While I agree with you to a point.
The way these Addons will impact people specifically, will be, people will demand that you're running XYZ addon, have your UI and alike changed, to be part of their group/static.
These tools and alike, will be used as further ways of belittling underperforming players, and will cause even a larger rift between casuals and hardcore gamers.
While I was guilty of using these, in my WoW days, I have personally seen them used against people as a tool to shun them from any high-end content.
Conviction for what? Banning what are essentially their free advertisement while continuing to ignore the several hundred thousand of players still using every single one of these third party tools, and who will continue to use them. All Yoshida's accomplished is weaponizing a hate mob to mass report anyone and everyone for the slightest ToS violation, something he has also asked people not to do.
There are a number of addons that I agree don’t affect other players. But if it tells what it next in an ultimate fight, or helps somoeone farm materials, then yes, it is something that should be stopped.
But there are addons that help those who are disabled as well. Should they be banned?
A slippery topic to be sure.
It's fairly easy; Does it give you an advantage over other players? If it shows information that is already available to you, then it should be allowed. If it shows you information that isn't available to you normally, then it shouldn't be allowed. Regardless of whether or not it affects other people (which is another thing, because I'd argue that everything that gives YOU an advantage in a multiplayer game affects "other players" in some way).
SE can just stop the Combat log period entirely... so you can only see what move the boss did to kill you... no numbers put on to your harddrive and more, and they should do such, then you got nothing to record from, and if you hack into server, they can leave a 'spotter' of sorts that would record it.
That means you can only for real log the the DPS you do on the dummies outside of any raid/dungeon/group content, with putting on a stop watch from start, to it die from it.
This is all assumption. This likely would not happen in FFXIV cause it's always been a we don't speak about add ons mentality. Also FFXIV is to scripted to require things such a DBM, there is maybe 1 fight per raid tier that has RNG to it. Every other fight you can tell what is going to happen based on a timer.
