Considering the amount of time and effort it would take to reproduce it in modern FF14's engine, i'd have to say no. I'd rather the resources be spent on new FF14 content.
In a game where players can basically make their own cutscenes, this is not something heavy handed in resources. Stop telling me it’s a different engine. I know that. It’s literally a 1-2 person project to sit down, retrieve the script and footage and work on reimagining a few quests and cutscenes. The assests for all of those old characters already exist in the current game, literally nothing needs to be made anew, it just has to be shaped and organized. But okay, you guys are like totally right that every endeavor needs to always go to new content and I should just shut up and leave the topic alone.
As someone who was there, I would also say no. Besides all of the technical reasons that have already been gone over, the game just won't work today and most of what made 1.0 what it was, cannot be reproduced and that was the people who stayed.
The 1.0 experience wasn't just 1000000 poly flowerpots and fully mo-capped cutscenes. It was hunting NMs for hours for a stupid belt or scale mail. Struggling for weeks against Batraal, Nael, or even the final job armor quests because the designers decided that since there's not much content, the content that does exist should be extremely difficult. Drifting through the sea of retainers in the market wards in order to find what you're looking for. Slumming on the side of the streets of Ul'dah with your whole LS since there was no FC housing (or FCs) and everyone gathered in Ul'dah due to the aetheryte and market wards being next to each other and no PF so shouting in the zone everyone gathered in was the only way to get members. Watching the 2nd moon suddenly turn red and get closer and closer every patch and discussing it with friends. It sounds cheesy, but the people who stayed and kept playing stuck with it despite the game being bad because our communities and a shared experience of the frustrations of the game and carrying on despite it all.
I don't think you understand that the world was completely different. Even if they just decided to ignore all of the rest of the content of 1.0 and just port the quests, none of the zones at all are the same so they would need to basically recreate the whole game in a new engine. The whole story of ARR is that a calamity happened and the new zones have shards of Dalamud and brand new geographical features and ecosystems that did not exist before.
I’ve tinkered with designing my own games. Making cutscenes and implanting dialogue is not complicated. I just watched the 6 hours of cutscenes from 1.0. It is literally the same motions they use in the the current engine. I’m sorry but I’m not going to make excuses for why things can’t be done. This is a just a suggestion and if you guys don’t like it then whatever, but im not going to pretend like this would be some difficult or long drawn out process.
Or atleast bring back 1.0 cutscenes as dreams/nightmares your character can have while sleeping in a bed.
Wait like 3 years for a 2.0 remake.
