This is a great idea! I'd love to fish/farm fates/relax during boat rides like in XI. And by relax I mean getting murdered by Sea Horror. Seriously though, we have teleports for instant travel. Bring back the boat rides!

They let you fish on the boat ride because it was 15 minutes of timesink otherwise. Next time you take the boat ride just run around your house for 15 minutes to simulate the timesink on your own. Problem solved!

I 100% agree. Please bring back the boat/airship rides. I loved jumping on the ship in both XI(Boat/Airship) and XIV(Boat) and just settling in for a ride. C'mon now Devs, you've recreated this gorgeous world- Now give us a way to really sit back and enjoy it!

A suggestion would be to make it free to travel that way. For people who still wish to instantly travel, just let them pay what they're currently paying and make it like a convenience fee for instant travel.

There were a couple very good posts on this subject in the old Beta forums. My favorite was offering two types of rides: quick and leisurely.

Quick we have but leisurely works as it did in FFXII, you book a private room for an indefinite period of time. Explore the ship, fish off the side, join in a few FATEs, or just hang out as you wait for Duty Finder. When you're ready to leave, go back to your room and you'll arrive back at your destination.

Oh man, my fondest memories of XI were trying to get to the boat docks in time. Many times I'd get there just as the boat was taking off. It really made you feel like you were a part of the world and not just a character playing a game....

Edit: But I do agree it should be an option where there were two different ticket desks. One for instant rides (we could call them fast passes or something) and another desk for the regular boat riders.

Ugh if only.. I hate that all transport options that don't involve chocobo are effectively glorified teleporters.

Yoshida said a long time ago that they might, down the line, consider the implementation of an actual ride if there were something it could contribute beyond just being there, but...

Well anyway I live in hope.

Many times (usually in Jeuno) I would arrive at the doorway looking down at the docks and see the boat. Then it was something like this...

<Linkshell random> Boat again?
<me> Don't talk to me, I'm runnin!

As annoying as it was when I missed the thing, I think that's what made it so...fun! You could get excited about taking down some big nasty in the back end of beyond with your linkshell and also...about catching the boat.
