Alternative, merge the other servers into dynamis
The three JP DCs used to have 11, 11, 10 worlds respectively. Each DC has a set concurrent player limit, and so this meant that each world on the DCs couldn't handle as many concurrent players as they could if the DCs had only 8 worlds each. Because of this, they recently split the three DCs into four, so that each would only have 8 worlds. They wouldn't merge or distribute Dynamis with or among the other NA DCs because that would only cause NA the same problem that they just recently fixed on JP.
While I agree with your overall sentiment. Comparing Dynamis to Crystal is, quite frankly, laughable. Every single server on Crystal had an established amount of players; Balmung being the largest server in the entire game. Neither the queues nor population was even remotely close to what Dynamis has been experiencing. Only high end raiding really suffered because so many of them transferred back to Aether.
To be fair, launching closer to 7.0 wouldn't really change things once the initial expansion hype died down. Unlike Crystal before it where they moved existing servers from Aether and Primal to help establish a population, Dynamis has to start with quite literally nothing.
I suspect the reason they didn't was due to the very poor reception they received at NA fanfest following the announcement of Crystal. They were actually booed, though part of that also came from Blue Mage being a limited job. Nevertheless, it did not go over well. As noted above, a good portion of the raid scene immediately transferred right back to Aether. With DC travel existing nowadays it may soften the blow but I doubt they want to risk the backlash.
Dynamis is fine where it is. No thank you!
Dynamis was created precisely because there's a limit to how many players can log in per datacenter.
That log in queue when you first load up the game? That's not just server specific, that's also datacenter specific. The Datacenter hosts the lobby server which all players are funnelled through before they reach their home world server.
That's why additional datacenters are required.
What they should have done, is moved 2 servers from each of the other datacenters and put them on Dynamis, then thrown 2 brand new servers on each datacenter. Instead of just 8 brand new servers on a dead datacentre.
Don't complain about login queues and lack of housing then if NA insists on moving to megaservers.
What were your FC members expecting Dynamis to be? Why did they transfer to Dynamis in the first place?
Dynamis doesn't need to be merged into the other data centers. That would just make the problem SE is trying to solve, or at least mitigate, by adding the new data center even worse.
Players need to have more realistic expectations about what it means to be on a new data center instead.
It will be funny when your FC members who are transferring back to other worlds start complaining in 7.0 about log in queues that are keeping them from playing the game while those of us who leave our characters on Dynamis are having a good time doing the new content. By then, there will be a lot more characters on Dynamis at level cap to help reduce the level 90 queue times.
