Most settings are standard with 4xMSAA, no ambient occlusion or anything of that sort except physics on.

My bro has a 2.4 processor and lower specs overall but runs a GTX 460 and his game handles at a better performance than mine.

Your first post didn't say anything about other pc specs. Since my pc specs aren't up to par I do believe that mentioning them would save you some money if you fell into my category. We can't just assume that your stuff is up to snuff unless you tell us. Anyway, you've got examples from me and another user. Me with subpar specs and one with par-or-above specs. :)

It was part of the line that included a recommended router, mouse, keyboard etc.

It includes a 3.33GHz i7 Quad core - hyper-threaded processor, 12Gb RAM, a GTX480 (Nvidias top of the line at the time) and had an 80Gb SSD. Kotaku claims it retailed around $4000.

if your on a budget just get the GTX 460.

card vs card the 460 will be 15-20% better then the 550ti and is only $15-30 more.

I have GTX 460 with old Intel Q6600 getting 50fps in middle of Ul'Dah.

I play with this exact card and I play with max settings with an occasional rubber band but other than that, best bargain out there and I def recommend that card.

My ati card fried the other week and I replaced it with the gtx550 Ti. Worst mistake I ever made. I'm getting terrible lag and character load times, up to a minute for players to load in uldah. Never had any problems before and the only thing to have changed in my system is the gpu. I'm going back to ati, ordered a 6870.

I actually did this exact update! 9800 to a EVGA gtx550. To be honest, the loading time isnt stellar, but I was used to loading times like this before with the 9800. You DO get a decent speed increase, and you can actually turn things on like shadows (No ambient Occlusion). Increase resolution as well!

Just replaced the gtx 550Ti I had stupidly put into my computer with an ATI 6870. Game runs very nicely now. I wouldnt recommend that nvidia piece of crap to my worst enemy.

For what it is worth OP you might want to upgrade your CPU as well if possible. I was running an Athlon X2 @3.0GHz with 4GB RAM and an nVidia GTX 470. The game was very playable (20-30 FPS most of the time) but I later upgraded to a Core i7 @3.3GHz and 6GB RAM. Using the exact same video card I'm getting anywhere from 45-60FPS depending on where I am and how many people are around. Seemed like my old CPU was a big bottleneck and holding the video card back (not just on this game, but others as well).

Settings I use are 4xMSAA, high settings for most everything, DoF and Hardware Mouse ON, AO off. Resolution is at 1920x1200 in windowed mode. Running on Windows 7 Home Premium x64.

I just got my GTX 560, $152 after rebate.
It can run at max texture and background, outside during raining is around 20-24 fps.
when I tune to texture 9 background 4, it's all 40-60 fps everywhere.

to future card buyers:
you can use GPU benchmark to see which card is better. Since we all give you some "GENERAL" idea what's our card works, then you can get some general idea from there.

ATI 4870: 1738
I own a ATI 4870 before, I can run with standard no problem, but I play at texture 7 background 3 for safety. Then, I'll expect GTX 550TI can run with standard no problem.

I got the card refurbished from Newegg when it was on sale. For me it was a step up from an ASUS CuCore Radeon 5770 video card I had. Not much of a difference but it was. I haven't bothered trying to compare the frame rates yet however. But here's the settings I use:

Display Mode -1920 x 1080 (Windowed)
Multisampling - 8x CSAA (8xQ MSAA worked fine too, I just lowered it.)
General Drawing Quality - 8 (Standard)
Background Drawing Quality - 3 (Standard)
Shadow Detail - Highest
Ambient Occlusion - Off
Depth of Field - Off
Disable Cutscene Effects - Off
Enable Hardware Mouse Cursor - On
Texture Quality - High
Texture Filtering - Highest

System:

Windows 7 Home Premium SP1
AMD Phenom II 955 Quad Core @ 3.2GHz
8GB DDR3 1333 Mushkin Dual Channel (2x4GB sticks)

nVIDIA GeForce GTX 550 Ti
Rosewill 500W Power Supply (Generic brand that came with the case.)

On average I'm seeing:

Cities: 30's (Can vary, most often around 30-31ish. Rare moments it'll drop into a 20 range but seldom. Most usually when loading a very large amount of people.)
Fields: 35-40's (Again varies. In heavily populated areas like camps it'll drop a bit just under 40, otherwise averages that if not higher. Wide open areas like Thanalan will see close to 50 or more.)
Strongholds: 30's (Natalan tends to take the biggest hit.)

Overall if on a budget and just needing a new card it's not a bad choice, but otherwise spend a bit more I guess and get something higher end.
