All it grants you is access to the Novice Network and Mentor Roulette. You can 'mentor' without actually being a mentor.
Lol, really? Someone get salt over just few comm? Get like dozen comms short from 3000 archivement in 3 years of just play a game, and i am the most anti social team member in pug pt
I personally don't think requiring commendations makes for a very good system, but even despite that, OP still isn't making a very good case for themselves.
This is painful?
I've never 'actively tried' to be a mentor... not like 'I'm going to put this shiny crown on and teach people good' kind of thing. Because I don't think I'm any better. Mostly because, esp after looking at The Balance, I know I'm NOT... But I have spent my years playing, since pre-ARR and since, trying to do right. I level 'all the things' because this game is a stress-relief for me and always has been. I work tech and lawd, the hours... >_< So the game is how I 'escape' and I enjoy my time. I live running random dungeons and enjoy it. So I know'em. And I've never minded helping people along the way, throwing out tips and being friendly. As much as is welcome, at least.
I have 6062 comms.
It doesn't take that much to earn the comms if you just play the game in a friendly, calm and kind manner. Put in the time. Do what they want you to do in order to BE a mentor. And ya know... if you can't or don't or won't? Maybe you shouldn't have the silly little crown anyway.
This is not true in all cases. Although I have leveled tanks and healers I spend the vast majority of my time on dps and have over 3k comms. If you are not willing to help people out you don't need or deserve mentor status. If your friends have been playing for years and have 500 they are not making a positive impression on people.
I've never been a mentor but I love to help new people. So I use my FC and my linkshell to help new people. There's absolutely no need for a crown to be helpful. I bought the game when it first came out, couldn't play because my computer wasn't nearly good enough. Have been playing since ARR beta, minus a year off for rl issues. No idea how many comms I have but I don't think it's many because I'm not a fan of dungeons. Oddly enough, I still help people.
Agreed. Remove it entirely is the best solution, rather than bandaid fixes like comm requirements.
You know it's a bad system when I can still become a mentor right now if I wanted to. I never mentor anybody. In fact I was starting arguments in the new raid with people who were wasting time explaining fights.
