The books are your personal loot.
I imagine if everyone got gear instead of having a roll, it would be RNG on whether or not you got a piece still.
8 people are not walking out of savage with gear from a single fight.

Personal loot would drastically speed up gearing. Even if it was just a single item from the current pool, it would mean double the amount of loot per run.
i600 is a 4-month advantage for savage raiding, it always has been.
About the only thing I'd change is add one more twine to the 3rd or add to 4th floor. Unless the designers who do the gear stats get their heads on straight and stop making more roles tainted at needing more tome gear upgrades over savage drop gear.
The amount of jobs the savage i600 head is not best in slot for is rather high and it really shouldn't be that way. They got the savage weapons correct, now get the gear correct.
I never said they should remove the books and I gave my opinion on them too and what I think they should do with them.
It'd still be RNG because the piece you need might not drop but your chances are A LOT higher and even if it doesn't you'll still at least get something for an alt or a temporary piece.
8 people aren't walking out with a piece of gear in the current system and wouldn't necessarily do so in the system I suggested either.
I dunno how many pieces precisely but I think there should still be a limit how many you could '' claim '' hence why I said that you got pass to take the risk on other parts dropping on higher floors.
I don't exactly see the issue with this especially not in FFXIV, gear some alts, do the fights because they're fun.
They could just remove the books altogether with personal loot.
Like I said I dunno how many gear pieces you should get it's not like I am saying you should be able to get full BiS in a week.
Imo when you can do all of the floors and get zero from it and then have people greeding on stuff they don't even need that you might for alts and win.
It's not a fun system.
Even with my suggested system of personal loot depending on how many pieces you get and your RNG you could actually gear up faster especially if you're being fed by your static with the current way it works.
Personal loot isn't guaranteed to gear you up faster but I think it's guaranteed to make the process feel less shitty for most people.
Savage is meant to last eight months. If you're doubling the pace at which people can obtain gear, you're equally doubling the rate at which players stop partaking in it. Most players aren't gearing more than two roles nor are they doing Savage "for fun." They're either trying to parse or dropping off to play other games. Furthermore, this system all but kills the catch up patch as none of that gear serves any purpose since we'd have so much gear in the four months prior.
I don't disagree the loot system needs some fine tuning, but this is going to the extreme side. SE isn't going to implement a change that prompts more players to stop doing content.
Could just slap a weekly quest for savage, something requiring all 4 clears and then lets you choose 1 set of books from any floor or an upgrade mat, that way you can gear up what you need a lil faster or just gear up alts.
Tbh. Savage is useless. Theres no content to use the best gear in the game. What is my ilvl 600 job gnna be used towards in the game to make it feel rewarding? Rinse n repeating savage every week with my memorized mechanics and just running to specific spots in the arena bcus every mechanic is predetermined? I can do the same thing with crafted 580 gear. Yoshi-p has always been against mimicing FFXI. But dude, ffxi was light years better than ffxiv will ever be in terms of content.
