The ARR Relic questline was all fun and games... until those stupid BOOKS...

It wouldn't be so bad if each book wasn't so spread out. Dungeons, monsters, fates in every corner of eorzea. Each book. What really sucked is that one fate that refused to pop and you were stuck waiting. No one likes having to just sit there and wait.

I think a way to improve them would have been to allow all the books at once or simply have a few Monster books with nothing but monsters in them, Dungeon books, Fate Books etc.

It would be nice if the books had more options in them, so you didn't have to get "lucky" and get the exact right fate that might be once per hour, or might be "only if you do this chain of 5" or might be "can't happen if THIS fate is active, and will only happen in a specific window" ...

That might soothe the burn just enough that I wouldn't mind doing all 9 just as much.

I thought I'd say something in here about fates, and aiming for one specific fate, it was VERY much an ARR thing. The ARR hunts require you to kill monsters that only show up in fates. The books require specific fates to show up as well. This can take hours to get the fates. This is somehow less fun then grinding for atma.

If we get any change whatsoever, I'd really really like it to just auto-hand us the next book after completing one (like flipping a page or something). Even if it meant having to dump more poetics in unlocking the book.


As it stands now I'm just very very slowly completing them when I feel like tackling it.

This is what I'm doing with my alt. I'm doing both the SMN and SCH relic weapons and thought to take it easy on the SCH one since I smashed through all the SMN books like a mad man literally hopped up on energy drinks.

In between the relic steps for the books, I tend to go and do Triple Triad card collecting, gathering and crafting within the general area when waiting for a specific fate to drop. I also read one of my manga/light novels if I don't feel like doing any of that while waiting.

Just best overall to take your time and enjoy the little things as you go. But I heavily agree with that it would be nice be able to take ALL the relic books at once instead of one at a time. And to add to that, also allow us to do them all at once, too.

I completed my Zeta when it was still relevent and that was way before the nerfs. I was farming the Atmas when they had a 1% drop rate. These are honestly easier now though I imagine the worst of it is is waiting on the Fates to pop, but they even nerfed the timers for the book fates so that they pop more often instead of waiting 4-5 hours for the one Fate you need to spawn in a specific area.

But if this disheartens you, I'm sorry, the other grinds are way worse... Especially Eureka in Stormblood and Bozja is just a copy paste of that with some differences. These are always a grind since they're usually considered as the casual weapons rather than the ones that you get from Savage raiding.

It's not the worst step, but I guess doing 9 books is still a chore.
Better to just do 1 or 2 books per day in between doing other things instead of immediately grind for all 9.

I've also been an advocate of perhaps further reducing the number of books to do. It really is the major step that I feel I stall out on. It didn't feel too bad when I just had base game and was capped at 50, so was basically all stuff I was doing anyway.

No, as in the book gives you, say 25% more choices, and requires that 25% less be completed. If you had 4 task categories to complete before, you'd have to do only 3 now, but you'd have 5 choices. Or each sub-task would award a certain number of points, and you'd need only some 60% of the points possible.

They improved it in later expansions but ARR FATEs are just bs wrapped in more bs wrapped in more bs

I grit my teeth anytime I have something that requires a specific ARR FATE. They improved things slightly spawning wise but they are still just a massive pain in the behind.

Honestly my issue with the Books is simply how disorganized it is, coupled with have to do EACH one separately.

Combining them into a single Book, and then grouping your requirements by zone? What would be freaking FANTASTIC!!!

I am all about grinding for some sweet cosmetics. But it's the "bouncing all over the place" for each book, and then repeating it, that's just way too gnarly for me.

I'm also curious whether the process speeds up much for ADDITIONAL Relics? Because I'd always sort of thought that EVENTUALLY I would want to pursue them on all jobs (it's a bit too late in Shadowbringers, but I'd like to level everything up in Endwalker). But I'd previously figured "well if you get ONE Relic, additional ones are probably only like 25-50% of the work, right?". Which... doesn't SOUND like that case. Which again, would just be a slight bummer, just as a completionist.
