I’m ambivalent about current SMN
but I stand by my point, other than some visual aesthetics (that people turn off and change to pet size small) nothing about new SMN matches the design of old summoners because you have zero control over the summon and they do nothing unique, if you replaced “summon ifrit” with “cast hellfire” nothing about the job changes
This isn’t remotely SMN like, not like the old SMN was either but at least the lore of old SMN was actually explained in the context of 14’s world, which is more I can say about current SMN where the rotation actively ignored the lore of the quests that teach you the skills
Like I said, older FF games, summons were just beefier spammable AoE elemental nukes; which at the very least current Summoner feels like. I want it to be improved sure and be more interesting but I'll be that hard ass if I see people trying to pretend that old Summoner kept that "core spirit" because it never did. Its why the made the change because it had an identity crisis and people back then complained.

Essentially FF7, FF8, FF9, probably other FF games as well. They appear, do their special attack and then vanish.
Obviously it's an MMORPG. We have GCDs and we can't just wait and do nothing. So the logical option was to have you be imbued with their attacks as well and cast some of them.Quote:

I see it as you controlling them to a degree. You can cast a lot of the attacks before it diappears as if the attack is coming from them. This is also where egi-glamours come in. One of them can be there for an extended period of time if you glamour carbuncle. The egi glamour system could be better though.
This exactly. When I used to imagine Summoner actually being a Summoner years ago, I imagined that in order to replicate 7, 8 and 9 it would have to happen very quickly and the animation would have to not get in the way for too long.
FFXI they manage to do what FFXIV can't do with summons. IF before this iteration of summoner, your summons had attacks depending on the situation. Your dots were at most 2 bio and miasma and fester to dmg and spread in wall to walls. Summoner before this was actually was very good, sadly people do not want to learn to play and thats fine. but that was way more to summoner than you think you know.
People complained for years about ;
—Cleric Stance = I'm a healer I shouldn't DPS please this give me anxiety -> fixed now healers only have 1 skill.
— Tank stances/ dark arts etc -> I'm a Tank I shouldn't do complex combos or have dots wth anxiety please fix.
—Summoner/Astro = I'm unlucky and too many bottoms please SE FIX now I'm struggling so hard with anxiety now. -> fixed now you have less skills and more traits.
—Relic weapons = omg too grindy that's not fair SE seeing a few people with their glowing weapons is giving me anxiety please fix and be fair. -> Now you have your RGB weapon with no effort.

Keep making lots of posts just like this. The children on these forums will love you. A new hero. I am sure everything you post will change the game. You will also get tons of like currency? I don't know what this thumb up actually designates or do I care. I know the kids here like it though. I guess it is some strange validation method.
