Looks at fates you can solo all but 30 min fate with adjustments made. I am an 80 fish. I haven't gotten around to doing this content, but I'm not worried. -

I'm kinda sure that the spectral pop rate scales with the number of people on the boat. When I'm alone or with 1 or 2 people it almost always pops when one spectral fish gets caught, sometimes it requires 2 catches. While when being on a full ship I can have 5 or 6 catches across my party, without anything happening
that said: having people leave the ship probably doesnt hurt you, because the spectral pop rate per catch might just increase -
