Since they will become instance, how about NOT add a time limit and place a player cap so that only X amount of players can be in the dungeon at once. This can be a middle ground for people in favor and opposed to the idea. For example, the player cap in a dungeon can be set to 20; a party of 6 can enter, another party of 8 can enter afterward, and maybe 6 solo adventurers who want to go into the cave can also go in and be in the same cave all at once with the other two parties. This is just an example, of course.
I like the open world dungeons because I can explore them and take my time doing things like farming, grinding, etc. The instance dungeons are cool and all, but I hate that the are on a time limit.....I just never like being timed in games so maybe it's just me, lol. I know SE are taking ideas players like the most and implementing them into XIV, but I really feel that rather than take the idea that most players are leaning towards, SE should try to come up with a way to please the smaller fanbase, too and throw in things they would appreciate - like open world dungeons. A lot of people complained of the changes since 1.18, but many have grown to accept the changes and actually enjoy them in the long run.
Here is a crazy idea:
If SE are inclined to get rid of open world dungeons due to rare treasures/drops and add and the addition of epic boss fights then would it be possible to talk to an NPC in front of the open world dungeons and enter the instance version of the dungeon? Open world version can have a few different paths, some rooms closed off, toned down enemies, etc.
