Concern about "Branching Classes"

If you understand that part then why did you just said the same thing that he explain? That the point of the jobs there the skill tree system of FFXIV they just change the role of the job. The problem is you want to level up samurai from 1-50 just like you did in FFXI. The problem is in FFXIV samurai is noting but specialized roles for the classes adding new spells and changing the role just like wow.

In WoW

Shaman can become Elemental,Enhancement,Restoration

In FFXIV

Arcanist can become Summoner,Scholar,????

Shaman jobs are Elemental,Enhancement,Restoration
Arcanist jobs are Summoner,Scholar,????

You learn how to play the job by doing the storyline and unlocking the spells. Today mmo is not about leveling up anymore it's all about endgame. At least they going to keep adding class so for the people that do enjoy level up have something to do lol.

Did you forget that you can't choose between two weps? look at SCH/SMN they both using books just like the class.

Which mean there no way samurai and red mage can be part of the same class. They need to completely a separate wep.

It's like if 6 month from now they release DRK for MRD then Darkknight job would be using a great Axe and that it. Meaning if you want to see dark knight use a Scythes they have to make a class that use Scythes then link that job to that class.

I can see where it is like wow. and I was never to fond of it well just WoW in general. But you can still have a lvl 50 job and not do the story line for that job. granted you will not have the abilities for that class or the AF but you will have a lvl 50 job. So yea I do like the FFXI way. Lol I guess I'm just stuck in my ways ^^

Don't worry i was like that too :) But remember if you don't have the abilities you pretty much useless lol. Seeing how once you become a job it lock you out of some class spells and other spells from other class.

But ya don't worry you get use too it we just have to go with the flow.

Honestly I wish Jobs and Classes were separated from each other in levels themselves. As in Leveling THM to 30, then CNJ to 15 to unlock BLM. But BLM itself starts off at lvl1 and as you progress through the levels you get a return on THM and CNJ skills standard to those levels, at a maximum of wherever they left off. So that in essence, though BLM is a Job that has to have conjurer as a sub class starter, you only get a taste of those skills in the end and BLM is a more focused form of THM, so you get a stronger suite of skills based on THMs background for offensive elemental fury.

It would be a nod back to how XI operated (yes I know this isnt XI, no I am not harking on how I wish XIV was more like XI, etc.) You level WAR to 30 to unlock PLD, but PLD starts at ground zero and you work your way back up, using war as a sub class. Eventually having to return to WAR to level it up further in order for it to remain a viable sub for PLD as it goes past 60. Oh the days of getting in a party with a lvl75 pld and a 30 war..how I don't miss thee.

Ultimately it would solve the issue people are having with the fact that if you level the class to fifty, you have that job to fifty at the same time. Then you go back and play with skills to better understand what you have and how to use them most effectively.

That way, if you did have all your classes and jobs at their max level and then the classes branch out again in some fashion, you would start that new job at a lvl1 level and work your way back up, learning how that job works from the ground up.

Of course what I think doesn't matter because the system is already in place and I really don't see them going back and rewriting the entire system like that. They -could- do it post-50 though. Where everything stops being simultaneous at level 50 and from 51 and up its exactly like that, where every class and job are individualized in their experience gain.

You forgot something just as important. Gladiator uses daggers and swords. Mages use staves and wands. Why is it so hard to believe another class can use two types of swords for branching purposes? Granted, I don't really care. I disagree with most of his job branch choices. Just pointing this out to you since you took the time to debunk his post incorrectly

lol my first thought when SE announced SCH and SMN branching from arcanist (ARN?) was "I will exp arcanist fast in order to have 2 jobs ready at once yeah!!!!!" ... ehr :o

IMHO you are just overthinking :) Gaining exp isn't meant to be the main content of the game, you should just take it easy and wait for the real end game content.

As soon as the live letter ended (which was right after our interview) we begged PR to let us get one follow-up with Yohida - and this was our question (we submitted it via email but no response yet).

I don't see how, if down the road they unlock, let's say PUP, off of, say, Pugilist, as a level 50 MNK/PGL I should automatically be a level 50 PUP. Even if there are a 5 abilities to gain to the PUP job, seems like more experience is needed to really call oneself a max PUP.

My guess is with mostly all MMOs offering some sort of spec option per class, SE didn't want to fall out of the loop. Point allocation would scare away casual players since it seems complicated. Due to Final Fantasy not being limited to a set number of jobs, they can create a ton of them and offer them as specs to classes. I personally love the idea. I'm playing as an Arcanist...need more DPS? I'll switch over to Summoner. Need me to help heal instead? Damn, I haven't leveled Conjurer, but I can switch over to Scholar since I have Arcanist at level 50!

Classes can be used for leveling and for adding new weapon types. Hopefully we'll get one or two classes a year at the very least.

Yeah, it certainly offers flexibility, but you can run into a situation where that level 50 SCH has - at level 50 - never healed before. That seems strange to me.
