IMO I feel repair's are an outdated MMO standard.
I would actually not mind at all if the repair system was removed.
It's not like it keeps crafters active once they've leveled like it was originally intended, that's what materia, GC stuff, and Hamlet Defense does now.
If timer is your issue, a quick work around:All PT members can reset theirs by abandoning too.
- Get a Leve in Coerthas
- Start it
- Abandon it
- Timers reset
Repairing brings in such a insignificant amount of EXP that it is hardly worth even including. I think in 10 minutes of crafting I've made all the EXP I ever got off repairing twice over. It does play hell with the Mage jobs since you cannot repair yours or other's gear because of long cool downs on important skills.
I'd be happy if they nix the entire concept. It is annoying to deal with and makes selling and trading gear a hassle for no other reason then to be a hassle. This of course goes in hand with having alternate penalties for Death, since that is pretty much the only downside to wiping in this game
Personally I was a fan of the EXP loss on death, but that would hardly even matter any longer since you gain back EXP at such an alarming rate at 50 that the penalty would have to be incredibly steep to even matter. Some kind of detrimental negative effect on the back end along with temporary weakness....

2 per death sounds about fair.
I never knew this... I'm still working my way to 45 (/blush).
Well maybe SE should consider revamping the system so we can choose a subclass and/or repair w/o equipping the tool we already have in our inventory. Depending on our level craft, equipping the tool could work for just crafting and only crafting, leave an exception to repairs.
Right now, the only 'downside' to dying is getting damaged gear. Take that away and there is almost no noticeable effect of dying. So they may choose to bring something else in? (level loss, xp loss, much longer incapacitated time, etc).
Unless one of those is preferred, staying with damaged gear will be the option. That being said a mechanic for doing repairs should be introduced that makes it simple and non-annoying to do. As has been suggested, a simple 'target', 'repair all', regardless of your present class, should be allowed, provided you have the right skill.
pretty simple fix make spells/abilities not reset till you actually use them, not like you can change classes in combat
This! I was waiting for someone to mention this while reading the posts. For now this is a great way to get around the cooldown resets, the second you start a leve ALL of you cooldowns and those of your party members (within range, I think).
Overall I think this will be changed in the future. Either by allowing repair as long as you have the required class leveled, or not resetting the cooldowns when switching from DoM/DoW to DoH.
