Bring back the boat ride!

Okay, while I might not be alone in thinking this, I'm not at all certain if there are many people who would care enough to support me in this but...

The boat ride from Limsa to Thanalan was quite a pleasant quirk. I liked nothing more than to be able to hop aboard and watch the world go by. Depending on the time or day and what the weather was like, you could be treated to some spectacular views. It was also a very peaceful fishing spot so...

I would like to see that particular feature brought back.

As it stands now, its like the airships. You step on, then step off at your destination. *yawn*

At one point, they considered adding actual airship/boat rides, but it kinda died off. I'd like to see it personally, with random FATEs happening while en route.

This! I'm sure a lot of my fellow FFXI veterans would appreciate this too. The pirates and NM Kracken where some of the more exciting moments in that particular MMO, hiding below deck hoping it didn't hear us... Nice!

I never tested the boat ride you speak of but there were these boat rides in FFXI too. I think it could work if you made it optional as you could include unique fishing-opportunities and events. In FFXI you could be borded by pirates, ghosts and also this rare NM, an octopus (cant' recall the name anymore). I have fond memories hiding below deck as the terrible fiends wreaked havoc on the deck and ate poor curious newbies haha.

They let you fish on the boat ride because it was 15 minutes of timesink otherwise. Next time you take the boat ride just run around your house for 15 minutes to simulate the timesink on your own. Problem solved!

This is a great idea! I'd love to fish/farm fates/relax during boat rides like in XI. And by relax I mean getting murdered by Sea Horror. Seriously though, we have teleports for instant travel. Bring back the boat rides!

I can see where the boat would really be a huge hindrance to how incredibly fast paced this game is. But I played both FFXI and 1.0 and I did appreciate the ride at times, both the boats and airships. I would support there being rides in this game, but for the people that would hate it, give them a option to skip. I know earlier messages about 2.0 Yoshi-P mentioned some kind of airship content where you fight stuff. So I'm sure we will be seeing something in the future.

Key would be the option to skip. Looking back at FF XI, I did not like those long boat rides. I'd go AFK and come back only to see myself lying face down, ass up and de-lvled because some ghosts spawned. Long trips via boats and airships have really become a thing of the past when you look at modern MMOs now. I wouldn't minding giving the option for players to experience it but definitely add the option to skip.

i would be ok with this only if it were in parallel to the existing travel options, as in you could go on the 15 min boat ride, or you could use the insta-travel. Obviously if they went this route you would need some content on the boat ride such as fishing but not limited to just that, i like the FATE idea.

If you actually put in 15 minute airship or boat rides for travel, well it would take less time to chocobo it from city to city. Guess you could still teleport.

I don't see any problems with having to choose between insta-teleport and slower (but cheaper) boat ride, we already have this with the chocobo porters that are insanely cheap and cost you only a minute or five.
