I play from a laptop. Logging into the forums on my work computer hasn't caused an issue, but logging into the game with my own computer at my girlfriend's place has triggered the block.
No, you'll probably be okay. What SE is looking for is major geographic differences (i.e. you live in Florida, and someone with an IP in China tries to log on to your account). A lot of service providers are doing this kind of thing now, such as Google Mail.
If you have an ISP with a dynamic IP address, you won't get flagged as your connection changes IPs, but logging in from work means you're probably logging in from a different ISP, and SE may notice this.
I went to a convention once tried to play from my hote. I got a security warning and it wouldnt let me log in. It really wasnt a big deal. All I had to do was respond to an email and it unlocked for me. I was happy to see this kind of security.
It was a bit of a drag at first, but easy enough to clear up. I was impressed with how serious square took the security.
I live in a tri-state area and log in from different states, different ISPs all the time and never have that problem.
Guy get the security token, accounts with a token connected to it prevent the trigger. The different IP block was to prevent anyform of hacking which got bad in ffxi. It is hard to report hacking with ffxi, so the measure is prettty good. But the token helps and makes it safe.
With games like Aion and WoW I got my accounts hacked pretty easy, asll because I took a break. With WoW I had canceled my subcription and someone was able to reactivate it and used my account. I found this out when ppl baught the celestial horse mount. My Aion acctount was blocked several times also. And i don't go on iffy sites, open e-mail ( i don't even check my e-mail) Nor do i do any rmt.
Also the token lasts a good while And it saves the hassle of having to change passwords.
