Aaaaaw yeah, Raubahn of the Rocket Punch. Then again, Raubahn has been consistently shown to have gotten more badass since losing the extra paperweight.
Yes, except they never show any of his esteemed "training" so it's hard to believe it. Which is something this game is often rather terrible at, one of my biggest issues really. We constantly get told a character is this or that, but given no compelling scenes to believe it. They just immediately show up and start doing amazing things. G'raha is particularly bad at this, even his morphing into the Crystal Exarch happens largely off-screen. We finally see G'raha again, and he's suddenly an entirely different person. Compare him to... say, Alphinaud? The little brother figure we personally got to see grow into the young Elezen man we know today? Witness his trials and his tribulations? Yeah, that.
This is fair. I'm just so damn weary of them throwing interesting characters into the background to rot. Be it Arenvald, who was seemingly beginning to become prominent to Lady Yugiri Mistwalker etc. Characters being introduced in certain expansions or other content only to be promptly forgotten about not too long after is an awful waste. Square hyperfocuses on the main cast a bit too much for my liking. I'd like to see certain less prominent characters become more relevant in the MSQ so others might see them for what they bring to the table. And Arenvald is a particular interest of mine.
