Yes, I have a quote from a brilliant man in my signature. Whom was also an economist and an expert on monetary theory. Perhaps you should listen to someone whom understands how bad government policy results in supply shortages, and makes it increasingly difficult for companies like Square Enix to acquire the products (hardware) they need to add servers and alleviate congestion.

Square Enix specifically cited these supply shortages caused by government policy as to why they're having problems.

I haven't had one problem with New world or my friend that plays it to. I don't have any lag or connection problems on it.

Amazon owns 40% of all cloud servers in the United States. They aren't as hindered by the supply shortages as Square Enix.

Ugh, so many armchair devs in this thread.

AWS is a cloud hosting solution... but you know what AWS is hosted on? Actual physical servers. Its still possible to run out of hardware if you need to spin up too many instances. It also tends to run like absolute doo doo. (New World and Star Citizen are both AWS)

The chip shortage is due to a combination of factors, not just government intervention. Private companies almost stopping production during the early parts of the pandemic, but not being able to scale back up quick enough to meet demand, and subsequently, suppliers doing the same, is the foremost reason.

So when people say "why doesn't Square just buy more servers 4head", Square is competing with pretty much everything under the sun that needs server hardware, and even server hardware is competing with other industries, like automotive manufacturing, because guess what, modern cars have a lot of computerized stuff in them. This is across most industries.

So Square Enix, the $4 Billion company, is competing against say, Tencent who is a $458 Billion company. If one server stack becomes available, who do you think its gonna get it at highest bid?

Ohhhh buddy you should've been there for BC at launch back in the day. You didn't get ANY free time and I'd have to wake up at 4 AM to play and it was still a mess.

I was there I remember well

Which is why I am not throwing a fit about all this. I play for half and hour 45 minutes in early morning before work and then I will put in big hours on the weekend when I can log in early morning and stay playing for hours.
