I seriously wasn't even trying. I wasn't one of those nutjobs who went around farming until I looked like an extra from The Walking Dead. It was almost entirely xp from things you would be doing anyway, like upgrading buildings, the expansions, workshop stuff, etc. The only part of the whole process that took any actual time on my part was collecting materials to build stuff. The rest was just waiting on the game.
I didn't grind for island xp at all, and hit rank 10 in about two weeks, and as other people said, it's now maintenance mode, with only an hour or so every two weeks, and I get 10k cowries a week. The only 'grind' was gathering the materials to upgrade the buildings as soon as I could, but that wasn't too bad. I think rank 8 was the worst because I had to upgrade 5 - 6 buildings. But that wasn't even a few hours to do that.
If people are complaining about grinding in IS, then I have to wonder what you think about leveling alt jobs. Talk about doing the same thing over and over again.
I feel like there needed to be way more detail in the farming side of things. Building suitable habitats for the animals you're keeping, feeding them the right type of food, giving us EXP for feeding them the right food so it doesn't feel like effort for no benefit while levelling.
Crafting items should ultimately end up benefitting the farm and the sanctuary, rather than everything feeding into the crafting that is simply exported.
PvP players were also expecting that new content will be added every patch cycle. How well that went...
This is going the way of Chocobo Racing. Btw, does anyone remember the last time they added something to Gold Saucer?
The real mount is the mandragoras, not that stinky bike :)
Basically two options after you've reached max rank and gotten all the items from shop.
1) Don't bother with the island and do something else.
2) Continue on generating cowries (no matter the amount) to stock up in case they add more items in the future.
