ for FFARR... as seen in the description of the PS4.. "certain MMO's will not require PS+ as they already cost subscription fee" ... cant be 100% sure .. but i guess FF would fall under this
