Because as we all know, complaining about something once and then never again is the surest way to achieve change.

Oh no, devs actually caring and maintaining the game. Average forum poster..the audacity!!! Why no perfect patches??
Shrug..
Yes but did they fix the one thing that needed fixing , the dreaded levelling roulette ilevel cheese ?
I genuinely don't know why the game becomes unplayable for hours if not days in the first place for a update, I guess because a lot of stuff isn't just client side? I dunno I haven't known live service games that's had the same issue of long downtime maintenances.
I think yes they've been pretty frequent as of late but it's been like that for a while now, I do think at the very least they could give us more awareness in advance at the very least... oh well I kinda have low expectations in general for a lot of things when it comes to FF14.
And no people are allowed to complain about constant maintenances Especially as this game puts you off for hours unlike most other games, what even was so broken that it required 5 hours of downtime lol.
Best guess, their architecture doesn’t allow them to patch the game quickly. I have no idea of the details, but as I understand it the current codebase was put together in a tearing hurry to salvage the train wreck of 1.0. The dev team probably didn’t have time to think their design through carefully, future-proof things (see: stat squish), or plan ahead for things like quick deployment of server-side fixes.
From a software development standpoint, my “final fantasy” about FFXIV is that the weak content and feature deployment of the Dawntrail patches are because they’re siphoning off resources to make a complete revamp of the game, to be deployed after an end-of-1.0-style wipeout of older content. Certainly I get the impression that the codebase is holding them back pretty badly any more.
I don't really care about the maintenance, I'm more annoyed by damage meters being taken down for a whole day. Just to fix... what, one little bug in cosmic exploration? Just save it for next patch.
I stand by the idea that since you need a subscription to play, for every second you miss due to maintenance, ddos/disconnections and the like, that is time and money you cannot recuperate. Sure, there have to be fixes to the game occasionally, but this is compounded by a lot of other issues it has right now. Therefore, it does not respect the time and money you put into it.
More generally, if you're a casual-mid player in general. With how heavily Dawntrail has prioritized the hardcore content, it often feels like there's very little to do combat wise other than hunt (I guess now that WoW is a more attractive target for DDOS right now there's the deep dungeons too).
Every maintenance, most of the S ranks get put on a two day vacation & we've barely seen Kirlirger to the point there's an ongoing Kirlirger vacation meme (because on top of the rarity of Kirlirger conditions, a terribly high percentage of them get swallowed up by going from "capped window" to "sorry, just had maintenance again in the last 50-80hrs").
At least save the hunt timers across maints, SE (unless there's actually some reason they don't want there to be S ranks the first two days of patches, but unless that's actually courtesy to allow raiders to focus on the 8-man hard modes without missing out, I can't think of one).
I've myself wondered if a revamp might be needed eventually (largely due to how tall the cliff is for a sprout before they can do the content their friends have unlocked, unless they boost).
I also don't know if it'd work that great with the current playerbase. Look at the Duty Complete Farm siloing we have when we don't have any FOMO content (Unreals don't really count, because there's always *an* Unreal and AFAIK Faux currency rewards are never removed).
Now imagine if they suddenly announce "oh, by the way, all the current EX trials are going away after this expansion so if you want mounts from any existing ones it's now or never" can you imagine the degree of freeze-out PF would resort to?
But there's not supposed to be any damage meters in Ba Sing Se anyways ...
I've seen people suggest compensation for that, but the reality is that the subscription is too cheap unless it was some kind of catastrophe where the game had to be down for a period of weeks, not hours. It makes sense for something like Comcast where you're paying multiple dollars a day for service, but when a whole day is 50 cents not so much ...
It didn't actually require 5h. They post a generic time slot to cover their arses if something goes wrong. Hotfixes almost never take the full alotted time.
And how does the game become unplayable for hours or even days after a patch? Sounds like someone who can't live without plugins.
If you think ffxiv maint is bad... dont play other mmos, because they are worse. Many of them have weekly maint every week, and several hotfix maints a week.
