I wish they added more jobs to other cities. When a job starts at level 60, 70, 80 then why not just start their quests in those cities
To prevent a repeat of the HW incident, where MSQ blocked the 3 new jobs from new players.
all 3 HW jobs required access to Ishgard in order to unlock - this caused immense backlash because as a selling point of said expansion, telling someone new to the game who joined the game because these jobs were advertised as a selling point they needed to go play something entirely different for a huge amount of MSQ quests is extremely bad. Telling someone they'd need to play through ARR + 3 entire expansion's worth of MSQ, totaling 100+ hours just to unlock reaper, the only job they actually want to play, over in Sharlayan/Radz at Han would be laughable and be liable for them to just leave the game instead of giving their sweet $$$ SE wants.
With just the level requirement, someone can theoretically just buy a job boost, unlock their chosen job of choice and go through the entire MSQ with it. Alternatively if they avoid the job boost route, they can unlock their job of choice far quicker since 'road to x' giving double EXP, on top of MSQ + roulette exp, can level someone to the unlock requirement point easily long before they would have to reach that point in the story.
As a result, all new jobs require an accessible point within the ARR zone spread.
Because players couldn't start as those jobs.
Like, here is what SE probably should have done, during character creation, have only 3 jobs:
- Conjurer (Healer)
- Marauder (Tank)
- Pugilist (Melee DPS)
Just the one job that drops them in the starting city of choice. Then when they get to the adventurer's guild they are asked if there is any other job they are interested in, and the game will give a list of ALL the jobs in the game. The player can then register as whatever job they want. If they select something like Sage, Gunbreaker, Reaper, etc content that is in the current expansion that they don't have, then they can still select the job, but not at the "starting level"
If a player picked any of the jobs that have their guild hall in the starting three cities, they would get one free teleport to the correct guild hall. If they pick something introduced in HW or later, then they are given a "generic" job quest (eg DPS, Tank or Healer) administered by the "Hall of the Novice" until that job storyline is available. So they have to re-visit the hall of the novice every 5 levels until their job storyline is available. Ideally they would just write an entire storyline for every job that starts at level 1.
That would solve a "someone wants to start the game as a level 1 reaper" or "a level 1 gunbreaker" without breaking the MSQ as for why these Garlean jobs are available.
First of all, getting to Ishgard required level 50, and you have to then dip back to 30 to to level them. So someone new to the game has to get to 50, do all of ARR post patch, and then swap back to level 30 and level again for 20 levels. It is especially easy today to also be super over leveled compared to the msq if you do roulettes or play with friends etc.
If these jobs were in accessible areas, you could just pick them up as soon as you hit level 30. The same way you can just pick up red mage at level 50 if you want regardless of msq progress. Say, play thm/smn up to 50 and then immediately swap to the job you want to play without having to dip back.
For players who were already caught up on the msq this is no big deal, they would have had access to Ishgard day 1 of HW. But for new players, or people who like leveling alts, HW jobs were a sticking point.
Events in Gridania- Valentines, Christmas, Halloween, Easter. MOST of the seasonal events send you to Gridania at some point anyhow. MSQ wise you regularly get sent to Gridania... In ARR a large chunk of the story is based out of Gridania, you are sent multiple times per expansion back to gridania for MSQ beats. I'm confused as to why you would claim gridania is ignored.
It isn't. But if it is, it's because it's superior. It spits upon the other starters as we all laugh derisively at their expense.
Hope that helps.
It's because they have that big table.
The others starting cities have a small table or just a desk.
Ishgard has a big table too, but there are too many seats so we can't use that yet.
