Actually FFXI does have a chemist healer! He’s a trust but he is a chemist and all he does it heal, but he is there.
Thinking that because the name is Chemist means you have to use consumables that are crafted doesn’t really mean much these days in mmos, it’s not like Bard is buying arrows to shoot!
The FFXI Chemist’s abilities are just named after items. Mega Potion is a heal, etc. So if economy is the only reason a class couldn’t work, you are in luck! :D

Monberaux is a Trust in FFXI? That's news to me! (Goddess I've been out of that game too long! :p). I do remember though in Campaign battles in FFXI each force would have combat medics among their fighters, they'd often have names like "woundpatcher" but were mechanically WHMs despite looking like chemists, but it seems in this case as you said he really does use Chemist style abilities making him one in all but name.
I guess then, as long as the actual Chemist name is not used and a hypothetical chemist class here in FFXIV is given some other fitting name (like 'apothocerian') as the name chemist is too close to the pre-existing Disciple of the Hand class Alchemist (ALC), it could potentially fit in hindsight. Whether SE ever would though is another thing.
To be fair I haven't played in years and they just implemented him in October 2019! Not many people know about him.
Ever since 5.25 we have had Bajsaljen introduced as a Garlean battle medic at the head of the Bozjan Resistance. Could be a close yet different enough take on the class!
I think it was March of this year they implemented the guy:

Some of the stuff does give me ideals that can be combined with some kind of firearm. Like for example, the Life Water is basically a Potion when put through the firearm and fired into the air, the pressure would turn it into an aerosol that covers the players to give them a Regen. It could also give some buffs that were taken out of ASTs cards, like enhanced MP regen, boosted Weaponskill speed, damage reduction, increased Crit Rate. I mean, it'd piss off the AST players given what they've lost but, the idea is there.
Oh how the tables would have been turned if that ended up being the case with buffs, with the the rumor that Ast got the re-purposed "mix" ability in HW when Chemist was pushed aside for Astrologian.
That playstyle also would how I would expect a battle medic to play if we were to get it.
Thought I'd come back to this. Made a few tweaks and added a couple new utility skills to buff up the number, as I've also added a skill progression section up to level 90.
One final tweak before I write this off, seeing as we're only a few months away from finding out the actual 6.0 jobs.
I really hope if they have guns like other incarnations, they do have an auto attack, but instead it's used like the ability "healer" in FF9, and heals a party member, instead of an enemy (since understandably an auto attack would be hard to balance on a healer) even though itd basically heal like a Selena clone
Since the NPC specifically named the job "Apothecary," it would be neat if they took inspiration from Octopath Traveler and gave APO an Axe and ice magic.
