This whole post....
I am not sure I could answer this question I have not played tera so I cannot comment on anything. Alot of the stuff look interesting, but as we all know looks can be deceiving when you try them.
The whole Action MMO thing sorta sounds good but I would have to try it. I would be afraid it would lose all the RPG feeling with that kind of system. And that is what a Final Fantasy is at heart.
What I would like to see SE take from Tera is the use of placement and more strategy into the fights. To much mindless zerg in FFXIV currently.
In the end FFXIV needs to be its own thing, can borrow idea but in the end it has to be unique.
HEY GUYS LOLOL TERA SUCKS ITS A WOW CLONE BECAUSE THERES UH.. CLASSES AND STUFF AND THERES SO MANY HACKERS FFXI WAS FREE OF HACKERS AND PERFECT IN EVERY WAY HOW DARE YOU TRY TO DISCUSS ANYTHING JUST STOP OKAY JUST STOP AND ITS KOREAN AND WE ALL KNOW EVERYTHING IN ASIA IS BAD ITS A GOOD THING FINAL FANTASY XIV IS MADE IN AMERICA AND GRIND FREE
Drama is good though!
Well sorry that everyone is so insecure, but it's not my responsibility to molly coddle them.
I think swimming and jumping aren't so removed from FF, as FFX, FFX-2, and FFXIII all had renditions of one or the other. Besides, you have to look at this as an MMO first and a FF second. At some point, one of the final fantasy sets the precedent for the others.
As I said earlier, Final Fantasy X included swimming though most FF games don't. One day, Final Fantasy XIV is going to have to make a similar progressive step to make itself an interesting, immersive world, even if it means breaking tradition. If it breaks tradition, it can always start its own, as did many FF titles before it.
Of course I'm here to stay. I'm sorry that I've never once found a single game from a Korean producer to be anything but a money grab/grind fest. TERA is nothing different than anything I've seen in other MMOs like it. Race based class limitations, non-changeable classes, hyper-sexualized mostly naked women in gear that can only barely (and generously) be considered a string of dental floss. Tons of grinding, tons of instanced dungeons, nothing innovative to speak of in the combat department except that it's a non-targeting MMO. What part of this is supposed to be the game-changing, innovative thing I'm missing exactly?
