Tell that to the many many people who have been hospitalised. Also, unlike wildfires, tsunamis, and other events, that tend to affect specific regions, this pandemic is affecting all of us. Also, for the record, this post doesn't affect me in the slightest, I still have to work, I am not sick, and I'm not going to be in a situation where I lose my house. This is for people who are.

If you live in the US, or any country that isnt Italy or China, you're still more likely to be killed by inner city gang violence as an accidental bystander than you are at risk of mortality from any known coronavirus, to put the panic in perspective.

Its the equivalent of "I know people who smoke, please suspend timers", only that will kill more people over any time period.

It's not the risk of death that is going to effect most people, it's losing their jobs and their income.
Even in cases where the state is supplementing them, it's not going to be enough.
Here in the UK the government are covering 80% of someones income, but that 80% is only going to cover essentials, rent mortgage and bills, most peoples expendable income is less than 10% of their wage.
Then there's the self employed who will get even less.

It costs SE nothing to suspend demolition.

And we all hope that the situation in other countries won't end up like in Italy or China, right? That's exactly the reason why the governments have to take action now, why they are closing schools and businesses. To get the virus to stop spreading. They don't do it for fun or to get the people to panic without any reason. They do it to keep the worst from happening. This results in the losses of income and jobs...but it has to be done to safe lives.

I really don't get why some people still can't understand that and try to downplay the situation...

I'm going to sound freaking mean, but honestly, if you have to worry about income a game needs to be your least priority at this point. A game isn't a necessity like rent, electricity, water, food. You should definitely sit down after this and plan a bit better for an emergency fund because you should be able to have an emergency fund for a minimum of 3 months flat that takes care of your necessities. If you think gaming is a necessity then budget and include the cost in your emergency fund going forward.

If it gets to the point where the servers have to go down for extended periods of time due to COVID 19, then I am pretty sure they will let us know.

Again, I'm sure people whose homes were destroyed by fires, earthquakes and hurricanes had far more important things to worry about too.
They still suspended housing demolition.

And it's specifically because gaming won't be their top priority, that they shouldn't be penalised for not being able to subscribe.

It doesn't hurt to ask.

Who said a game is a necessary thing? People are just calling for demolition to pause because there is a global issue right now taking people away from their gaming machines or depriving them of their income. SE have done this in the past with natural disasters which have also deprived people of access to gaming machines or their income. SE are the ones who have set this expectation based on their actions in the past. It shouldn't be surprising that threads like this exist.

Not everyone gets paid enough to make this possible. Stop grading how responsible you think others are based on just your personal life circumstances. In some places rent is so high it makes it near impossible to make savings. And before you say "just move!" it's quite hard to when you can't even save much in the first place. Never mind how now is the worst time to do something like this.

I don't think mean is the right word. Bringing up someone's life priorities is a red herring used to divert from the actual topic at hand, which is the suspension of the housing demolition during a crisis.

Yeah, I never mentioned priorities. You are right though, games should be the least of one's concerns in that respect. Which is why, in my opinion, halting the demolition timers would be a nice gesture.
